Another interesting and relevant post is from a recent Tyll post: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/paper-review-effects-mp3-compression-perceived-emotional-characteristics-musical-instruments#FGmflv70J55LFrjL.97 As usual, the scientists who wrote the paper have no idea what they are talking about, but Tyll and some of the comments on the page get more to the crux of the point. That is to say, red book and even lossy versions of red book up until a reasonable point, are NOT the bottleneck to good sound. There's so much other shit that people can and do get wrong that exceeding 16/44 is pretty laughable on a list of things to improve on audio. Remastering or swapping headphones/speakers offers infinitely more change in sound than going from 16/44 to 24/96.

And they're going to release a fixed better version in 6 months (quality control and reliability issues abound in the first version) and not allow the customers to "upgrade" from v1 to v2. Yes we are well acquainted with the hifiman business model by now.

Do the super dupont mod or similar on your hd800, then there's no eq necessary

Very beautiful! Do you have a pair of Stax SR-3 to complete the vintage? I would replace the caps and diodes first, instead of waiting for something to fail. If there are tantalum caps across rails, they could fail as a short and take some stuff with them, along with turning into a nice toasty fireball.

All of the Lampizator lemmings post exactly the same things, it's pretty scary. Are you all just robots or in on some sort of Ponzi scheme?

I wonder if King Harald "Blåtand" Gormsson had blueteeth. Don't know much about Scandinavia and Norse mythology (not the Marvel bastardization), which should be rectified now that everyone on HC has their own Yggdrasil! Mind was blown at below pic

I may have bought the last Pro 5000 in stock because now it says "requires additional processing time" Bluetooth on a toothbrush, what a time to be alive

If you read enough HC posts you would know that once you go Stax you never go bax, unless you are Fang Bian. No pesky boxed dynamic woofer to get in the way of the electrostatic goodness, either. Pars isn't going to be happy about your spelling of Parsifal.

It's been fun watching them become the "supervillains" of the league, but all the blowing a 3-1 lead jokes are getting a bit old and now there's more fuel added to the fire from yesterday's game, blowing a 14 pt lead with another Kyrie game winner yesterday. Since the Lakers have been injured for the past month and completely destroyed any playoff chances, I just want to fast forward to the Warriors Cavs finals rematch.

Funny how he tries to discredit (?) Stax for "sounding like you're in heaven" when they made the DAC Talent that used... guess what? That's right, PCM63s. Has he even heard or does he know anything about pre-bankruptcy Stax? Edit: I would love to see Fang try to get in a fist fight with Birgir.

As per this app note, put ferrite bead as close to gate as possible and leave the series resistor in. https://toshiba.semicon-storage.com/info/docget.jsp?did=13416 More specifics: http://www.microsemi.com/document-portal/doc_view/14693-eliminating-parasitic-oscillation-between-parallel-mosfets You could also try messing with compensation caps like the 5pf across the global feedback resistors and putting them in other places. Again, I'm not sure how much of these things you already tried.

Happy birthday! Please don't go bike riding today.

I clearly haven't read as deeply into those threads or what you did, but did you also try only using a single pair of output devices, and then try the large gate stopper resistor? Maybe you can narrow down the problem, whether it's individual FET problems or layout or whatever else. Totally understand if you already exhausted all options and don't want to deal with it anymore. I know there have been a decent number of boards bought in group buys over the years, but it's strange that so far there hasn't been a report of a working build. Maybe they exist but I haven't seen any posts about it. I've got a few of those FETs laying around, so it might be nice to explore sometime in the future.

Did you ever end up trying high resistance gate stoppers on the fets like from the T2 thread (500-750 ohm)?

Continuation of R2R DAC Discussion From Stax Thread
mypasswordis replied to Sechtdamon's topic in Home Source Components
Total dac uses 0.01% foil resistors. Best version of Soekris uses 0.01 resistors also, but not foil I believe. These are still much worse than laser trimming on a single substrate can do, though I'm not sure the exact amounts. I would guess at least a factor of 2 (edit: i meant order of magnitude) better. What is more important than absolute linearity errors after a certain point is high monotonicity. -

Hm, am I missing something here? This just seems like a less complete/more raw version of Soekris DAC with lower precision resistors... the Soekris already has sign magnitude and programmable filter chip, and with FIFO/reclocking. Same 24 bit, 3.072MHz oversampling as well. I believe they solved the DC output problem already as well so it can be DC coupled without blowing up your stuff. Edit: Hm, maybe it's for people who want to do it themselves (DIT?) Looking forward to see how people use these modules. -
^Looks like I will be spending a little more time at the event than previously expected, thanks. You can get to the subway directly (through the AirTrain) from JFK, but it's a bit farther than LGA. You would have to take a short bus ride to get to a subway station from LGA, or just take a taxi as was mentioned.
