Don't be afraid to try a Parasound 1000HD. According to Icarium they sound better than 1100hd unmodded, and are cheaper on the used market. Also they were, until just recently, more easy to find as well. Then there's the balanced 1500,1600 also. Go ahead and buy one of those as well, but if you do you're better off just selling it to me. I hear they suck...

Weird, it says here: SFD 2 MKII ..that the SFD2 mk2 has a discrete analog output stage I also have a question. Any idea if the SFD2 mk2 is switchable to 220 volts? Mine is at 120 right now, and there is an interested buyer in Russia.

So wait, does this mean that some of Lavry's designs are good then? I didn't like the DA10, but maybe some of his higher end DAC's are awesome. either that or the DAC D20400 was just a lucky break... On another note, I'm enjoying the SFD2 mk2 I bought recently. I can tell that it is far more high end than any headphones and amps that I currently own. It's like there's musicality hidden away, waiting to be given the chance to shine. I bet Stax would do it. For now, I'm gonna do a comparison with the 1100hd on my Mackies. I'll check back with y'all.

I didn't think the DA10 was bad either, I just didn't think it was at all good.

hmm good call, even though I read the OP I spaced out and thought it was you we were talking about.. ...I like the idea of choosing units that I have heard before and have a personal connection with. Otherwise I feel lost in the sea of other people's experiences/misinformation. And the seaweed always seems greener on the other side of the sea, harr harr/ For some reason I find it easier to hear people out about their thoughts on higher priced units. Maybe it's because in lower price ranges, there will likely be many compromises that must be made. For example, you could always go for something semi-standard, like NAD (the integrated amps, not your link), and yet there's still no guarantee that he'll be 110% stoked with its sound, and therefore in my opinion, not even close to satisfied. Call me old fashioned, but even with I think there is something to be said for sentimentality and its effect on our enjoyment and pride of ownership. I found some sweet 80's Akais that have 15' woofers, two 1' tweeters, one 2' midrange and adjustable crossovers for $60 in a second hand store. And I would way rather have those than that dinky NAD/PSB unit. Got any local second-hand audio stores? If you're going to buy blind you may as well rock out some seriously random shit. (my math being as follows: ) a minus negative b = positive cee that dope as rig I bought for hella cheEep talk about pride of ownership. If at possible, I would find a cd player that he really likes and then go from there and audition the rest of the units in a store. Unless he has his mind set on a power amp/speakers already. I say find the cd player/source first because it comes first and effectxx all that cometh afterrr.

So the Assemblage D2D-1 has a proprietary cable that feeds the Sonic Frontiers SFD-2 mk3. Does anyone know if it is also compatible with the Sonic Frontiers Processor 3? The Sonic Frontiers SFT-1 also has a proprietary cable that works with the first one, anyone know if it works with the second as well?

ok, why not just take your DAC and a laptop to a store and audition a system there. Source first, baby. ...if you dont have a laptop, borrow one from a friend maybe

not 40% off list price, but 40% off the regular price. $450 canadian dollars each.
-
good question, I saw them for 40% off. Maybe not exactly dirt cheap.
-
weird I've heard the opposite. And I've seen mk1's being sold on clearance for dirt cheap. Another thing to factor in is the sub for hr824's, the hrs120 is discontinued atm. An important thing to keep in mind is that an 8' woofer is very important for the monitor to properly reproduce the lower mid and bass frequencies. It will make a big difference, with or without a sub.

can somebody define for me the word transience...
dreamwhisper replied to Chekhonte's topic in Off Topic
transients is the correct spelling, and other than that I have no idea how to go about describing it my guess would be something to do with the attack, decay, sustain, release. -
So is there any doubt in the BHSE's ability to drive them well then? Was the thread abou this on the other site before the new BHSE came out? I remember reading that on paper the BH was designed with the 02 and not the H2 in mind. Not sure if the ability to tune (adjust bias, etc) was new with the BHSE or what, and if this has changed the playing field at all.

x2 (now that I own a 1100HD) I've owned the Lavry, Electrocompaniet ECD1, Bel Canto DAC3, Apogee MiniDAC The Electrocompaniet however did come close, and in the end is a matter or personal taste, but the rest got shredded
