Speed booster allows AF but they aren't cheap iirc. Here is a little twist on the 100 strangers project. I decided to get to know people in med school a little better. Since the only free time we have is during lunch all were taken in very harsh light outside but I'm happy with how they turned out. Suggestions for improvement welcome. http://anuragkatyal.blogspot.com/2014/02/never-trust-fart.html -

No way in hell, does the nikkor 85/1.8 ever give me this. My anatomy professor just go the A7R while we were hanging out in his office a little while back. He cancelled his dinner plans because he wanted to play with the new toy since it got here 3 days early. The camera is freaking amazing. -

One of my anatomy lab partners (on the right) and my peer mentor (second year med student on the left). Both lovely girls. -

Paging Jacob. Just 22k actuations. http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1276056 -
I use one of these. http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/510830/Realspace-PRO-Quantum-9000-Series-Mesh/ I like it. With a bad lower back, the chair has been extremely comfortable. Having mesh all around is a blessing as it aids in ventilation. Keeps me cool in the south florida heat.

Tried adjusting focus in the body with my anatomy professor. He was kind enough to lend me his tripod and had a wireless transmitter so we could see the images immediately on his laptop. Could not get the lens to be sharp at even f/5.6 which seems to be the sweet spot for it. He agreed that the particular nikkor 85/1.8 was poor. I don't know if the shipping got to it or if it was a shoddy piece but after giving it two tries I think I am done with it for now. Hopefully Sigma releases an art series 85mm lens soon. Here is one with their 35mm shot wide open at f/1.4. -
Anyone?

Shave-Case: The official HC hair removal thread.
crappyjones123 replied to Knuckledragger's topic in Miscellaneous
One of my friends from the Math dept at my last school was visiting home in Italy and brought back a tube of Proraso shaving cream. Best shave I have ever had. The lather felt different and the hair cut smoother. There was still some tugging but no razor burn after I was done. Feels nice and cool now but was a bit warm when I applied it first. -

The shot at f/4.5 has the tear gland pretty sharp. Same plane of focus as the eye. Both were hand held. If it were a technique issue, wouldn't it be even more prominent with the 135mm lens? I get super sharp eyes with that lens (granted it is manual focus). -

Here is the problem I have had with two 85mm f/1.8s now. I don't know how one calls this sharp when the eyes are just a liquidy mess. I don't get this issue with the sigma 35 or the zeiss 135. What's the point of a portrait lens if the eyes look like that? Shot with D800, ISO 640, f/4.5, 1/125 sec. Shot with D800, ISO 640, f/2.2, 1/250 sec. -
Julie dared me so here goes nothing... I am sorry.

Anyone else underwhelmed by season 2 compared to season 1?
-
Perhaps but they are 9 and 13 and the world revolves around them and they don't understand that my roommate couldn't wait outside the apartment until after the movie was over. I guess he could have but I figured if I just went home and unlocked the door soon, then I would get back to them faster. Traffic didn't help my cause. I should have just paid the lock smith the $200 he was asking to go over and let my roommate in but it seemed like he was taking advantage of me at the time - I didn't like it and I let my pride get the better of me. But really...$200 to open a freaking room? He is obviously not celebrating the day if he is sitting at work taking calls so not like I am pulling him out of dinner. Bleh lesson learned. Next time don't fight supply and demand. PS. I might have also forgotten to give my gf her presents before I ran off so sure forgiveness would have been nicer but I wasn't exactly perfect in the situation. PPS. Showing up with flowers for everyone has the follow result on girls. All is happy again.

Is this normal? 3 of the 4 el34s have these purplish spots on both sides of the tubes.

Julie's younger one asked me to be her valentine a couple of days ago so yesterday I dressed up nice and went to pick her up from her school with flowers and a balloon. Initially she was a bit embarrassed but when she realized they were for her she had the biggest smile in the world and went around parading to her friends showing off. Two of the counsellor at the after school care started crying. Picked up the older one on the way home and started preparing their favorite dinner when I get a call from my roommate asking how far from the apartment I was. He had managed to lock himself out. I was an hour and 15 minutes away. The girls had planned to take me to a movie and give me presents afterwards but I ran out in a hurry thinking if I went and opened the door for him I might be able to make it back for the end of the movie and spend the rest of the evening with the girls. With my luck, I got stuck behind three different accidents on the turnpike and it took me 4.5 hours to get back up to them. By then they were all super angry and asleep and on top of it all, I was not welcome to stay the night so had to drive back yet another time. Took i95 back avoiding the accidents and got stuck behind another 2 on the way home. I need to study today so hopefully I can make it up to them on Sunday. 'twas a shitty day.

I haven't really had reason to complain against the amp other than the tubes (which isn't the amp's fault). Given how hard it is to test tubes without a tester, it can cause a little over exaggeration of the issues experienced (in my case for sure). I love this amp when I don't have issues with the tubes. Listening to it right now at low volumes and it sounds glorious. Might keep it after all and deal with the heat. We shall see. The winged c el34s are mighty nice.
-
Tube amps are a freaking emotional roller coaster I tell you. An hour on the phone with Mark, we were able to narrow it down to 4 super duper shitty tubes (ordered new but shitty nonetheless). He made me do some voltage checks and everything was rock solid which is why he was apprehensive in me sending it to him in the first place. He made me move tubes around and try the older ones mixed in with newer ones and finally found a combination which has slight hiss in both drivers but a buzz in the left. He offered to sell me some tried and tested tubes in the very amp I am using to ensure smooth and quiet operation. Going to go with that and try to return the shitty ones. Just glad the amp is in perfect condition.
-
I just got a new full set of tubes - winged c el 34s and jj 12ax7s and 12au7s and now I am getting very low volume from the left channel and a loud buzzing sound from the left channel as well. No pops though. The right channel has an audible buzz as well but not as loud as as the left. No pops out of the right channel either but the sound out of the right channel is normal. When setting bias, V1 and V2 shot past 100. Once I let the amp warm up, I reset it back to 35 but V1 kept rising until it got to 55 when I shut it off. I have emailed Mark to see if I can send it to him to take a look at. Anyone have any ideas or would be willing to look at it? The amp is not under warranty anymore so I expect the repair estimates to be astronomical from Rogue Audio.

Don't know. I am not opening the box until UPS comes to inspect it for Adorama's claim. Given how expensive the lens is, I am not taking any changes. -
Given their interest, I'll defer to Nate and Dan since they can potentially do a local sale. I propose making them do something silly though to decide who gets the amp. Sillier than rock paper scissors at least.
