  1. Sorry to hear and good luck, Brent.
  2. Cool news, I'll be interested in impressions from Birgir/whoever gets one. IMO this is the ugliest black Lambda to date, though.
  3. QDB: Quote #753599
  4. Now that's what I call burn-in.
  5. The second and third and Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini are all ridicu-awesome. I also really like the 4th concerto.
  6. The Lambda Pro does indeed sound quite close to the NB Lambda, with a slightly exaggerated but also more extended bass and treble that you wouldn't otherwise spot unless you had a NB Lambda to compare. The difference in extension wasn't too big in my opinion, between the NB and Pro, though I haven't heard either in awhile.
  7. I don't remember any midrange shouting either, but I'll have to give it a listen again. Wasn't too fond of it the first time I heard it... :/ That new Lambda is just a 404LE with a slightly different arc assembly that is nowhere near as nice as the 4070's. Maybe there are some improvements on the inside...
  8. One of them was me.
  9. It has nothing to do with age, iirc it's around the 2-3kHz range so no way a part of age-induced hearing loss of HF. And cool, I might just take you up on that offer, Dusty. Always curious.
  10. Thanks for publishing the results of our findings. And I think Ultrasones may be the main weakness of any serious audio enthusiast, the effects are just amplified through the super powers gained from the scotch. That is a shit sounding 'phone right there, can't imagine how the lower end ones sound. And why they made a $1500 supraaural portable is beyond me.
  11. The baffle is a solid piece of metal (don't know what, is it steel?), which is held down to the plastic chassis by four screws, and the pads are glued on the other side. So basically the energy goes to the entire headphone. Edit: This is assuming 404 works same way as vintage Lambdas And I say meh to 404 etch.
  12. Come on Scott, we proved empirically that scotch is the breakfast of champions.
  13. Ah yes, this old debate. But it's true, HD600 > HD650.
  14. Mmm, Dark Lord... Finished two weeks ago, so none until the 30th.
  15. I think I have some East-Asian blood somewhere in me too. Watched some youtube videos on hair teasing and... that's probably not going to work. Probably just going to let it grow out for another month or so (or if it starts looking like pubes, whichever comes first) and then decide where to go from there.
  16. Yeah, drill big holes in the cups and put in a mesh grille, take out the drivers and put in some Stax drivers, replace the cable with a ribbon cable, and it might actually sound good.
  17. What do you have the range set to? Yeah I thought the crappy meters measure by peak voltages, not peak to peak, but the numbers HDen was getting would make sense if it were measuring peak to peak. Lazy/good way to fix problem: just get an auto-ranger that measures true RMS.
  18. Well I agree that the meter sucks, but I don't think V~200 should have been plenty, specifically because the meter sucks. It's probably not true RMS so I'm guessing it's measuring peak to peak voltages and multiplying by 1/sqrt(2)/2. 200V/sqrt(2)/2 = 70.7V.
  19. Needs moar opamps! HeadWize - Project: A Precision Preamplifier-Power Amplifier System with Natural Crossfeed Processing by Jan Meier
  20. I can help with that. Just saying.
  21. Going to see what happens when I leave my chin hair untrimmed. Hoping for something close to a metal beard, but that's very unlikely. It will probably just end up looking like a couple of pubes growing out of my chin. Just saying.
