The Joshua Redman/Brad Meldau concert I attended a long time ago was a pretty transformative experience The part leading up to those chords sounds very Ravel-like, and I believe the harmonization is something like a F# half diminished seventh with a dissonant escape tone that resolves down, then cadences to a first inversion minor C# triad in which the E becomes the third? Try it out

Glare, grain, and sterility are the trifecta of a well-lived life.

Happy birthday! Have a great one

Wow that's bad.... NoNoNoNoNoNo continues to haunt from the proverbial grave. I'm not even sure pcx will be able to fix that clusterfuck but that would be the way to go if you ever want to let go of it for more than 0 dollars. Or just return it to the seller

I heard replacing the plankton with some krill will make things more copacetic.

Since you want to go to Dusty level pedantry, I did some googling http://www.head-fi.org/t/534027/hd800-price-hike So there was a price hike and decrease at some point, but not the one I was thinking of
-
Ah, that's probably what I'm (mis)remembering then, the time right before Sennheiser clamped down on resale price. Well, the good news is you can get an HD800 for cheap now and mod it to your liking (t-shirt mods and plankton notwithstanding)
-
They started out at $1k, then Sennheiser realized they could get more money for them since nothing else in production was as good at the time so they increased it. Then everybody started bitching about the treble spike so they made the HD800S and dropped the HD800 price back down to $1k. The only difference between them acoustically is the added Helmholtz resonator to decrease the spike, and more bass distortion to make it sound warmer

Cool (or rather, hot?)! What DAC did you put this in and how does it sound? Any reason going discrete for the Sallen-Key? Also, thoughts on 3rd order GIC filter like in the pcm1704 datasheet? Most DACs seem to stick with the standard SK opamp
-
^ Hate when that happens, or when it's the wrong CD because I was too lazy to put it in the right case the last time.

Wow that was fast. Thanks, good sir. Hope you're doing well. edit: my phone is S7 edge

I just got a notification to update my OS to Nougat. I don't follow any of this stuff anymore, so anyone know if I should do it? Usually upgrades make things worse in my experience, but it's balanced by the fact that the damn update popup appears every now and then.

Having a bad day so this is up next on repeat

OTL and orthos don't mix

Happy birthday!

Oops, missed your post Yeah, interesting indeed. Bogut and D Will to Cavs and Matt Barnes back to GSW, and first back to back GSW loss in 2 years

That's the stereotypical underdamped ortho sound, if you're lucky. The bass monsters and minimal bass orthos (stock) tend to be much harder to deal with, but then again a simple change in pads can easily change a headphone from bass monster to bass light. IIRC there isn't a lot of space to work with in the T20v1 so first try damping with a layer of dense felt behind the driver, and have another layer of felt lining the earcups. Then try pad rolling, if you have any that fit. The Concept CE-H is a better implementation of the T20v1 drivers and the T40v1 is better than the T40RPv2 IMO but maybe you can find some good pads that will change everything. The T10 is also a good little headphone that comes almost perfectly damped stock.
-
I would need to check my T40v1 but from what I remember this is one ortho that is already pretty close to as well-damped as the setup will allow, at least moreso than T20v2. I assume you removed the foam puck over the drivers? The main problem with these is the earpads don't seem to last as long as the T20v2s so the bass can leak out. I would try pad rolling first and then put in a layer of felt tucked between the driver and back foam if necessary. Never owned a HP-2.

Just googled and indeed, there was a lawsuit filed. Will be interesting to see if there will be any litigation this time around... the Energy speaker incident seemed to have been settled out of court. At least Monoprice didn't copy the Fazor magnet structure, which the Audeze website still says is patent pending even though they've been using it for years... The headband is definitely taken straight from HFM which was in turn "inspired by" Stax. Initial reports about build quality are decent (especially for $300) except for issues with the cable connectors so hopefully they will resolve that issue in the next batch, if there is one. Also hopefully the drivers are more reliable than their Audeze and HFM counterparts.

Skin flutes don't count! I like the fact that you can still buy goat intestines to use as strings in 2017.

So apparently monoprice cloned the Audeze LCD-2 and is selling them for $300 Left is LCD-2 and right is M1060 Released last week and monoprice website says it's out of stock until mid-April
