  1. Goal #1 - get the Calfee fitting right. Doing two long rides on it at the end of the year in extremely cold temps was a bad combo and seems to have truly tweaked my left hamstring. I am slightly concerned that I won't be able to find a happy riding position on it. That would be heart breaking. Mileage Road - 2,000 - same as last year, since I don't really have any more time to ride and I missed the goal by 15 fricken miles. MTB - given how little I got out this year the goal for 2014 will simply be to get out more. I think I might have made it out 6 times which is about half what I'd hoped. The fall season just disappeared... Specific Rides - this will really depend on whether or not I sell the Roubaix and buy some sort of gravel/cross bike. My older brother and I have talked about doing some sort of epic dirt/road ride mid-summer but I'm not doing that on the Calfee or Roubaix. I think ideally I'd like a steel or Al framed bike that isn't so nice that I can't ride it around the neighborhood with the kids. Lily really started to like riding her bike at the end of the year and I'm looking forward to getting out on a few short rides with her. After that I'll definitely be doing the 3-notch ride again. I wouldn't mind tossing in another century earlier in the year and Team Big Guy is talking about trying to do the B2B ride (http://b2vtride.com/) and that decision will have to be made next week. I'm not sure I'm up for thinking about that epic a ride that early in the year. Once during the summer I want to ride to work all 5 days of the week. Just to say that I did. With the new position at work it'll probably be hard to do it twice. We'll see. Fitness - simply put, end the year more fit than I started. I think I succeeded in that effort this year but I can feel it already slipping as there is no real way to replace the amount of time that I spend on the bike with other ways of working out without significantly impacting other areas of life. But, I need to work on that and not simply give up until the weather breaks and I can hit the road again.
  2. Punches damage the panel too much in my experience.
  3. Let me know what you're seeing under $1000, last time I looked anything that looked decent was more like $2k unless you built a lot of it yourself. I still can't get over the hurdle of needing software and a computer to run the thing. What I'd really like is a small CNC unit with a simple numeric control unit attached that allowed for manual, but precise operation. I'm sure I could get that, it'd just cost $5k.

We keep our heat on the second floor at 63/64 so the situation seems fine to me. It's not fun to be pissing away $, assuming heat is not included in your rent, but the temp seems perfectly livable.

I preordered this last month and kept meaning to post about it here...

Shelly, if you're that worried it might be worth running a tap or two all night to keep the water moving. Better a inflated water bill (if you're on town/city water) than a broken pipe.
  7. I can see the logic thread there, Chris. My 2¢ would be to get the refund $, set it aside and wait for the cross bike deal to come back around. I'd try to trade the MF's for a set of clinchers before I invested more $ in wheels. I want some deep profile carbon baddies just for the lunacy of them, but first I've got to get the Calfee fitting right. My left hammie is still giving me issues after being off the bike for more than a month...
  8. Damn that's hot.
  9. Why not a different cross bike? Different wheels, meh, what's not to love about the mad fibers until they break.

Careful now, comments like this cause the BS meter to twitch in a major way.
  12. Time for a desktop CNC router, my friend.

Yeah, it dipped to around -10 here last night and did not get close to breaking 30 today. The roller coaster of the next few days does not look fun.
  15. Happy. Birthday!

Jacob, you should seriously consider a pair of these. They actually issue them to us at work.
  18. Yeah, 80 miles on the trainer, no thanks.

Ugh, Jacob. We got about 12" of light and fluffy annoyance. It's supposed to be bitterly cold tonight (-10, windchills in the -30's) and then warm up to just above freezing on Sunday and rain. WTF?

It's so cold and windy that the roads were clear on the way home. Funny how the fact that salt has been rendered useless makes it currently safer to drive. FYI it was colder at 3pm (5F) than it was at 7am (7F) - not a good sign. I'll mount the gopro on the tractor tomorrow for the fun that wil be clearing the drive way with windchills in the -20s.

Yeah, multiple accident reports on my path home so I'll be heading out pretty soon. Not sure what tomorrow will have in store since the storm isn't supposed to be over until mid-morning.

12 to 16 predicted here overnight. There's a couple inches on the ground right now but the worst isn't due until later. It's frackong cold - 7F on the walk to work.
  23. I guess I should give this show a shot, eh? You and I tend to like a lot of the same TV.
  24. What do you ride? We've got a pretty diverse group here.
  25. Glad you made it home Ken and that the injuries are no worse than they are. Take it easy as much as you can. All of them are going to require time to heal properly.
