i did that last year. didnt go to any of the talks. spent the entire weekend with another grad student playing poker. first night i lost $1700 and he wont $800. second night i made $2300 and he lost $1500. third night we both made ~$2000 each. excellent trip overall just before we were about to leave, on a whim, we both put $100 each on black and lost our money but still came out on top. the flight and the stay was paid for so a good time it was. on the way back we both laughed to ourselves that i had just made the same amount of money in about 20 hours that i normally take a month to make as a grad student.

Will run malware bites when I get to school. Forgot to mention that my laptop was turned off last night when emails were supposedly sent out. -

Wtf. I changed my password to a 17 character behemoth. All my contacts got another set of emails last night. Keylogger then? Dan how would the spambot get my contact list without the password? Or are there ways? -

unless the bot knew the windows 98 license key to my computer in india, i doubt it would have been able to get access to it. i dont have any written record of it anywhere. -

hard drive farm is at school. at home i just have a 3mbit line which would render the whole thing useless. i didnt not know that dusty (about the contact being compromised). i just find it very strange that i had no problems whatsoever and then the one night i take the laptop home this happens. no evidence other than what i posted earlier. if someone guessed my password then they deserve to be in my interwebs. if a machine did it then whatever. it was a 14 character random sequence of numbers and letters and 2 special symbols. -

Strange thing is my thinkpad hadnt been home in over 2 months. And I had no problems. My mom came back from India and the very next day got locked out of her emails. I took my laptop home last night for the first time in months and my email got jacked. My laptop at least everything is updated daily so I don't think that's the issue. The only thing that changed for my machine was that I took it home. Before then there were no problems. I want to think it's the wireless but I dont know enough to be certain of it. -
we have a dsl line with at&t at home and a wrt300n linksys wireless router. the password to get admin access to the router settings is pretty strong. up until now i had been using wpa2 personal encryption and the password was ok. not terribly strong. about a week ago both my moms emails accounts were compromised and i reset the router settings and changed the ssid and all router associated passwords. last night both my gmail accounts were hacked and random emails were sent to some of my contacts. i tried find the last few used ip's from gmail but they all were from a few hours ago and only showed my office or home ip addresses. is it possible to remotely (not within range of the wireless router) access the wireless router and fuck with the home network? what do i do at this stage? get a new router (seems like whoever is getting access to my network right now could just as well do the same with a new router...) or change the password more frequently? suggestions for other things i could do to prevent such intrusions in the future? all home machines have symantec suites installed on them. i use nod 32 on my thinkpad.

Grahame, are you talking about fried or regular ones? Pm me your address. Mom just came back from India and I think she brought some goodies that might suit your palate.

yes, i shall start preparing for the mcats (again) in the fall and spend the year taking a few classes and hopefully shadowing some doctors. back in the day a 40+ score was enough for hms. now, you need to have saved babies from burning buildings and have killed osama twice and have cured cancer while taking 15 classes and bench pressing 500 lbs with your left hand while you hang from a building upside down with your other. times certainly have changed.

i iz nao a pee-hech-dee. lolsup? on a different note, i realized last night that i absolutely hate what i am doing (after 5 years). i have never had any interest whatsoever in financial math and pretty much did it because i thought i could make a lot of money doing it and because my parents told me that i should do it along with a few colleagues who wanted to do it themselves and convinced me i wanted to do it as well. as i shared with a few of you before, i went to med school and after 8 days of attending, decided not to continue and left and then got myself kicked out for lack of a better phrase of the phd program i had immediately entered for not being adequately prepared. i never shared the true reason for making that big of a mistake with my life mostly because it is far too embarrassing and well until i forgive myself for it, it shall stay with me. my mcat scores are no longer active and after having a rather lengthy talk with my parents who were not entirely supportive of the idea, i decided to take another crack at the mcat. i have enough degrees already from things i didnt want to do myself and i dont think i am that smart. i do work rather hard and have been able to fool people into thinking i was bright enough to deserve a phd. last night, however, marked the first time i wanted to do it for myself. it might just so happen that i quit it this venture as well like i have a track record or doing - first med school, then law school, then financial math but for the first time it will not be because i did something i disliked just because my parents wanted me to do it. the decision feels right mostly because it isnt motivated by a need to make money (law school, financial math) nor based on what my parents want me to do (everything ive done so far). as cliched as it sounds, it feels like a giant weight has been lifted. looking forward to preparing for this beastly exam again. should be fun. looks like you were right vicki sorry for disagreeing you all those months ago in chat.
