  1. Anyone following the Knicks at all? They've been a dumpster fire for years but this season has been nothing but crazy drama and horrible losses. Recently Derrick Rose went completely MIA for a game, Phil has been trying his hardest to trade Melo while throwing a lot of shade, and now Oakley got into a fight with security at MSG and is now banned by Dolan.
  2. Do you fight over who gets which side of the bed? That definitely rubs them the wrong way.
  3. Nice, enjoy! Need to try fried chicken livers sometime but had fried oysters among other things on CNY
  4. Really nice guy for sure. He mentioned something about CJ LA '09 I think... don't think I remember him from Chicago but there's a couple things I don't remember firsthand about that one.
  5. A guy I met at the meet who some people already know named Dave Lederman (sp?), forgot his HF handle, mentioned Porcupine Tree. We were talking about them for awhile and then he mentioned his favorite band is Gentle Giant, so I'm checking them out now.
  6. Hope everything gets fixed soon, Adam!
  7. In the spirit of getting things no one has heard of, just got a Denon DA500 on the cheap. It completes my BB trifecta of PCM63/1702/1704 DACs and also hearkens back to HC circa 2008 This thread is very, very bad
  8. Cool, once/if I find my EP5 I'll take a look inside
  9. I bought the whole damn Superex line from some dude in the Bronx a few years ago. Makes sense since superex was located in Yonkers. I don't remember which one the EP-5 was offhand, is it the huge hybrid with dynamic driver? Man, there's so many headphones I've bought and lost track of over the years. You're reminding me that I technically have two pep-79s or whatever they're called (the square ones you posted a long time ago and liked so I found my own pair). No idea where the first pair went
  10. kom je vandaan Spuyten Duyvil van zondag?
  11. I forgot to add. The AP guy said I can give him a list of all the headphones I want measurements of, and whatever he has he will send to me. Anyone desperately want something in particular? I currently have HE1000 v2, LCD-4, Utopia, and my 2 vintage headphones. When we were there we asked Fang for the Edition 6 to measure but he said all the units he brought to the show were prototypes, so that's not an option.
  12. Happy birthday!
  13. Agree with everyone above. I'm probably never going to do a real write-up, so just going to post a lazy personal ranking from top to bottom of the non-Stax headphones I heard, which is not many because I spent most of the time in the AP room. Sony MDR-Z1R - pretty damn good, a bit too much bass at times but very easy to EQ that down a few dB Hifiman HE1000 v2 - surprisingly good, I liked it better than the Shangri La. But then again, I liked everything better than the Shangri La. Not gonna go into the whole build quality thing again Focal Utopia - there's a bit of an upper mid to lower treble peak that makes things sound "forward" (or ear stabby depending on your view), and it's slightly bass light. Stax usually has a small bump in the upper mid/lower treble region but the electrostat treble is smoother than dynamics which makes it less offensive Sonoma Electrostats - there's a lot of weird stuff going on as has been discussed before. Single-stator driver, converting D to A to A to D to D to A again because of DSP EQ, etc etc, but somehow it didn't sound too bad in the end IMO. Nothing to write home about though MrSpeakers Ether something or other - Not too bad but I did the hand dipole test (waving my hands in front of the back grilles) and strangely did not hear any change in sound. The "open" version doesn't seem to be as open as you would think... maybe there's a lot of acoustic damping. Audeze LCD-4 - typical underdamped ortho sound. Bloated bass and everything else kind of hazy, and the large dip in the treble makes it sound a bit sleepy as well. Would be interested to see what happens with some damping Hifiman Shangri La - the first one I heard was so damn bad, I thought it might be broken so I gave it a second chance the second day. I compared both Shangri Las connected to the 300B amp Sunday and one of them was noticeably brighter than the other so the manufacturing process isn't great. Neither of them was as bad as what I heard on the first day, but probably around HD600/650 level. I would recommend saving the $49,700
  14. Cheers!
  15. We know you're Al's legal counsel and some of the things uttered yesterday could not and should not be repeated ever again, but your advice is the only I'm ever taking to heart. If I'm still in the city next time you visit, we'll find a bar with nicer views.
  16. Very blurry pic of the only bar in the city without a tv, replaced by red hat stinkeye douche, can't spare a single cig camo douche, and bartender douchette
  17. They are absolutely not useless without the original adapter. My Stax Lambda Sig recabled ECR500 works just fine. Please don't destroy one of the only ECR600s in existence.
  18. I accidentally spent the vast majority of my time at the meet in the Audio Precision room. Got some juicy measurements because I walked in with my vintage headphones as they were trying to measure various flagships. The measurement pdf they gave me for the ECR500 was the wrong one with messed up data, so I emailed them and they said their test gear was already being shipped back to Oregon so they'll send me the right pdf in a week, and then I'll post the full set here. Will post listening impressions later.
  19. We gave her a nickname too: Anna banana
  20. Yo I need to get back into your room to get my jacket and maybe the booze, have you guys already left?
  21. Audio precision is measuring the focal utopias right now if anyone wants to see
  22. I knew something was missing from this meet: hard liquor. When Al and JP wake up I'm coming over with the Dudognon.
  23. I might have a bottle or two of cognac. That's basically like beer, right?
  24. New Yorkers aren't typically awake until at least 10 after a Saturday "night" out, and they need a little time to prepare for Sunday's bottomless brunch. People here can somehow party until the sun comes up. Have you ever had a bacon-flavoured Bloody Mary? I went to a bacon-themed beerfest a couple years ago and there was a stereotypical "mixologist" with a huge beard churning them out. I ended up drinking three because I went with two friends who hated theirs on first sip. There were also deviled eggs with bacon, a whole roasted pig, and yes, bacon beer.
