  1. Agreed. Mmmmm, cake.
  2. That's a worthless non-argument. Apple had the lead in doing things well, they no longer do. Your insistent need to hold onto a shitty way of doing things is pretty backwards. It'd be like saying you like BMW cars and therefore everything else is shit because it doesn't have the same dash. The newer Android phones are just as easy as an iOs device to figure out, I should know, I've used both for extended periods of time. Are they exactly the same, of course not. No, I'm not. It's the same on my wife's HTC Droid Incredible. And Dan, wait, what, so you're saying the easiest way to shut off the GPS is to shut off every function on the phone that uses a radio? What if you want to leave the phone and wifi on? Android is way ahead on lots of things that make the device more user friendly.
  3. I mean that on my phone there's a simple app sized button that allows me to turn on and off bluetooth, wireless, gps and another setting. One button, not four menus. So it could get a lot simpler, more efficient and more user friendly. But Apple won't allow anyone to do that because they don't think it works well (why, I have no idea). Widgets are wonderful, Apple ignores them, much to their detriment. Another example, the contacts App which allows one-touch speed dialing and texting, there's no equal on iOs and Android is the better for it. Let's continue - when you get a text message on your phone, what happens, annoying pop-up right? You know, those things that they actually developed software for on the web to keep from blowing into the middle of whatever it is that you were trying to do. My phone, the unpolished turd that it is (not) simply displays a quick message in the banner at the top of the screen and then displays a tiny notification icon, none of which impacts whatever it was that I was doing. Further to the point if I then get an email it stacks an email notification icon next to the text. If I miss a call, ditto. When I look at my phone I know exactly what has happened since I last used it. I don't have umpteen fricken pop-ups to wade through just to get back to my phone. Oh and one more thing, please try to go listen to your favorite podcast that you forgot to sync before you left in the morning. Woops, if it's over some magical size limit you're screwed. Me, I just tell my phone that I couldn't care less that I'm not on wi-fi and download away to my heart's content.
  4. Jacob, On your finished iPhone, how many steps does it take to turn off or on GPS?
  5. Then Apple had better get off their ass and fix iTunes. As more and more of their product base becomes 100% tethered to this piece of software it becomes a crucial thing to get right. The current version is a piece of shit. The fact that the iPad cannot load much of anything without being tied to a computer is short-sighted and IMO provides a big impediment to purchase. There's an opportunity there for Apple in Rev2 of the iPad, but I don't think they'll be taking it. There computers are great, provided that you don't want to do much with them. Some allow better processing power and graphics, but they are still ignoring a (not-insignificant?) population by not having a more powerful option. They also seem to have a huge hard-on for battery life, when I just don't see that it matters once you get beyond a few hours with most laptops. I think Steve does a great job running the company and steers it better than any other tech product firm that I can think of, I guess I'm just still amazed at the apparent ball-drops that still occur.
  6. Tyll, For your walks download a free app call Runkeeper, it's pretty cool. And you don't even have to hit navigate if you're really lazy. On the home screen just press and hold the search button and the voice recognition system should open up. Speak, "Navigate" followed by the address and it should take care of the rest. Also, here's to hoping the Incredible gets some of the more recent updates to the Android OS (it's one version behind right now, or my wife's is) which should offer some nice improvements to the UI and performance. One more thing, I agree, the iPhone OS is not superior in my experience to Android. It has some better points, but Android has just as many to counter if now more at this stage.
  7. I think once you try the Nav app, the maps app and a few other stock items you'll likely find the X (and most recent Android phones) to be much more than a FOTM.
  8. Woke up finally feeling a bit better after having been sick for the past week with a nasty cold and sore throat. Only problem is that now the wife has it. Eff. At least Lily started with it two weeks ago so hopefully she'll avoid a repeat performance.
  9. Having been down the transport rabbit hole to some degree I tend to consider them to only be potentially influential. By doing so I try to use something decent (e.g. not a $50 DVD player) but will not go to the extreme of using some $5000 super suspension system insanity.
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. Happy Birthday Jacob!
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. I'm not sure I'd say the Millett is something you can't miss. It's a heck of a budget rig, don't get me wrong, but I'd encourage something more challenging.
  14. So much for well respected...
  15. That's it, thanks.
  16. Frida Hyv
  17. Gorgeous? No, not in my book. I might approach elegant if it wasn't named after do-do but I'm not sure I'd even rate it as sexy. I am curious to learn how they made it, "Tube rollable to permit use of hundreds of different tube types", that just doesn't seem possible unless the tube isn't doing, well, shit.
  18. Generally, they are spec'd by the hole they leave behind but I wouldn't count on any more than half a tenth +/- of accuracy.
  19. Two that come to mind for me are: Swallow The Sun - New Moon (although it was a late '09 release) and Gangstagrass - Gangstagrass (web-only, limited release mp3, now vaporware unfortunately) I'm sure there are many, many more but I've been in a musical drought lately so my memory is badly faded.
  20. Got up, cleared the driveway, drove to work. Was one of roughly 10 employees to make it in (out of 60 or so) so it was a remarkably productive day. Now home listening to the wind howl outside trying to contact customer support for my wife's laptop which appears to have chewed through yet another battery. :S
  21. Less than 12" of snow here but it's windy as hell. Gusts are allegedly in the mid 40s, I believe it.
  22. I just went dbl checked the tractor and put some more gas in it. All ready for the storm, which means it won't amount to squat.
  23. If JH acknowledged receipt then they are 100% at fault and owe the kid $$ or replacements in kind.
  24. Yup, that's awesome.
  25. You're a good man, Wayne.
