  1. Get these instead http://www.moon-audio.com/fostex-th500rp.html
  2. Just (hopefully) bought all the parts needed to build the KGITSOCH minus the LSJ74s which go for a mind-numbing ~$6 a pop in sets of 8 at diyaudio, and the case which I probably won't get for a long time. Any of you buy the LSJ74s and have good success with matching?
  3. I got the multi amp boards from Birgir, marked multi amp rev 1.0. After looking at my pcbs, other than a lot of differing parts values on the silkscreen compared to the schematic, I think it's basically the production board design except there's a missing 10k resistor by the servo, there are spots for the 4.7uf decoupling caps, and r21/r25 are combined into a single 20k resistor. I can't really tell what the 10k is connected to from your pic, could you tell me? Edit: Nevermind, found it. It's connected in between r21 and r25. May have to offboard those resistors.
  4. Thanks anyway, Colin! Kerry just hand delivered a pair of boards to me, what a super nice guy. Now I have attenuator boards and Multi Amp boards, and can breadboard the SE to bal converter. I have an idea of what microprocessor kit to use, and will probably stick to the 4D systems touchscreen that Max had some success with. The funny thing about all this is, I have no need for a preamp since I don't have any speakers.
  5. Thanks for the lead! I'll shoot him an email later tonight
  6. If no one else wants to do it (someone please do!), I could start looking into the microcontroller stuff in a couple weeks. Anyone want to sell me a pair of KG attenuator boards for testing, either populated or unpopulated? Also is 3.2" touchscreen big enough?
  7. The Chaconne was actually originally written for violin as the last movement of the Partita in D minor. Would personally recommend Milstein or Szeryng if you want to hear it on violin. I actually recently played it for a couple of friends from memory after having not practiced it for over half a year and having not practiced in general for a couple months (very slow recovery from hand injury), which was surprising. Listening to those recordings of the Ravel and Beethoven Emperor for the first time, the second movements in particular, was earth-shattering for me and forever changed not only my musical perspective but on life in general. I still remember listening late at night over and over the first few weeks after discovering them, and the goosebumps that ran all over my body. Music shouldn't be measured on or categorized by its level of "seriousness" as much as it should its ability to capture the human condition and captivate its soul (IMO).
  8. I've never grouped Heifetz and Beethoven together, I think he's more of a Brahms and Prokofiev 2 kind of guy. If you want to listen to some really magical Beethoven, try Schnabel or Radu Lupu, and for a refreshingly different perspective, Glenn Gould. I'd be interested in hearing your opinion of his last Emperor performance with the Toronto Symphony (it's on youtube). To add one to the list, Michelangeli's Ravel/Rach 4.
  9. Thanks guys, will check out. Colin, what was the name of the place where we had steak tartare again? I have the worst memory when it comes to names.
  10. Which places, Dusty?
  11. My dy294 doesn't seem to be able to measure Vbr past ~1398V, which my 2SC4686As seem to exceed since they all read the same value.
  12. Is there a reason why EC isn't as popular anymore? I've been out of the loop for a few years now, mainly only interested in DIY stuff anyway. Anyone want to be the guinea pig and build a headphone amp version of DynaFET, with the first two stages from the Multi Amp or original Dynalo followed by diamond buffers into a single pair of output FETs?
  13. Nvm found another source.
  14. Anyone want to split an order of 50 (25 each) 2SK216 at Bdent? Or if there's another, we can split 51 across three people (17 each). If not, I'm probably just going to order 25 for myself. Hope you guys hear back soon about the boards/chassis.
  15. Thanks for the info and screenshots. Experiencing vanilla android on the Nexus 4, I didn't feel the need to root and install ROMs for the first time (despite some niggles here and there), and am kind of hoping I won't have to do so anymore even on carrier phones. Probably very wishful thinking on my part. I'm going to wait until Google comes out with the next Nexus before making a final decision on my next phone.
  16. Just curious, what made you choose the G3 over the S5 and One M8?
  17. Did some of the magic smoke seep out?
  18. What do you think about cutting holes in the top plate for the 10m90s heatsinks as well as the tubes and populating everything else on the board on the bottom side, then putting the PS on the bottom but making sure the pass FET sinks aren't directly underneath the amp boards?
  19. I bought some crappy chinese things and one of them is a dud. Never goes above 7.6V and can't take/hold a charge. Would not recommend.
  20. I'm doing fully SS, which is going to make things simpler. No heaters, smaller umbilicals/less wiring, less casework, the output EL34s will be replaced by the Cree 1.7kV unit spritzer posted, and the output CCSes will also use modern sand and be less complicated. There are further simplications like replacing the 2SC3381 current mirrors in the servo with MPSA42 but I bought 2SC3381s anyway and unless they test as counterfeit I will use them. Things are still in the planning stage so there might be more changes than these.
  21. Thanks Marc and George! I'm going to need around 70 for my SS T2 (T2SS?) build so probably a lot more than you can spare, but thanks anyway for offering. Dock date for Future says 9/25 which is in 3 months but I'm going to be pretty busy until then anyway and I need a bit more time to plan out the build.
  22. After doing some further planning I think I can get away with using 4170G washers but anyone know a good source for 4171G? No one seems to have any in stock.
