  1. Not really, imagine how fat the phone would be with a case like that if it had started it's life thicker?
  2. In more fun news I finally got to try the big mill tonight in its role as precision round hole cutter accessory. In doing dome final testing of Al's BHse I decided that I wanted to add a bit more ventilation to the power supply chassis. This previously would have meant hours of layout, punch, drill, redrill, redrill again to add the roughly 30 or so holes that I wanted to do. I got the piece setup on the mill in about 10 minutes and a little over a half hour later I was done. Mill/drill FTMFW!
  3. I didn't miss your point, I'm just being obstinate. I do want to clarify one thing - I think it'd be great if Tmo got the iPhone. As referenced in the article I linked to Tmo's plans are generally about 30% cheaper than AT&T and some price competition between carriers would/should benefit consumers.
  4. It's my world, which is to say that I could give two shits about how their coverage is anywhere else. Although I'd argue that Boston is a better example, where last week AT&T could manage no more than Edge service that was so weak it couldn't find a reliable enough data signal to send a picture message. Or is Fenway Park to rural for you?
  5. If you get stuck Stretch let me know, I'm pretty sure the unit Gene linked to could be safely re-packed in a USPS Flat Rate Medium sized box and sent to you for ~$50 (quote was $43.45 w/ delivery in 6 to 10 days).
  6. Not in my neck of the woods. With the updated bars on the iPhone courtesy of 4.0.1 I know get a much better picture of just how wretched AT&T's coverage is up here.
  7. WTF? Does Apple just have a hard-on for shitty service providers? T-Mobile iPhone will Change the Wireless Game - PCWorld Business Center
  8. I think you just earned yourself a custom title.
  9. It's been a draining 24hrs. Yesterday afternoon I received word from my future employer that my start date might be slipping. Uh, say that again? The conversation with the HR department would have been funny if it wasn't actually happening: HR: Can't you just extend with your current employer? ME: Uh, no. HR: I don't know what to tell you. ME: All I know is that as of Friday, I'm unemployed. HR: They're telling me it'll take 30 to 45 days to process 'x'. ME: That's a problem. HR: I know. It doesn't make any sense. ME: You're telling me. So after a mild 2hr period of panic yesterday afternoon word came down that they wouldn't really know anything until today, but the hope was that things could be processed in a timely fashion or otherwise dealt with. This morning I received a call and paperwork confirming that everything is back on track. Phew. Now I just got through lunch with my office since my boss is taking Friday off and wanted to get everyone together to send me off. Pretty surreal experience, punctuated with a few semi-awkward silences and glances between my boss and I. We were at one time pretty friendly, used to go fishing together on the weekends all the time, but that relationship has frayed over the last few years. So for that reason today very much feels like my last day in the office even though I'll be back tomorrow. Not sure what the hell that'll be like.

    Deals

I use a 10+ year old receiver, I suspect it's more dated that the one Outlaw is offering.
  11. Stretch, if you get the one that Gene just mentioned you could probably safely run the exstata off of it and save yourself the hassle of changing jumpers.
  12. Poor 32bit OS that can't address the full 4GB of RAM.
  13. Anyone else getting random emails from AT&T this morning? So far they've suggested that I visit two of their newly remodeled stores... in Michigan. WTF? I'd just be happy if they could get my phone to consistently accept, you know, phone calls.

    Deals

Outlaw has a pretty crazy promotion going on right now... Predictably their website is super flaky right now but I must admit to being very tempted. Alas, the stack would not fit in my rack.
  15. Peter hit the nail on the head. You're likely to simply drive yourself insane trying to use one, regardless of how good the man'f claims it'll work. Save yourself a world of aggravation, but a new head unit.
  16. Congrats Brent!!!
  17. Home Depot / Lowe's carries rubber bumper feet that are pretty indistinguishable from the stock Hammond feet.
  18. My 2
  19. I love how you throw iron around, Frank. That design is simple enough (baring whatever PS is required) that a simpleton like me thinks, "Yeah, I should be able to do that."
  20. Enjoy. It can be a bit uneven at times but I thought it finished strong.
  21. Me too, stupid one day offers.
  22. Dang Gene, didn't take them long to get your quote up as a reference, eh?
  23. I'm a bit bummed that I missed the deal this weekend. I probably would have grabbed a Touch at $220.
  24. I suppose if any one is going to I should probably have a go at the "slot" approach. I got the vise on the mill tuned last night so it's now at least theoretically possible for me to be accurate with it.
  25. I'd say call if you need back up Al, but I'd imagine once you invoke "lawyer Al" all will be taken care of promptly and with much bowing and supplication.
