  1. I was given a choice of some free seats to a baseball game at marlins stadium. http://miami.marlins.mlb.com/mia/ballpark/seat_selection_guide_32.jsp Between the Baseline Reserved, Bullpen Reserved and Home run Porch, which seats would be the best? Never been to a baseball game and couldn't find a dedicated thread in the sports forum.
  2. I seem to have very sensitive skin or the neck strap that came with the d800 is full of nasty bacteria (probably both). I finally took it out yesterday and woke up today with nasty inflammation and bumps on the back of my neck where the strap rested. Are there any straps that are considered hypoallergenic? Or made more carefully than perhaps the stock neckstrap?
  3. I only have Lightroom, Ari. To my knowledge one needs Photoshop to be able to do stacking like that. But its a cool way to get around needing a filter. However I am not sure the cost of Photoshop is less than the cost of a filter even if there is some extra noise to contend with. PS. Looking for open source stuff/plugins for LR that will do stacks on a macbook air. The amount of time spent shooting 30 frames and then processing them on a computer with 4gb ram might not be stomachable. Will give it a try tomorrow night though.
  4. Thanks Dan. No filter unfortunately but the only times I really get to go out are lunch or night times so I think it wise to invest in one for these long exposures. But 10 second exposure at ISO 80 I think with some other exposure compensation that I can't remember. Might have been able to push the time longer with an nd filter and get longer light trails but quite pleased with how this one came out. The tripod has helped immensely. No way I could have pulled this off with that gorillapod.
  5. John, thanks for the kind offer. I think I'll take up Nate on his to see if more than one needs to be replaced. Pm incoming. Thanks again guys.

  7. Didn't work initially and found ken rockwells review. Apparently you have to rotate it two full circles for it to lock. I was expecting it to click into place instead of screwing in.
  8. Gene, At whatever the f stop was - either f2 or 2.8. It is back focusing a wee but I think on my body. Today I finish all my finals for the semester (the ones I'm teaching) so hopefully will have some time tomorrow to get the af fine tune dialed in. But I think it just needs adjustment by +2 or 3. Nothing major. I don't like that the hood doesn't lock in neither the resting nor the extended position. I feel that over time, it might loosen up. I was also thinking about the 135 dc but after looking at the field of view the 105mm gives me, I think the 135 would be too claustrophobic (mostly I've shot 35 or 50mm so it is weird getting used to this longer focal length but after I took the first shot I understood why it was the preferred length for portraits.)
  9. D800, in all it's full frame glory
  10. I agree entirely. Taking a photograph of a girl doesn't mean I am looking for someone else to go out with though. Not that it matters, but she is a student of mine. I was holding a review prior to the final exam at Whole Foods. Above picture was the only one that wasn't ruined by harsh shadows from midday sun. Also it was the only one where I used the flash and the clouds somewhat covered the sun.
  11. Is american pride the theme or similarly lit scenes? The bright spot by the bottom right corner of the flag seems to stand out awkwardly. But very nice image otherwise Ari.
  12. Took mah new 105 dc out for a spin at lunch. It's naaaaice
  13. the m4a file wouldn't attach so I converted it to mp3. sounds the same as the original.
  14. I turned on the amp after about a week and a half of work being done on the house and attached is a short clip of what I heard. Recorded with the iPhone mic about 2 inches away from the driver but its a pretty close representation of the issue. 1. I turned it off after 10 minutes of warm up and it still making the same noise. 2. Turned it on again and let it warm up for 15 minutes. Still the same noise. Biased the tubes. Still the same noise. 3. The noise is equal in both channels from what I can tell. 4. The noise if constant with two different sources. 5. All tubes are lit except for 12ax7s. I don't see anything in them but I don't know if this is normal behavior for them. Don't have a tube tester or access to one but I have put on maybe 100 hours of listening time on them. The previous owner mentioned 200 of his own. Anyone think one/more of the tubes went? Any way to troubleshoot this without another tube set? Without knowing which tube it is, a replacement set will run close to $500 so I'd like to avoid it if possible. I have a dmm that I can use with detailed instructions on where to put the probes. Suggestions anyone? Memo.mp3
  15. Isn't may supposed to be hot?
  16. I want a jet ski
  17. 650 it is then.
  18. I'm probably going to have to give up my speakers from the fall onwards at least until I have an apartment by myself. I love the 650s. As of right now, outside the house listening is through the trusty jh 16s and inside the house I always use speakers. Would there be a significant upgrade to go from the 650 to the 800 or am I better off just keeping the 650s? I predict a very sedentary and quiet lifestyle come up so headphones will be used again.
  19. Those are the Bangladeshis John. They are from Chechnya. But I can see how they might have made that mistake.
  20. Thanks guys. I celebrated the beginning of the summer and the end of the semester by just waking up at 10am. I haven't felt this rested in months.
  21. Meh, I couldn't help but laugh at how stupid some people really are. Luckily for them, a Geography test isn't required to be released from jail.
  22. From the beach a couple of hours ago. I approached a couple who were doing nothing and explained to them what the 100 strangers project was and asked if I could take a picture of one or both of them. "What's your name again?" "Anurag." (While handing them my card) "What kinda name is that? Where are you from?" "India." "You fucker. Your fucking people fucking blew up that fucking bomb in Boston and killed that innocent boy." "Sir those boys were Chechens...from Chechnya." "I know who they were. You fuckers all live next to each other. Get the fuck away from us. Get out of this beach. This is America. We don't tolerate you brown Muslim assholes here." "Ok...have a lovely evening." About 30 minutes later these two police officers track me down further down the beach and asked me what I was doing and if they could go through my bag. I didn't care and didn't want to argue with them for long so told them to go ahead as I had nothing to hide. Turned out one of the police officer's son was in my class last semester and his daughter is in my class now and both apparently nice things to say about me. As he was apologizing for accosting me, the couple came from behind and started yelling at the officers for not arresting me and then got belligerent and started yelling slurs at one of the officers. Then they were both arrested as the guy shoved the officer in the back and the wife started hitting the other officer when he was cuffing the husband. They apologized for the couples behavior and then carted the couple away. By now it was so dark that I couldn't take pictures which pissed me off a lot more than the whole ordeal. Fun evening.
