Canjam 2010.
You sure you want to go through the hassle of driving? I'm sure it'll be a fun road trip but really, it won't save much cash. I'm currently looking at ~$250 round trip all in for flights and I'd rather chill and watch a movie for an hour and a half but that's just me. My current plan, pending spousal approval, is to fly out early/mid-day Friday and back as late as I can Sunday.

We will have to find some appropriately wicked things to make with it. The more I search around the more cool things I find to try...

Haj, if it was storm damage check with your home owner's insurance. It may be covered and even if the physical damage seems minor make them check for mold/mildew issues.

I think a pair of custom aluminum Grado cups may be in order to celebrate.

Wooden bar stool. My worktable is from the 50's too, old drafting table that I saved from the dumpster back when I was in college. But sadly another drill press is not in my future and I already made one big tool purchase today.

I want it so badly, for no reason other than I love old, badass tools like that.

If you're in Maine can I come see your rocket? That didn't sound too good, did it? P.s. Maine may be underwater.

I've found a local machinist within 10min. of my house that has both a vertical mill and CNC router so really my thinking is that a manual machine would be enough and that if I wanted anything that really needed CNC I'd just farm it out. Conversions, even the easy ones, are really expensive. I've also got a line on a full-sized, CNC equipped knee mill that I'm going to try and check out. The pisser with the little TAIG mill pictured above is that it's not really good for manual work anymore and I don't want to be tied to the computer for every part.

Probably going to go look at this little guy in the next week or so. Can't decide if a very well kitted CNC benchtop unit would be better than a much larger, manual mill. Honestly I'm leaning more towards the manual side of things since I want to be the one cutting the holes.

If I buy a mill I'll post some pics. Thinking about setting up a small machine shop in the garage. It would bring hole cutting technology to a whole new level.

DIY cable gallery
4x24 is roughly equivalent to 18ga so you should be ok. I was concerned it was more like 28, which would have made the bundle just a single 22awg conductor which might have been scary. There are secondary affects to consider here that I can't help with, the cumulative capacitance and resistance presented by a multi-strand cable like that could be problematic for some amps.
