  1. Ok, so it sounds like this is an issue different from what I experienced. Since they are hissing even without a source attached that pretty much just leaves the speakers themselves or environmental interference. If it's at all possible I'd try setting them up in a different location, if you're curious. I also had to use an isolated power supply in my setup to avoid hum, but that doesn't seem to be the pervasive issue for you right now. I'm hopeful that Laine will take care of you, given the amount of business that's been thrown his way lately by this site.
  2. Shelly, how high do you have the internal amp set? I run mine way down, like probably around 30 to 50% of max. If you're running them at max I wouldn't be at all surprised if you have noise nearfield. If I remember right there is a detent at 50% that will allow you to easily match the volume between the two at that level, you might try that if you're currently running them wide open.
  3. Thanks Dinny (and others). I'm avoiding the heavy meds so far, Advil seems to be doing the trick just fine.
  4. I have one, shoot me a PM if you want it.
  5. Oy! Happy Birthday, Doug!

    Deals

When I got my cases I just left them open for a few weeks before storing anything in them, that seemed to be enough time.
  7. Not that you wouldn't think of this Kevin but are you guys able to get some additional power to the rig rooms in Chicago? There were some issues with this in LA in the high-end room in particular and with you drawing a steady 1.25A+ and tossing out that much heat you might need your own room for thermal and power reasons.
  8. Had surgery today to remove a small piece of torn meniscus. All went well (according to the Doc) and my ACL was found to still be intact so no further surgery will be required. I feel like I've been roofied but otherwise pretty decent and recovery is supposed to be pretty quick. I see a lot more biking and less running in my future.
  9. I guess it'll be interesting to see over the next few years if they think that the two resolutions that they've chosen are still adequate. I still find it odd that they decided not to support 720p with the screen resolution on the Ipad. I have a feeling that pixel doubling is not going to matter much, every app developer is going to do ipad specific versions of their apps. I imagine the fear was that developers wouldn't support the pad initially so Apple wanted to be able to make claims about the # of apps available, turns out they didn't have to worry about that.
  10. Nervous, no, but that's because I'm not an early adopter. As much as Mr. Jobs wants me to believe that the web looks fantastic on an 8" screen, I often find myself wanting a bit more space on a 13" screen and viewing the web on my do-nothing-well netbook can be downright frustrating. Don't get me wrong the 13" macbook is just about the perfect laptop-sized laptop and the netbook was absolutely what vacation called for but for day to day usage color me very skeptical. The idea of cutting that viewable space down as much as an Ipad will is something that I'll have to see in person before believing. I also think that in this "quicker, better, faster" world it's likely that something like this will at least grow a little be in later generations. It's already not pocked sized so another inch or two on the diagonal doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
  11. I picked up an adapter so that i can run the Nova chuck on the new mini lathe.
  12. Started yesterday, will continue today - assembling the Taig Micro Lathe.
  13. Nice! I should be picking up something similar in the next week or so once I settle in on what exactly I need. I might go with a smaller, bench sized one since I'll primarily be cutting aluminum with it and won't need more than 6" or so. Although it's equally likely that mine will look like this: Congrats again and best of luck with the move. [edit]and since it just arrived, the last thing I bought was this:
  14. I'd just pick up some sort of soft sleeve for now Jeff to hold you over until the real (Apple or otherwise) cases are out.
  15. AutoCAD 2009. The workflow is too entrenched in my brain from using it in 2D all day to do anything else. I tried Solid Works a couple of years ago and it didn't go very well. I hope that means you needed the ride, not the helmet. In later day news I swung by a local machinist who is getting ready to retire. He offered to sell me some tools and such and I took him up on it. We only got part way through what I wanted/needed and I'll be making a return trip in a few weeks when he's had more time to find some stuff for me. The gem of today's haul was this: It's an 1/8 to 5/8 keyless chuck and should come in hand on the purchase I made earlier this week.
  16. You'd need male to female XLR converters to do it, don't forget that (as the posters on that forum seem to be).
  17. 6.75A @ 5V, yeesh.
  18. My condolences, Greg. Me: started re-teaching myself how to draft in 3D. Considering that I haven't done much of it in more than a decade it went surprisingly well.
  19. My favorite part of Lessloss's business plan, Riiiiiiiight, so now you're telling me that I have to buy longer cables to get the best sound possible.
  20. Nice, sounds fun to me.
  21. Solution - contact the seller of the 12's (since he's a dealer) and tell him to hunt you down a pair of 11L's. Also, get off your ass and list one of the DAC's on Audiogon.
  22. Any concern about reaching that deep into something with an endmill and getting chatter?
  23. I'd hate to have to clean up the mess from milling that.
  24. Negotiations for time/place to commence shortly. Of course I don't have much to listen to these days but I should be able to provide some interesting sources.
  25. Maybe it's time for some fans?
