  1. Good to hear from you Naaman. Be sure to drop someone a message with what you and the boys need over there.

    Canjam 2010.

Well shoot, if you're going to be there I guess I should be. Flight booked - I get in just before 11am on Friday, depart Sunday afternoonish. Still not 100% I can make it, but figured I'd better make sure I can if I can.
  3. If were an Apple share holder I would be ecstatic with today's news. As an iPhone user I'm decidedly wary about how iAds will be allowed to be used by developers. That's a "time will tell" type scenario but one thing that Apple has proven in the past is that they don't much care if you like the way they think you should like things... Furthermore my 3G does limited multitasking just fine, I can talk and surf, listen and surf, download and surf and a whole host of other things. I'm sure the new multitasking is more complex but it's not like it doesn't already happen on the 3G (and even older) phones. Slacker running the background would be nice, that's all I'm saying. My motivation to upgrade will be when my map can turn from blue to red and they slap the A4 processor in the 4G phone.
  4. I don't think we have any idea just how intrusive the adds will be and I must admit that I'm a bit non-plussed by the idea of embedded adds in apps that already have a clear path to monetization (is that a word?). Are developers really scrambling for cash that badly? Or is it more likely that Apple just found their newest cash cow since they get 40% of the revenue? I also suspect that many of these moves, multitasking for only the 3GS in particular, are simply Apple's way of trying to drive hardware sales via upgrades to older units prior to both introducing a new phone and expanding to multiple carriers. Epic Fail on the lack of tethering too. Fuck you AT&T.
  5. Bye bye Chaarles.
  6. Congrats! Just remember, from this moment on you are the only one on your side. Your agent now has a vested interest in seeing the deal close. Be very picky about anything that comes up in the inspection process and push as hard as you can, everyone else will happily tell you whatever they think you want to hear to keep the ball rolling.
  7. Translation, you can currently find Stretch lounging by the pool.
  8. As a former colleague aptly put it yesterday, "Having a job right now feels like getting a raise."
  9. Today's iPad fun-fact: if you're using it for audio playback you'll get ~140hrs of continuous use. Or as Ray would say, you can listen for 8hrs a day for 17.5 days.

  11. Depends entirely on the vehicle, Dan. Lots of cars/trucks/SUV's have undersized braking systems that run inappropriately hot and trend towards premature warping.
  12. I got to lay eyes, but not hands on the Pad during lunch. I was in the neighborhood of my local badbuy and decided to limp in. All 4 display models were being appropriately fondled by nerds so I watched for 10 seconds or so before getting a dirty. It's a compelling looking device and I'd love to get some hands-on time. No rush though, but maybe prior to CanJam...
  13. Happy Birthday, Zach!

  15. The more I think about this the more I get why they did what they did. I suspect it's mostly an aspect ratio thing in terms of usability and aesthetics, i.e. a 16:9 device would look fricken goofy. Also movies are still plenty big in letter box mode and there's no standard widescreen ratio even in Hollywood so you're always going to get some degree of letterboxing. I think we're going to see a very iPhone like progression with the Pad. Get the first get out, show people what it does and how it does it and do it in a rock solid stupidly amazing battery life way. Slowly roll in features in future generations to give early adopters a reason to upgrade. Is it a somewhat dickish move? Yes, but hardly without precedent. This is the reason I'll likely wait till there's plenty of stock, let used prices come down to sane levels and probably pick up a used one in 4 to 6 months just like I did with the Touch and then the Phone. I am also very curious to see what the rumored Google/Android tablet looks like. One "insider" I was listening to this morning had some very interesting things to say as well as apt comparisons to what we're currently seeing in the Phone market.
  16. Me too. I must be a really kind customer. Unfortunately every time I looked into these cases I could swallow the shipping BS or the idea that something relatively delicate was going to have to be shipped that far with no local resource to deal with if I had a problem. I wish the US importer would bring in some of the larger cases but I guess if they saw $$ in it they'd already be doing it.
  17. ^^ this. And I wonder if there will be immediate trickle down to the Pad?
  18. This may go a long way towards explaining HPA's approach to things.
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. My quote from last year for 10k 4ch RF15s was $390.27 each with a min purchase of 10. Lead time for stock values was 6 weeks. More importantly I misspoke, P&G will go up to 20k, but allegedly refused to go higher.
  21. ^^ Nice, congrats.
  22. Gangstagrass - Ganstagrass This is where the theme song to Justified comes from, so far it's both hilarious and quite well done.
  23. I've been seriously thinking about picking up the Airport Extreme Base Station since my Macbook supports wireless N which is supposed to have much better range and speed compared with G based networks. The iPad also supports wireless 'N' and should get that same better range the base station. If you go through the Education store you can get $10 off. Not a cheap solution but most around here have claimed that Apple makes excellent routers.
  24. The only thing that I'd question is whether or not the man'f has recommended clearances to provide adequate airflow.
