Arrau - Beethoven Concertos 4 and 5
-
It's true. And uh.. here's the opposite of something like Oistrakh playing Brahms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZkMvwwLfhw
-
I used some insulating washers so now they are operating like a normal dipole. It may be interesting to see what happens when they are grounded though. Yeah I was going to see if there was anything better since the Koss pads don't seem too great. But then again they are $5.
-
Hm, perhaps oblong wasn't the right word. But they're not oval-shaped, definitely not circle or rectangular shaped, but kind of.. in between, in sort of an ear shape. Kind of like this (ESP9): This is the ESP6 fitted with new Koss pads: I wish I could find my camera so I could just take pics...
-
Now that I've got them working, I need new pads for them. Seems like most people order whatever new replacements from Koss (that are no longer liquid filled) but just wondering is there a better alternative? The earpads need to be massive and oblong, O2 pads don't fit.

I was wondering what the hell I did wrong, since I was getting the correct continuities from the wires to the plug. Until I measured between the pins and discovered oh shit, L- and R- are tied together. I measured the chassis and sure enough L- and R- were connected through the chassis.

Yep that's the whole point of bass reflex, to lower the resonant frequency of the system, where fs is the resonant frequency of the driver in air/unsealed and fc is the resonant frequency in a sealed and tuned cabinet. It gets more complicated than that, read this for a basic understanding: Speaker Box Calculations I highly highly doubt it goes below 30Hz though.

Took out the PCBs, stripped the outer insulation off a ESP-950 extension cable so I could ram it up the strain relief, cut off the female end and attached it to the male plug, soldered wires onto the wires that go through the headband, used the hex nuts to hold the wires to the posts connected to the appropriate parts of the drivers, hammered and plier'd out the center pin on an Amphenol plug, made the 950 to pro bias Stax adapter, added thick felt to the backs of the cups, screwed and put everything back together again. After plugging into SRD-7/SB found out I didn't wire the adapter correctly FFFFUUUUUUUU. Will fix tomorrow, almost done.

Good enough for me, I'm not going to buy a T1 for a couple weeks and then have to sell it just to satisfy a dickhead like you.
-
Funny stuff, I also decided to listen to some solo piano stuff today. Currently, Gilels Brahms Concertos 1 and 2
-
Because my mediocre sounding headphones sound better than the T1. They are mediocre relative to my instrument.
-
Aw those sites are beautiful, just what I needed. Much thanks. And I have the transistor bits covered since I had to buy textbooks for those.
-
Finally got the Placid BP working lulz (not that I tried to get it working before today), and did more research on tubes. Specifically cascodes, more on mu and rp and appropriate gain, input, and output resistance equations. Practiced a bunch. Hopefully will figure out a way to cram a fricking 6 conductor Koss cable into the ESP6 strain relief which is only meant to hold 4 wires. May just have to cut out the strain relief completely.

Merry birthday and happy Xmas

Cool, I'm too cheap to pay for a subscription but there's definitely some good articles from that site. There's of course a lot of good reading at diyaudio and here actually. But I've been meaning to piece together what the heck a tube is for ages and haven't gotten around to it until a few days ago. Now I get basic stuff like the construction of a triode and how it works, common cathode/grid/anode configurations, a couple of different phase splitter designs, etc. Soon I might even work my way up to reading (and understanding) stuff on tubecad. But yeah, you can always make a thread here (not here here, but.. on HC).
-
Hell yeah, that'd be cool. Especially if I can't make it to the next meet. And even though you said you already played some of the Fiorillo, I just found my copy and played through a few and they are nice.
-
I actually bought a copy of the Fiorillo a few years ago but never used it. I'm going to go look for it and will let you know how it is when I find it.
-
I just youtubed and googled it and found nothing, and I never used the Dont etude book so don't know what it sounds like. In fact I've been pretty lax about etudes too, only ever learned Kreutzer 42 studies, Rode caprices, and then moved straight onto Paganini caprices. Before I started with Kreutzer I learned some beginner stuff from some shady russian scans from my russian teacher. Cool that you're getting back into it, hopefully it gives you enjoyment for many years to come.. You inspired me to practice some Flesch today. My constant battle with intonation may soon come to an end.
-
No I haven't, I'm not really as into doing the fundamentals as I should be... and Flesch is hard enough as it is. What are you doing for etudes?
-
From what I understand, it's basically trying to find a good technique to calculate THD and IMD using a differential pair tube triode setup. And the author finds that Fourier series is better than Taylor series expansion and gives the relevant formulae to solve for THD and IMD. I'm reading up on everything on how tubes work from the ground up and will re-read the article after that.

Not bad, but be angrier next time, and/or post a funny pic.

Yeah uh, just kidding. The real foam is on the other side, and just like the foam in the ESP10. Nasty nasty stuff. Now I'm trying to trace through the PCB circuit of the ESP6A which seems to be much more complex than the ESP6. Also I'm 90% sure they really did cut out napkins to use for damping, as there are some flower designs on one side that look a lot like they came from napkins. The ESP10 has Kleenex type tissue paper.
