Measure your source's voltage output ...
n_maher replied to dsavitsk's topic in Home Source Components
I'd like to request that anyone doing these measurements take them both with a 60Hz and 1kHz test tone. Here's an easy source for tones - Free Test Tones Download -- Online Ear Training for Musicians and Sound Engineers - I took a look at the ones that Doug referenced and for whatever reason using a compressed file format seems somehow wrong to me. Feel free to point out why I'm an idiot. -
It has a dock connector right? Stands to reason it might "reasonably" be able to be coupled to something like the Wadia thingy to get digital output. I still wouldn't try to use it in place of what I use my Macbook for despite what Grawk says.

Couple of weeks, I'm a sooner is better type of guy. I appreciate the sentiments too guys.

The cartilage stuff doesn't bug me in the least, that's easy to deal with and would be a relative blip on the radar. The other stuff, well, that would suck ass.

Met with the ortho doc and got decidedly mixed news about the knee. Point #1: meniscus definitely torn, surgery the only real option so I scheduled it. It's a walk-in proceedure, out the same day, crutches only as needed. Kick in the nuts: MRI results regarding my previously repaired ACL were mixed, as in they can't tell if it's still intact. Doc's opinion was that it wasn't recent damage if it had happened and that it's always problematic trying to look at structure that has already been repaired. So they'll go in at the same time I have the cartilage work done and take lots of pretty pictures that hopefully show my fake ACL is still there. If not, well, I'm trying not to go there mentally at this point. I'm 15 years removed from the last ACL repair but I still remember how un-fun it was and I was like fit and stuff back then. The joint doesn't exhibit any signs of instability but it didn't the first time around either so here's to hoping.

And yet your original point still stands, it's a big watch.

I was always pretty impressed with them but I don't trust my ears as much more than hum detectors.

I'd say at least a grand, plan on more, if it comes in less consider yourself very lucky. I know I have more than that in mine and had head starts that no one else could count on.

Gene says go, I go.

Indeed, she rocks.

No snow, it was 55 and sunny today and felt way more like May than March.

My wife took me out to brunch for my birthday at the Wentworth Hotel. The meal consisted of good coffee, a few mimosas, a danish, yogurt with fruit and granola, an omelet (ham, peppers and cheese), some bacon, some sausage, a croissant, a waffle, stuffed french toast, and I finished with Key Lime pie. I am a fat bastard, but a happy fat bastard.

Oh, I think we can still work on that but I'm sincerely hoping (for your sanity's sake) that the Ayre makes the flight with you. I just wasn't going to hold you to it given how persuasive the 5 guys burger was. But of course what the wife doesn't know will, well, probably get me shot. Let it be known that the 5 guys Bacon Cheese Burger is fracken amazing. I skipped dinner last night as a direct result of it. Do not, I repeat, do not look at their "nutritional facts" sheet. The idea that they'd put the word nutrition anywhere near that information is laughable. But it was so good I just don't care.
-
Just a little joke with the tall man. I think you'd have to pry the Ayre from his cold, dead fingers and I don't blame him for feeling that way.

You want the MBP for sure and your secondary use case will dictate the other half of the deal.

Looks nicer than the Auld Sod.

Clearly this thread demands MOAR PICS! My meager meet rig (Hertsens + BHse) Al's jfet amp, which I unfortunately forgot to listen to fed by drp's opus CD player Pico Slim - actually what I spent the most time listening to Nums eXStata And Stacker Todd's new stat rig Young's 307A, which once sounding right sounded so goddamn right Fang from Head-Direct made an appearance One of these days I'll finally get to check one of these out... Meant to try these again as well to see how they compared to the ones I heard in NYC, ran out of time. The WES (more on this later) Stretch's dynamic rig - Nugget Audio's home for wayward sources is trying to negotiate adoption of this... Emooze's SS eXStata, I didn't get to hear this either as the line voltage was so low in the room it wouldn't run for a while (107VAC, wtf?!!?!) Ian's Millett Rig - which still after all this time sounds simply great Ari's Silver Ghost and Luxman - I got to check out the Luxman briefly and understand why others rave about it. As previously mentioned this was a great meet. It was superb that Al and Johnny #'s were able to make it and 5 guys for lunch rocked. I'll post a few detailed impression later most of which will contain precious little useful information to anyone around here.

Nice, Todd! When are you moving in?

Happy Birthday!

I cannot believe I didn't think to take a picture of this place - it was called The Auld Sod and was perhaps one of the more depressing bars I've ever been in. I'm pretty sure the whisky I ordered was a 12yr but had been sitting for at least 6 so really it was an 18. Too bad it tasted like a 2yr old something poopy. I think Stretch threw back his beer and opted for something in a bottle, the taps were not too be trusted.

You did not have Mr. DIYer birthday cake, your meet cannot have been better. Then again, you had Gene so maybe I need to revise that...

News flash that no one really needed, the WES is effing nice.

I've spent almost the last hour with slim and the HF-2s and I am not left wanting for bass. I'd say it's got great impact and extensin with these cans. More later.

Initially I'm guessing they'll be apple-direct only since rumors are flying about that there will only be about 1/4 of the # available as orinigally predicted (like 300k vs. 1mil).
