Leaving Luck on my bench was a bad choice. I'd have beaten you by 1 point if I'd ignored ESPN's stupid recommendations.

HC Bike/Cycling Thread
Jeff, If you like specialized shoes and are ok running spd pedals you might look at the higher-end mtb shoes which often use the same uppers as the road shoes but just have the modified sole to allow for running/walking on the trail. I run a pretty basic pair of specialized mtb shoes that are super comfy, very well ventilated and also very easy to walk in. The S-Works EVO or S-Works MTB shoes would fit the shiney requirement, work with your existing pedals and not rape your floors. [edit]I'll probably try to move up to something like the Pro MTB shoe this year. Two years on my shoes is probably enough stink to warrant a new pair. Hmmm, sounds like a good birthday idea...

And now what did you do TODAY?
If FedEx/UPS/USPS can't prove that you received the packagd (and leaving it in the wide fucking open doesn't seem like it'd stand up) I'd say you'd be in the clear. You, the receiver, are not on the hook to determine if the package should require a signature, the sender is. At least that's my Motel 6/Holiday Inn Express legal opinion. That said, if you leave a note for the shipping Co. (as I usually do) to put stuff in the shed or wherever be prepped to be the one on the hook.

Once again I'm the simpleton of the bunch. I run poopy $50 Shimano SPD MTB pedals on my road bike. I don't think I have issues with power transfer and I definitely appreciate that they're 2-sided. Double bonus is that I can run the same shoes on my road and MTB bikes.

2012 HC Holiday Gift Exchange
Ok, I'm going to give this till the end of the week and then wrap things up and draw pairs before I leave for my trip for work. Any objections?

Forum Upgrade to Version 3.4
Probably a product of my super-crappy browser at work but as of this morning I can no longer post images. I click the little button and the screen greys out like normal but no pop up window appears. Other functions still seem to work fine (like links) but the image button is borked. I even tried a reboot to see if that might fix it.

Crafting Thread -- Ask Questions About Casework and Whatnot Here ...
#0000 steel wool is much finer than 1000 grit sandpaper. That isn't to say that 1000 grit can't be used but it may remove more material than you want and not provide the polish that Steve is referrinng to.

New Forum Software
The mobile version of the site has a few bugs now too (after the update a few days ago). Nothing that can't be worked around.

Nice. It's sleeting and 36 here right now so my hopes of even a MTB ride today have been dashed.

If it's going to be running on the NMCI network it won't matter how much horsepower there is in the box.

Briefcases, Bags, and the Murse
I actually like the Brain Backpack a lot and will have a hard time not buying it. I love the RedOxx stuff but I picked RO the first time because it was the function over form solution to what I wanted (but still looked good to me). I think case, right now, the Bihn seems like both for what I'm looking for. I wish their factory store in Seattle had better hours so I could go over and find a laptop sleeve or case that might fit in the Backpack but they have really limited hours from what is posted online.

Briefcases, Bags, and the Murse
The Meta, which would be a nice option, is sold out and to-be-updated.

Briefcases, Bags, and the Murse
Hmmm, I really don't want to go over to the darkside of Bihn... I just wish that the Sky Train had more exterior pockets for stashing stuff that you want to get to quickly. I guess I'll give myself a bit more time tonight to mull over options. Thanks for your input everyone and if other ideas come up, feel free to toss them out there. And CJ, yeah, it's a mammoth 12lb'er. It's my only laptop and I need something with excel for the class I'm taking so it is what it is. Until MAC makes something that you can game on I'm sticking with what actually works not what is supposed to work via a semi-workaround, blah blah blah. Bonus is that it'll be nice to watch movies on at the hotel and for typing on for work that I have to bring with me. I'll still bring the ipad for on the plane use.

Briefcases, Bags, and the Murse
W: 16" D: 12.7" H:2.1" Translation, huge. Tom Bihn says they have a horizontal brain cell that will fit it, but I don't think that cell will fit in the Brain backpack. I think I'm going to have to call them...

Briefcases, Bags, and the Murse
I'm actually thinking that a Tom Bihn *gasp* Brain backpack might be the way to go for this trip. I think it'd be easier and more comfortable to carry than a shoulder bag, could pull double-duty as my only carry-on and is reasonably affordable. Sadly Red Oxx doesn't make anything that would accommodate a 17" laptop or at least not my 17" laptop. I think I pretty much have to order something today to make sure it gets here in time or pay through the nose for shipping...
