1. are the through holes for the transformer/volume pot/etc a certain standard distance apart? i ask to see if those hand terminal blocks could be used (ones which get soldered on to the board and the wires get screwed into the block. after having to solder and desolder and solder and desolder and solder and desolder again and again while using the wrong fuse (needed to use slow blow in stead of the supplied fast blow with the crack amp...) i really missed having those screw on things. just a little though in case the bom is still fluid. would help us noobs a lot while troubleshooting. if it is more of a personal preference then i wouldnt mind being told what exactly the thing is called so i can start looking for it.
2. size queen nice to see the black on black. looks sexy. now try on the silver one and post pics
3. forgive the tape still havent had time to get wood glue yet >< but the amp is fully functional and sounds great. slight hiss only with the volume all the way up on the thinkpad. with the rca receiver and my pcdp dead dead quiet. before i put the speedball kit in, i took out the sprague caps and put in the stock ones. should have listened to colin =/ amp sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. was starting to think about selling it but all such thoughts have been banished. hell i dont even want to sell the 701s now midrange is quite good. pictures courtesy of one of the cooler office mates ive had in a while. he has one of those fancy canon eos cameras.
4. dad wanted something that does everything this does. id appreciate thoughts on the gui etc whenever you got it plox.
5. i dont even understand what that time cube guy was saying...
6. for those of us who arent as technically savvy as others, are you suggesting that one tape down the pcb to the bottom of the chassis and drill a hole through the pcb and the bottom of the case OR that the pcb already has a hole and after taping the pcb down the to the bottom of the case, one drills through the case where ever a mounting hole is present on the pcb? my apologies if you meant something entirely different. obviously i misunderstood. in both events i would be rather scared of damaging the pcb. what are the chances that something like that would happen?
7. if deemed trustworthy enough, i wouldnt mind volunteering the time to split up a big box of parts into individual kits (assuming none of that parts matching stuff is required). my schedule prohibits any of sort extracurricular activity on days besides friday, saturday and sunday but i figured its better than nothing. so if a big shipment of parts were to land on my desk, i could split it up to kits but obviously it might take me a lot longer than someone who had more time to devote to it. i dont have anything to add to the project intellectually, perhaps time could count for something. i dont know if this is far too tedious a task or far too difficult but who doesn't like a good dragon to slay every now and then.
8. in for a set of boards necessary for the amp as well. if anything in the way of a kit of parts is assembled, i will provide 10 soj and 3 goats to the assembler/provider of said kit. many thanks will be added and a few beers perhaps (limited to 10 beers though...i know how some of you guys drink )
9. al, amarra stuff > burmester? i dont know anything about burmester other than their gear looks super cool.
10. burmester?
11. in sofla, i would imagine nothing
12. i dont get it what am i missing?
13. nice mike. how you like it for a dac?
14. just submitted my dissertation for final approval to the advisory committee. hopefully none of the math is wrong >< nice view there manuel.
15. it is. but things havent picked up yet. saturdays are my only day off so i am going to try to spend 1-2 hours every saturday until i get the speakers done as the woodshop is a 5 minute walk from my office. its a simple enough build so shouldnt take more than 6 or 7 sessions.
16. i dont know if i am just a pansy but when i touch any part of the amp (the bell included) after its been on for ~1 hour (with music playing) i cant keep my fingers touching the metal for more than 3-4 seconds. anything potentially screwed up?
17. going to start building a pair of basszillas for a buddy of mine this weekend. was doing some background reading on it and thats where the dx4 popped in my head. the entire drive home from school i was getting pissed off for not being able to recall why i even thought of that driver in the first place. now that i know, i can go to sleep in peace
18. i meant the actual construction of the amp - soldering, wiring etc. what could i be doing better or different for that matter?
19. keep reading. paper states the dx55 being used in multiple places.
20. sure putting feastrex drivers in a box (where you can only see the front) is a sin by all measures.
21. any comments on how to improve the build would be much appreciated.
