These look really nice and the price is really amazing!! Not being american I don't really care about all the made in the USA thing, but I certainly understand a am for supporting one's country economy and so kudos to you. I wish you all the best and would really love to heard one of these! Are you planing on selling these in Europe?
-
If this happens in 2011 count me in, for attending and if possible any help on the organizing part here in Europe. I'd really love to see this happen, and if I weren't the only portuguese guy here and there ( well, not the only, but the onlyone which participates a bit) I'd suggest Portugal. We have nice great places and prices in and nearby Lisbon and prices are really decent compared to other places in Europe, furthermore the Summer is low season in Lisbon, which further brings the prices down. We have great wine and food too, lots of sun and beaches! This said, count me in for wherever it is! ps: I have a few friends working in travel agencies and hotels throughout Europe, so if/when we settle on a location, there is a remote chance I can get some nice place with a discount!

Here's the site of a Portuguese(actually the guy's Brazilian) audio engineer that has some great work in room acoustic treatment. Click on the names to see some pics. Some nice custom home theater rooms and overall nice solutions. Shame there are no descriptions of the work done. This one is really nice: AUDIO DESIGNER , a 500000€ 7.1 surround listening room. It later evolved to become a working station for 7.1 mastering. There's an article about it however it's written in portuguese. The pics are worth it though!

I just noticed this thread. Congrats gents for having the courage to announce this so openly, I was amazed this wasn't posted in the Casino, this community is indeed something special!

Are you serious? Colin won something again? @Colin: could you choose some random numbers for me? I need 5 numbers between 1 and 49 and 2 numbers between 1 and 9!

This wins the best t shirt award!!

Definitely not early for pics! Show us the surroundings!

Farnell is indeed in Europe, but they don't have all the parts and IC's necessary, I've made different BOMS and never can reduce the number the of vendors to 3! and further the order from mouser is below 75€ so I have to pay shipping. I could build a second a sell it though!
-
I'd still have to order from AMB and the case from somewhere, so it's still 3 different vendors. Also if someone could do this and ship it as a personal package I could possibly avoid customs!
-
Hello, I'm looking to build a gamma2 DAC, but shipping costs from all the different vendors makes it very expensive here in europe. If anyone is getting parts for this soon, would it be possible to order double the parts and ship them to me? I'd be very thankful for this! Regards, Manuel

This was using ohm, with a fluke 179 self ranging multimeter. Kohms, or ohms, the difference between the right and left channel values was always below 0,5 and this more in the kohm range!

So the attenuator arrived, and it looks quite nice for the price. The resistors are well matched, with 0.5 to 0.02 differences across the 21 steps. I was quite impressed by such a good matching. I haven't used it yet as I don't have an amp needing this for the moment.

If I'd be building this, I would use Nelson's exact specifications and measurements for the cabinets since AFAIK, he did some testing on them to make sure they sounded good! Diverging from the original design either in size and/or driver choice could be a disaster sound wise! Or maybe you could come up with a new great sounding horn!

HeadAmp GS-1/Sheer Audio HA-006+ comparison

That only really depends on the size of the knob! The bigger the knob, the easier it is! -
HeadAmp GS-1/Sheer Audio HA-006+ comparison
MASantos replied to GPH's topic in Headphone Amplification
According the the manf. website it uses a stepped attenuator (which looks exactly like a 10$ 21 position stepped att. sold on ebay by a chinese company), better input and output connectors, upgraded transformer, pcb and better parts al around. All this together could prove a good upgrade from a technical POV. -
NKOTB - TTVJ/Millett 307A Headphone Amp
MASantos replied to n_maher's topic in Headphone Amplification
But still you are paying for that markup, because if the markup were smaller the 2nd hand or sale price would be lower. You get a better deal yes, but the markup is still there! And regarding selling more at a lower price, it doesn't always compensate. For instance, if 10 people buy a product which has a profit margin of 10, the total profit is 100 If the price goes down and the profit reduces to say, 700, and 14 people buy it(405 increse in sales), then you only make 98 of profit, with the extra "trouble" of spending the time building and selling it These are of course not cientific calculations, but you get the ideia. -
wow, so the sansa clip+ is actually a good player now
MASantos replied to Chekhonte's topic in Portable Audio
I don't own one actually, I just didn't see flac support on the sansa website. I need an ultraportable solution for the gim, the ipod+pico slim being huge in this context. Anyone tried this with the shure E4c? -

Howare you guys playing flac on the newer versions of the clip +? Or is this only possible on the earlier versions? -
So I changed the tubes for a pair of RCA 12FK6. The scratching sound is gone, as well as lots of background noise, and the volume is perfectly centered! Lesson learned: check tubes and bias before ordering new parts! I remember reading somewhere about the differences in the millett hibrid tubes, can't find it though, does anyone have a link? Thanks for helping guys!
-
Ok, I measured the resistances on both channels with the volume in different positions, and they have a slight variation of about 0,15k to 0,30k between them across the range, the left channel always having lower resistance. Could this small difference cause this? I'm replacing the tubes and checking all the bias points again, will report back!
-
When I turn the volume all the way up, and reduce on the digital volume of winamp, the imbalance is less perceptible, but still there. When I move the volume knob with no music playing, I hear a "scratching sound" on the right channel (right channel is the one that sounds lower than the left one), I suspect this has something to do with the pot? Or could it be the tubes? I have these in the amp for a long time, and the amp was unused for about 6 months.
-
Well I ordered one anyway, for 15$ I can give it a try! I'll report back once it arrives!
-
With a 50k Rk27 I usually have the volume pot between 11-15 o'clock position for regular listening levels, using AKG 701's and a alien dac, so I guess that the gain is ok. I ordered one, for 15$ I can give it a try, I'll report back!
