Not worth reporting from here at the office which is as near to a black-out zone as can be found around here. 1700 up/down is about the best I've seen which is a lot better than just 3G service speeds here.

Will do. Initial impressions are pretty stellar. The screen is excellent and the overall feel of the phone is very good. It's light in the hand, fits in a pocket well (better than the droid X despite being larger, due to thinness) and battery life has not been an issue today even though it has had to cycle through 4G/3G several times and even down to whatever verizon's edge network equivalent is and I just got done using it for a half-hour conference call. The 4G speeds are ridiculous, even though at best I get 2/5 bars here at the office. Anyway, I'll give it a few weeks and see how the wow-factor holds up and report back.

This late in the season it's going to be slim-pickings Dan. Your best bet might be trolling the ME craigslist adds and looking for a cancellation. You're also almost guaranteed to have to take it for a full week and not get a full weekend out of it. Most rentals run Sunday to Saturday, at least any of them that I've seen or looked at. Who knows what you might find though, but that's my experience.

Jacob, I'm not all that familiar with Portland but have some friends who've spent a lot of time there so I'll try to get you some info soon. There are certainly great places to visit in Portland (the old port, specifically) and a whole lot more within easy driving distance: two examples would be Portsmouth, NH about an hour to the South and Acadia National Park a bit over an hour further up the coast. If you do swing down towards Portsmouth I'll give you my contact info, that's where I work 5+ days a week. I should also be able to give you some off the beaten path beaches to visit as well if you want to chill out during the day time. Good seafood won't be hard to come by.

A band of storms just rolled through, not nearly as bad as yesterday but still enough to overwhelm the storm drains and cause limited, short-term flooding. Seems to be over for now although looking at the radar map a cell is pretty much right over my house...
