Deerfield Beach 08/17/09 Meet Impressions
mypasswordis replied to crappyjones123's topic in Meet Impressions
For shame. -
I was actually referring to the fact that even if you get a good fit, the pads don't seal in the bass particularly well, based on what's been said and my experience with velours. But yeah, if we're modifying heads, might as well just hook up some wires and fire some electrical impulses directly to the auditory handling part of the brain for direct injection of music.
-
First couple of things I'd do would be to put a layer of felt on the backs of the insides of the cups, find better sealing pads, put in the foam and maybe damp the driver with another layer of felt (I think it comes with one stock?). First thing I'd do if I were to actually buy an Audeze is just buy the drivers and figure out a donor frame myself, like Colin said.
-
Would you cut out the baffle like Smeggy did with his transplants? I don't see how you could only transplant the drivers.
-
Yeah okay, I see why it didn't come to fruition now. That's O2+717 territory right there.
-
I guess he couldn't convince people it wouldn't break necks... Nah, I hope it one day goes into production at a decent cost, so more people can experience the awesome Sturzhelm effect. The Ergo AMT is too expensive for me, especially if it's true that in stock form, it has no bass.
-
What, you're not entranced by the stunning good locks brought forth by the combination of my beautiful face and the mysterious shiny square black helmet I have on my head? Yeah, being part of Team Sturzhelm ain't easy. I have a T Amp I could use to pull a NeilPeart out on the street... but I'm too lazy for something like that.

Now that I've been listening to them for a decent length of time, I'm re-reminded of why I still need to mod them. Whoever thought using some netted metal sheet and some thin foam to secure the drivers to the frame was a good idea was not very smart. I don't know what I'd replace them with, though. I guess I need to finally purchase some bitumen.
-
Psh, I go straight to the sun to break the tubes down to an atomic level and reform them, which makes getting rid of all impurities a cinch. It's time to make the predecessor to the 4070 for me... give or take 2 or 3 months. Time to PM luvdunhill for cables (much appreciated, man). Impressions whenever I find the time and motivation to get up off my ass and do some real work.
-
I have to see your head in person to believe that the Jecklins were too small for you. Damn. Speaking of which, time for their tri-monthly fire up.
-
Woah, thanks for mentioning that. I almost never check HF anymore, except when people talk about it here.

The probability of me thinking this is a facepalm moment is 100%. The probability of me thinking this is not a facepalm moment is 0%. Don't make me divide by 0.

Well-worn from the friction

It couldn't fit through that hole in the middle

Wait, so all they did for the Touch was make it faster and include a 64GB version? Which means no camera. Interesting.
-
smeggy! You know you want it... It'd work a lot better if I knew when/if the price is going back up and how much stock they have. As it stands, I will keep the tab open and my eyes peeled.
-
Yeah, I still have 2 pairs of unused 120R SFIs on top of what will be a spare set of SR-X drivers and my Lambda Pro which I'm thinking about taking the drivers out of to put in here. I wouldn't mind a having good donorphone right about now, although my wallet might.
-
Nvm, I zoomed in and they just look like cursive L's now. Cool, take pics of the insides if you can, when you get them. Could work, if they fit. I think a lot of the point of making these new large fancy ortho drivers was to be able to produce enough bass in a fully open-backed (or nearly) arrangement so as to not have to deal with backwave, but that doesn't mean they couldn't be made to sound good in these.
-
Yeah, it's a pretty blatant ripoff of the 4070 but worse looking. And much cheaper. And not an electrostat. I like how they have the little alpha symbols. Well, too bad, Stax already made an Alpha, the Alpha Pro Excellent. Thanks, bookmarked. I may have use for such a thing to house some full-blown 'stat drivers.

can somebody define for me the word transience...

What the fuck, that's priceless. The thought of refrigerating pale dildos to replicate the experience of getting boned by an imaginary glittering vampire haven't really popped into my head until now. Thanks for that. -
Radix conversions, binary arithmetic, radix and diminished radix complements, someone's mom. Edit: Had to make things more/less explicit.

Proving that they are in fact gayer than dildos. NTTAWWT. -
I'm actually using a pair of vintage Canton speakers that used to be my dad's right now... Fonum 60. One of them is literally on top of my bookshelf and the other is on a stack of books. I'm sure that doesn't help sound any.
