All pre-conceived notions aside, I think it looks fairly well-built on the outside. I'll be interested in the internal pics. I don't get why he put the output of the power supply and the input to the amp on opposite sides, though.

YAMAHA ORTHODYNAMIC HEADPHONES HP-2 - eBay (item 260383844046 end time Mar-31-09 11:49:35 PDT)

Birgir, nice of you. HeadphoneAddict, do you think listening through the SRD box will be better than through the GES? Just curious.
-
Thanks for the info. You could try swapping the damping layers from your Pro to your normal bias just for kicks (careful handling it, of course). I think I'm done with Lambdas now, though, since I still have the half a Lambda and can swap arc assemblies with the Pro. Well, obviously I am still in need of an arc assembly... again. If I ever get another pair of headphones (not counting some cheap orthos), it will probably end up being the ESP950.

I ended up liking the T20v2 better than the T50RP, FWIW. Sounds more natural and is easier to get the treble up. Downsides are that it's supraaural with not too much soundstage.

I finally caught up with season 5. The fight between Andy and Dwight was pretty epic and Angela is now definitely the freakiest person on the show. Yes, freakier than Creed. I think the beginning of the season was pretty weak but it got better.

If you have some smeg on your chest and on you know it, clap your hands If you have some smeg on your ears and you know it, clap your hands If you have some smeg and you know it, your face will surely show it ... I don't know where I was going with this.

Really? The first two have bad sexual innuendo in almost every one of their songs which makes them seem desperate and sex-crazed, they both have weird ways of singing, and I don't think I even need to explain Elvis Costello's weird voice and weird dancing. I definitely prefer weird to just plain bad, though, so I guess that's what makes me listen to them from time to time. A good example of weird done good is Talking Heads.

I agree on buying a good humidor with a good hygrometer. I also agree that microwaving is probably not a good idea. Even if something terrible didn't happen like nuking, I think some of the flavor and nuance would be lost in the microwaving. And which reminds me, I haven't smoked a cigar in awhile. I need to get on that.

Nah, I'm way younger than you, Duggeh. Happy 50th birthday, Gary!

Yeah, I'd love to live near him. Ah, all the amps I want to build, sitting on one table... You should post impressions/comparisons, though, since my wallet can't take that kind of abuse.
-
If only I lived near you guys.. sounds like a cool micro meet.

Might have something to do with how much current the wallwart can put out? Or the quality of the transformer? Sorry, I'm not giving up.
-
NoNoNoNoNoNo, do you think the wallwart AC power supply might be a source of bottlenecking for the CTH?
-
Bjork, Regina Spektor, Elvis Costello, some others I'm forgetting at the moment.

I just thought I'd pass along info about a meet happening in my area that's coming up pretty soon, in case anyone on here didn't know about it and is itching to try some gear and meet some people. I'm still not 100% sure I can make it but I'm pretty sure I can. You should replace the tweeters with some SFIs. And hey Carl, you're back! I'll send you a PM about pricing and hopefully we can work something out.
-
Ooh, highly highly tempting indeed. Thanks for asking! And you should go for the Gamma Pro drivers, I'm curious what kind of frankenphone you'd create. Could you ask him how much one SR-X would be? And how much the Gamma Pro with the blown driver would be? I could try to PM him but I don't know if/when he'd respond. You would think that, but I think > 90% of closed headphones were made without a thought toward minimizing reflections. My AKG K340 (not even fully closed) and my Fostex T40v1 both bug me because of the closed effect I hear. My T40 only started bugging me after I got the electrostatic Floats, though.

If you want crazy bass from your Lambda Pros, take out the yellow mineral wool damping. Might as well try it, since you also need to open up to check and resolder the connections on the failing side.
-
Good to know that he's still keeping up the headphone hobby, though I don't see why he has to "cut back" by completely ceasing to post. I wouldn't mind if next time you went over you asked him if he had any spare SR-3 or SR-5 frames he wanted to sell. I wouldn't mind if you didn't, either. I'm probably going to end up overpaying for a working set sometime in the near future. The insanity just gets to me, every time I think about the fact that I sold my Lambdas for a pair of drivers that just sit there.
-
I want to avoid the SR-X frame as much as possible since there's a lot of complaints of discomfort due to the headband and the supraaural pads and I would prefer the comfiness of SR-3/5 pads. Otherwise I will definitely look to that as an option. Where is Carl, anyway? Haven't seen him post in forever.
-
Ah, sorry. If you were considering the Pro 4AAAAAAAA, I'm not sure how well Grado drivers will fare in closed headphones since they're meant to be in the opposite. Which drivers are they?
-
That was probably a joke, but the Alpha Pro drivers are really small, and the Pro 4AAAAAAAAAA is obviously really big. And ugly. And closed. And has too many As. And has weird nipples on the bottom.
-
I'll trade you tree fitty for them.
-
In other news, people need to stop bidding up SR-3s to crazy amounts so I can get one for cheap and swap out the drivers. Damn, these Alpha Pro drivers have been sitting here with nothing to do for so long and it's making me crazy. Anyone have any ideas for other good donor frames?
