This. UGH! -
Sucks, John. Here's to hoping her insurance doesn't give you any shit about the repairs.

Whoops, like Todd this had slipped my mind. DONE. Go Raffy, GO!

Thanks very much guys. I'd love to say that it was super day but sadly the wife came down with strep throat (no motor boating) so it was pretty low key and she and the kids are now fast asleep. Still, Lily made me an awesome birthday card and I picked up some pretty epic (by my standards anyway) beer on the way home so the evening is recovering nicely. This coming weekend the wife and I will dump the kids on my in-laws and head out for good food and drink so my lonesome is temporary. This thread provided some much needed laughs.

So I'm finally going to do something about the sagging performance of my windows lappy. Right now it's got a hybrid drive in one slot and a standard lappy drive in the other, both 500GB. I don't think I really need that much capacity so I'm thinking all I really need to replace is the primary HD with a SSD with at least ~240GB to allow for application and some document storage with a buffer. Right now I'm leaning towards the Crucial M500 or Kingston V300, both of which are under $130 for the 240GB version. If there's a compelling reason to spend a little more I could be swayed. And while it doesn't quite double the price to get to 480GB I just don't think I need that much rapid access storage but again, I am here asking for advice so... I'm also going to bump the RAM from 4GB to 8GB. I haven't quite convinced myself to tackle upgrading the processor which was actually downgraded by the PO to an i5 from the stock i7 . I'm not sure it makes a difference anyway in my application. In case it makes a difference the platform is an Alienware M17X R2 w/ dual ATI HD 4780s (1GB each) so my feeling is that I should be able to get a few more years out of this thing without a major investment. I basically use it as a mobile desktop, always AC powered. Thanks in advance.

That's pretty much what I was thinking after your review.

Happy Birthday, Naaman!

All you can eat crab legs with DFH 60 minute IPA on draft. Not a bad after work meal.

Today was beautiful, for this time of year anyway. Sunny, highs in the mid to upper 40s, no more than a light wind. So my wife and I dropped the kids at my parents house and went skiing. That part of snow I don't mind one bit.

Happy Birthday, Dan!!

We've officially crossed over to the dark side - I just drove through a thunderstorm complete with blinding rain. Everything is a huge mess.

Happy Birthday!

Sorry Dan. I'd bet there's somewhere near a solid 3' of snow over my entire yard at this point with drifts that are another 12" or so deeper. Buildings at work are starting to have major issues as well due to the combination of snow and ice. We had to evacuate one office earlier today and I expect to make the call on an entire facility tomorrow. If we the rain that they are predicting on Friday it could get very ugly.

Fuck me, we got another 3" this afternoon.

Happy Birthday, Colin!

Ouch Marshal. The forecasters here got it wrong. 4-8 turned into a solid 10 which just took an hour and a half to clear off of the driveway. The snow banks are about as high as I can remember seeing them considering that we haven't had a single storm in excess of 12" that I can remember. Just a ton of midsized storms. I shot a little video while I was out there, just for kicks and I'll post it later if I can get it whipped into shape so that my southern and western lawyers can enjoy it.

Body geometry is decidedly different on the trainer.

Happy Birthday, Steve!!

Yeah, we've got another 3-6" or so in the forecast tomorrow and it's bordering on depressing. We're paying big time for some recent, very mild winters I guess. The only hope is that this means that we might have something approaching a normal spring and not go from freezing to frying overnight. And when did they start naming winter storms? That has to be the lamest weather-related thing they've come up with in a long while. Next thing you know every time in rains in the summer it'll be "SUMMER STORM JOEY JO JO" or some bs. Good grief.

Way to go, Raffy. When time permits I'll definitely donate again this year. I'm quite jealous that you've not only been able train already but that you're able to ride in an event in March.

We got another 3 or so inches last night. Pretty hard to tell with the 20+mph winds that were blowing most of the time and continued through the morning. The depths in the driveway ranged from bare pavement to 12" deep. Tomorrow is supposed to be pretty fracking nasty too. Highs in the single digits and wind chills in the double-digit below 0 category.
