  1. There is a group of some 12 ducks that we feed everyday. This is how the fuckers repay me.
  2. Rust oleum paint and primer in one spray paint in a can. As long as what isn't epoxy? The paint or the remover? Suggestions?
  3. Could sand paper work for getting rid of all the paint or will I need any special tools? Steve, could you clarify, "feather the edges." I don't mind starting again. I'd like for it to be a nice clean job. I don't have a garage area but do have a little patio area behind the house and some big boxes. I was thinking for cutting out some holes in the box and putting it over the case the next time when I leave it to dry so the ducks don't have access. Anyone have better ideas on preventing dust from accidentally getting on the paint the next time?
  4. So I was working on the torpedo top cover and left it outside the house for the paint to dry. Awesomely enough a fucking duck put dirt and shit all over it. I have access to home depot and limited funds. Is there anything that can be done to fix this so I can start over or did the duck fuck it all? Thanks
  5. Happy birthday knuckleman.
  6. Got everything (almost) put together. Went to home depot today to get some screws for the iec module and other stuff but forgot to get the stupid solder lug for te safety ground now I must wait until day after to go though the initial testing. Bleh.
  7. Yeah but that would require just two more cuts to fix. Whoever said I was any good at math...
  8. Tom, have you considered using one of your big paper cutters with the wooden base and a big blade pivoted at one corner. Comes down in an arc like you are pulling a lever. We have em down here in office depot and FedEx kinkos stores. Cut the original 600 into 6 strips. Then feed all 6 at the same time and keep pulling the lever. Postpone joint pain for a few years you know and cut your cutting action down 6 fold.
  9. Happy birthday jacob
  10. congratulations ric and family
  11. The box from tom is finally in my possession as of 15 minutes ago. Holy mother of all things well packaged...Tom, I hope you don't take this the wrong way but you are insane brother man. i used to think I was a fairly cautious packer but you put me to shame and swept the floor with me. Still waiting on the parts from Mouser but put whatever I have so far together to see how it all fit and am quite pleased so far. I haven't had any financial dealings with Tom in the past but I can definitely see where he gets his good name from, and deservedly so. Hopefully the mouser stuff will arrive tomorrow otherwise I have to wait till Tuesday to stuff this puppy. Any tips before I do anything in terms of grounding or noise/hum reduction?
  12. Happy bday chris

  14. I have both of the suggested ones. The bugle boy and the black plate mullard set me back a fair bit but the 421a and the 5814a seemed to sound the best - probably why they stayed in as a combo for over a year. I have the bugle boy in right now and its a very very clean sound. I don't want to call it clinical but it is colder than the hytron. Don't have a dremel tool but do have a drill. I'll see if I can hack up something from it. Or perhaps ask around my neighbors. Might throw in some 5998 or a 6AS7 for a different flavor tonight since I changed the input tube too. Needless to say a much cleaner sounding amp with the input tube replacement.
  15. after a year or so with this amp, my cbs/hytron 5814a seems to have stopped wanting to play clean noise. too much static and warbly noises continuously. Reseating the tube would help for a minute but once the tube warmed up, the noise would come back. I don't want anything too expensive as I already have a slew of tubes for the amp but I loved the sound of the hytron. is there anything similar to the tube anyone can suggest? i will probably get one of the hytrons as they aren't too costly but something new/similar to try out would be reasonable.
  16. Happy birthday sir
  17. Is that even enough clearance for the power cable? Don't know if the 1 cm was a serious number.

  19. I was going to wish everyone in Hindi but I don't think there is a Hindi word for Christmas. Oh well. Merry Christmas. Hope everyone enjoys a safe holiday.
  20. Anyone know about a sigma sa7n camera? Looks to be in pretty good condition. Comes with 28-80 and 70-300 lenses. Sigma mount. Lenses are in pretty good condition. $110? Want something decent and cheap to play with film. Something with decent resale value would be nice in case it doesn't go too well.
  21. i think the sfbags one will probably fit the bill perfectly. thanks all.
  22. what are the specs of this magical laptop? surely there are deals floating around these deals that are comparable. ill keep a look out even though you seem to have your ear closer to the ground with these things.
  23. The install disc needs to be aware of the Hdd controller though. Which if has some weird firmware or drivers that the installation media does not like it will keep throwing errors. Happened on a really old dell when I tried to change the Hdd. It may very well have been something else entirely but the drive worked elsewhere so I don't know what else it could have been. Second what john said. Ask for refund. If you get it take the money and save up for something more reliable. Otherwise settle for a replacement.
  24. I hate running around chasing Microsoft gremlins and usually format at the first site of trouble. Hate to say it but have you considered starting with a clean slate?
