  1. Soldered up PIC board:
  2. I like the first one the best. Love the vivid purple. Thanks for the advice. Currently using a really old Panasonic Lumix which frankly doesn't take good pics and really sucks with low lighting.
  3. True, I was hoping it could be for used for low voltage higher current stuff too. I guess I'll need to buy a separate 50ishV supply for that. Edit: Didn't read above. I may be able to procure two, if you really want one.
  4. Cool, that's what I figured. Of course it only goes up to 120mA or something for the 0-400VDC, and I dunno if I'll be able to easily find replacement tubes but it's $10. I'll probably get it.
  5. Haven't bought (yet?) but do you guys think it's a good idea to buy a tubed bench supply which has 0-400VDC B+ output, I think a 0-100V C- output, and two 6.3VAC outputs? $10
  6. Oh. Yeah, it's generally a lot harder to fabricate an IC than a PCB, but I technically have access to a fab lab and wanted to try it out.
  7. Why wouldn't I want to do a VLSI layout with tools, open source or otherwise? And why should any of my 4000 other posts have to provide clues to any of my other 4000 posts?
  8. 90% (okay, number pulled out of my ass but I'm pretty sure I'm close) of audio companies put out specs that are better than they actually measure, and sometimes by a lot. It's kind of chicken-and-egg-y, in that once one starts posting really great specs that are false and get away with it, it makes the others look worse so they inflate their numbers as well and pretty soon there's an unwritten agreement to post false specs, sometimes without even measuring their designs. Well, some people also just kind of make the specs really vague so they can't really be proven wrong, and even Zanden puts up "Specifications subject to change without notice." on their site.
  9. Hope you are having a good one. And good luck with Tough Mudder.
  10. Is this the same board that got fried twice? I know you don't want to hear this but if it were me I'd repopulate on a new PCB since it was working before it got fried so that means there shouldn't be any errors in the PCB, pre-fry. And since the positive and negative rails are basically the same, other than deriving the bias from the positive rail, if you can't spot the problem on sight it may take a really long time. If you don't want to go that route, maybe post up some pics?
  11. What exactly are you having trouble with now? Still the negative rail?
  12. Nice, both things I would like to explore in the future. Have done charcoal, oil pastels, watercolor, and lightly dabbed into oil painting before I quit. Wish I kept on but was busy, and still am.
  13. Happy birthday. What was the art medium?
  14. Things went a lot better after I went through and liberally installed a metric arseload of packages for Cygwin. I tried installing all of them but after 3GB and counting I stopped. CMOS Inverter:

  16. Do an Office Space on the old GPU. Might not be big enough to give any real satisfaction, though.
  17. Finally worked out how to properly connect to the servers and tapped the right folder but apparently am not specifying enough for my command line initialization after that. Tried installing Cygwin to run MAGIC on Windows but it's not playing nice either. I love when there is never enough documentation or an intuitive step by step process to getting these things to work. About to slam head into wall.
  18. My family is going on a trip soon and we need a good P&S, is the Canon S95 still the best? And how is the Nikon S8100, which is a lot cheaper?
  19. I'm trying to learn MAGIC which seems to be the most popular open source VLSI layout program. Feel free to post anything relating to VLSI layout in this thread, perhaps something you bring up will be of use to me and others. Currently wondering if there are any other good programs, open source or not, and if there is something more GUI than command line based. I'm currently trying to run MAGIC off an SSH connection to my school's Unix server and it's giving me troubles so I'm going to go home and try it or just install MAGIC on my computer. Any good tutorials or examples would be nice as well, I'm currently following a set of tutorials by John Ousterhout.
  20. Damn, only almost 10% distortion on the T5p? That's nowhere near Duggeh's phonodome creation. Beyer needs to step up its game.
  21. Oh shit I completely forgot about this. Not going either.
