  1. I have audio ADD (and more specifically DIY ADD) as much if not more than the next guy but I honestly wouldn't be all that excited by the Crack. It's an extremely simple project, designed for the newest of newbies, and while it might teach you a little bit about PTP you don't need it to learn and it's a pretty non-awe-inspiring project from where I sit. It's like saying you love to play baseball and then joining a t-ball league. Sure, you'd be really good, but dang it'd get boring quick. For someone like yourself who has built some pretty complex projects (albeit PCB based) I'd think you'd find it much more satisfying to find an interesting schematic and go from there. Make yourself do all of the layout work, figure out what you want the aesthetic to look like, etc. I did this with the first Menace and TC and I simply can't adequately say how rewarding a process that was. I still have fun with PCB based builds since I really do enjoy the chassis fab aspect, but I'm itching to get started on the 307A project and expect it'll take months to build it. Also, don't shy away from a scratch build because the chassis fab might be difficult, the Menace TC top panel was done almost entirely in FPE's software. I could have easily done something like this and used a hammond aluminum chassis for the base.
  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  3. PM me your # Steve, I'll try to call you tonight.
  4. They looked pretty ok with the drivers installed.
  5. More progress, tried to use the mill to its greatest advantage to cut a slot for the switch instead of a hole. Came out pretty good, oddly enough the ill fitting piece on the front panel was the headphone jack which sat neither square nor flat but was pretty easily adapter to even after the main hole was drilled for it. There's the slightest lip on the slot for the switch which should come off when I apply the brushed finish to the aluminum but as is it looks fine from distances greater than 1'. In case anyone is curious the slot is 7/32" x 1/4".
  6. I believe there's a rumor it might be next week although Haj is correct that the normal cycle would be next month.
  7. IIRC Thaddy is the one who told me about the 'case.
  8. If I may be permitted to throw a wrench in the WA2 plan, if I had that ballpark to spend I might think (especially given your previous bent) about the TTVJ Peak.

    Wooooohoooooo!
  10. Steve, shit, I don't know what else to say. Shit. Boo, sorry about kitty, hopefully he'll make a full recovery. Naaman, good luck to you and your wife, I hope everything goes as planned.
  11. Happy Birthday Tyll!

    Deals

Damnit, I missed the Logitech deal again.
  13. Sorry to hear that MD.
  14. Gene, Tell him to hop on Craigslist instead, it would appear to me that there's a fair number of wifi-only models up for sale.
  15. Safe travels, Naaman!
  16. One of these days I'll get around to polishing and posting the schematic for the Menace-TC. The Crack probably looks a lot like it and coupling the output really helps when driving low impedance loads. I always found the HA-2 (and original Menace to a lesser degree) to be very hit or miss with low-ohm loads. I agree wholeheartedly though, for the price the Crack is great project.
  17. Dare I ask how many you are required to order?
  18. I am not at all a fan of large diameter stepped bits. I have yet to get good results using one larger than 3/4". And yes, I use a keyless chuck on the mill and it works great.
  19. I don't know what you did but the belt used to slip on my drill press long before the quill/taper/arbor would have slipped and fallen out.
  20. I don't really have an issue with their business model or the way they do business, they just don't happen to really make a device that works the way that I want it to. There's no perfect one device for everyone, and for me the iphone coupled with AT&T was the worst phone that I ever owned. I finally realized that I want a phone to act like a phone first, if it's also a pretty capable little mobile computer great. But I'm done making excuses for device functionality in the name of a great user-experience especially in light of the fact that Apple's own update largely ruined that user experience edge that the phone previous held over others. Their computers simply cannot run the software that I want to run in an affordable manner (or in some cases at all). If they work for what you want to do they are, in my experience, great and I'd have no qualms recommending them.
  21. As of today I'm blissfully apple free.
  22. If/Once Kevin confirms that they are appropriate for T2 use feel free to put me down for the min. qty (16?).
  23. I'm all for efficiency on this. I've sat through long live drafts before, they suck.
