  2. Just FYI, I e-mailed SFT a couple of times over a month ago, and I never heard back from him.
  3. Both photozone and the-digital-picture rate the 17-55 as extremely sharp. "As it turns out, my 17-55 matches or exceeds the optical performance of my L-Series zooms in this similar focal length range." I agree it is not a good option if you plan to buy a full frame camera in the future, but not everyone has a 5D in their upgrade path. If I were sticking to 1.6x cameras, the 17-55 would be on my list of lenses.
  4. If you're not planning to buy a full frame camera, the 17-55/2.8 would be a perfect carry-around lens for meets and almost anything else. The 50/1.8 also makes a nice cheap fast portrait lens on the 40D. For flash, I use a stofen omnibounce that works pretty well for quick diffused shots.
  5. I avoid oak like the plague. I really don't like the grain pattern.
  6. Buffy and Angel are both fun shows. I miss having stuff like that on TV. My family got into Buffy around season 4 because a family friend was pretty obsessed with it. We used to get together and watch it every week. I have all of Buffy and Angel on DVD, bought as separate box sets whenever they were on sale. I still have Buffy season 5-7 to watch on DVD (the sets are unopened!). Damn that Angel series finale

  8. I've never tried flats on the RS-1s. I've also never tried MS-Pros.
  9. I do listen pretty quietly. I was surprised when the RS-1s started giving me tinnitus at even moderate volume levels. I thought it must have been caused by something else, but it happened more than once. Very sad, because I love the way they sound. I'm willing to put up with listening VERY quietly if I do get a pair later.
  10. My last rig was a CIA VDA-1/VAC-1, SP Extreme, and RS-1s. I sold it all last year, so I've been away from headphones for a little while. I now have a balanced B22 on the way from thrice and a minidac USB from grawk in a week, but I haven't been able to decide on headphones. All the nice headphones I've owned are Grados. MS-1, HF-1, and RS-1. I am pretty happy with the Grado sound, and really like the RS-1s, but I found they gave me low level tinnitus really easily. I'll probably eventually get a pair, but I'd like to try something different this time. I've been seriously considering HD650s, but opinions of them vary so much it's hard to tell anything. I don't have the opportunity to try anything locally, so I pretty much have to go on what I read online. I'd really like something that will showcase the B22's qualities and not sound exactly the same as Grados. I won't be ordering for a week, so I've got time to decide. Any suggestions?

  14. I like to keep my hot and cold cereal choices separate. I agree with the choice of steel cut oats. It's the only type of oatmeal you should consider for breakfast. None of that rolled oats bullshit...
  15. Ahem. Crispix.
  16. What sort of milk are we talking about here?
  17. Both those grinders look pretty lousy. The grinder is important enough that it's worth getting something reasonable -- at least a Solis Maestro or (Baratza) Virtuoso. I lust after the Mazzer Mini
  18. I'm curious about how this compares to the HotTop. I've read it can't roast a full pound to dark (not that the HotTop can either). I'm most interested in the low-smoke feature -- roasting outside in the Winter is not fun
  19. November 2004, a couple of months after putting up the current site, to remove a minor note about attending a show. He also removed the pricing from the pricing page some time in early 2005.
