wat Looks kinda fugly, but not as bad as the non wood version.

How dare you taint the Stax thread with mention of Grado? It goes against my morals to buy headphones with drivers that are held in a flimsy plastic/wood frame with glue from a hot glue gun.

Nice

Woah, I didn't expect them to be so... tiny. It's kind of a wonder they're producing any bass at all. Try the foam or felt if you get the chance... certainly cheap, easy to do and quite reversible, so worst thing that can happen is your ending up with some Harbeths.

I'm not sure about the round vs slit bass port thing. I would think the cross sectional area is all that matters but I might be wrong. And bass ports aren't ever really tuned to a specific frequency, but a somewhat broad range of bass frequencies, since what is wanted is increased efficiency in the bass region as low as possible without unwanted bass peaks. Fully closing a speaker cabinet meant to be a bass reflex enclosure just seems wrong to me, but I haven't really had enough experience to judge. Sure, that'd be great if you'd set it up. I'm curious as to how much difference corner loading and bunges make. Whatever you have as a preamp is probably better than mine... I've got a vintage Kenwood Basic C1 preamp I can bring that is generally very well liked in its price-range of <$100. I originally got it for the phono preamp capability (MM and MC) and now almost never listen to vinyl.

1) Get a better amp 2) Get better headphones 3) No, markl modding your D7000 will not make them better

I guess the inner tweaker/ortho modder in me says it'd be best if you could try a couple of different options and see what you end up liking best, but you can make judgments on how much bass bloom you want to remove. The foam that would make the least difference is some thin open cell foam that isn't dense... the denser/thicker the foam, the more bass resonance you will kill but the more bass extension you may lose. Dense closed cell foam would be like completely sealing off the bass port and so would only be used for extreme cases, where the bass is overpowering and muddy as hell... generally not recommended. And apparently the proper term for them is 'foam bung'. Make sure the foam bungs snugly fit in the bass port. Seems using bungs is quite a touchy subject for audiophiles... kind of like EQ.

Yeah the KEF bookshelves my dad bought came with large chunks of foam to plug the bass ports to kill bass bloom. Definitely worth a try, and decreasing bass usually means perceived increase in treble, so it should be better balanced overall.

Which is most accurate? Which one looks best?

Ooh awesome. Interesting how I thought 3 looked the most fake due to the saturations and lack of any depth. What the artist says it should sound like usually differs from what it actually ends up sounding like by quite a bit, so even the artist doesn't completely know how things will turn out. Now that I've acquired an extremely neutral and revealing setup (CR-620 -> SR-X Mk3) I realize every recording is mastered differently, some with more/less treble, harshness, flabby bass, etc etc, and the best way to enjoy music is to have your system make as much as it can sound good. And thus is the difference between pro audio and audiophile gear. -

So that means the first one isn't the most accurate? -

Sick... then you can "talk" to anyone in the world, depending on the abilities of the translating software, and depending on your own (and their) literacy.

What are you driving your K1000 with?

How dare you insult stats The Stax mafia shall be here shortly, to rectify the issue. The K1000 is a good headphone to give 'stats up for, especially if you still have more... and in the case of HA, many more. -
I spent all of my childhood holed up in my room studying... didn't really watch TV or play games. I never played sports outside of PE class. Right now I'm trying to eat fast enough to offset my metabolism, and I still don't really play sports. Was a size 30 waist two years ago, now none of my pants fit without a belt. Edit: And I still spend all my time studying and practicing.

Wait, what happened with the 404LE? -
Happy birthday! May the electrostatic force be with you.

I'm 20 and half the things on the list apply to me I didn't get a cell phone until junior year of high school, and was on dial-up for quite awhile. Sorry to hear about being the remote. I didn't watch TV, but I wasn't made to be the remote, either.

I don't know how much Safari uses but there's something wrong when Firefox uses over 400MB for me, so I figured that meant 2GB for iTunes (and OS stuff).
