Did the previous Desktop series run hot? The only problem I see is that if I got one of these I'd probably want to pop for the DPS, too, and that strikes me as pretty steep at $500.

Should have my BD-83 this week as it's in FedEx's hands right now. Not 100% sure, but think they did add DVD-A support in firmware for this first batch, which is nice.

Yep. That's pretty much the only thing that kept me from getting the previous Balanced Desktop amp. Will be interested to hear what else has changed to make it "Ultra".

The page on the new Ultra DAC would appear to establish that a companion amp is also on the way. Can anyone with better eyes than me make out what the leftmost switch is labeled? If it's indeed "Rear Outputs", I'm going to do a little happy dance!

I enjoyed the SR-404s at the meet and, to me, they didn't seem as lean as they are sometimes said to be.

I had a great time at the meet and it was really nice to be able to put faces to some of the familiar names. Lambda Sigs off what I think the guy said was a KG TT? Another big thumbs up. After a couple of hours, I was ready to immediately cancel my HD800 order and start trawling for a stat rig, but a wise Monkey talked me down from the ledge. Went and listened to some HP1000s and vintage RS-1s off Ari's setup until I felt better.
