Fucking moron with computer source question......
mypasswordis replied to randerson3024's topic in Home Source Components
Yup your original point definitely still stands and makes (bit)perfect sense. I guess this just means I don't like how my DAC sounds. -
Funny you should mention that. I sincerely believe my left ear is more sensitive to lower frequencies and my right ear is more sensitive to higher frequencies. I may be going down the path of insanity or voodoo or both...

Fucking moron with computer source question......

Count me in with the douches. KS doesn't work on the Emu 0404 USB for whatever reason but I tried DS and prefer its sound to ASIO. Can anyone say lead ears. -
Yup that JFET amp. In my experience the K340 and K1000 are more efficient than properly damped orthos like his LCD1. Did you happen to try your K1000 on that amp? If it's just an issue of gain that shouldn't be a problem since that's easily changeable. Cool I'll order some plugs and maybe some jacks tonight. Which reminds me I need to buy some from Birgir too.

I think I'm just going to live with trying out Marc's JFET amp once I get it built, but much thanks for the offer. I may send you a K340 sometime in the near future though, if you're still willing to cut out the plastic screens. I can order a 4 pin XLR plug or 2 3 pins, whichever you prefer, and make a cable for you to listen balanced.

I loller'd pretty hard. Also yeah that's way too big (that's what she said).

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 1 characters.

Sorry Steve, I don't think I'd even read your reply, although I might have read it and then forgot I did. I think I just got a bit irked that I'd spent so much and then didn't really know what I was getting, but I'm very satisfied now and glad I bit the bullet. Thanks for helping me decide to get these, I can confirm our sonic tastes are very similar.

Not stupid. Congrats! Now you get to deal with all the fun things mortgage has to offer.

Heh, if you impulse bought a house on the internet, you've got to be pretty loaded.

I do hate closed, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to hear them. Also, some of them are real purdy...

Congrats on the W5000, I hope you like them. Always was curious about the AT woodies but they were and still are too expensive for me.

Yup that makes a lot of sense, and I'll definitely be sure to post my findings when I am able to compare to either a really low or really high serial number K1000. I'll try to take a pic of the light-colored box that has "AKG K1000" written in it for posterity, or just try to find the pics from the auction to post here. I've tried to search for any references to people mentioning a treble roll-off and pretty much everyone just says the treble is the best part of the K1000 and it has great extension. Weird. I don't notice roll-off with most of my other headphones so it's not my setup. They also say the K1000 is extremely resolving, detailed, transparent, fast, etc but mine is pretty average in those respects compared to my other headphones and in fact I feel like it smooths some of the details over to make sure nothing sounds harsh, so kind of Senn-like in that respect. It sounds like I'm beating it down but it's still the best headphone I own since it does everything very close to right and has no real flaws, and should improve greatly with better upstream components. Oh, and the soundstage/imaging is nice, too.

I read this as plus or minus 10. And hehehe, HiFace.

Yes, I'll definitely be interested in listening to the really early and really late production versions, just to satiate my curiosity. Very improbable I'm going to buy another pair to compare and sell the not as preferable one, though. I think I'm done with headphones, once I assemble the holy troika (see Stax thread). I have the version of box that says AKG K1000.
-
Alright, thanks. Current popular trends suggest I find a K1000 that matches my sonic tastes first, then build a system around it. I personally also think that's taking it a bit too far, but I don't doubt the possibility of AKG making drastically different sounding versions of a headphone since I experienced it firsthand with the Sextetts, and there's plenty of evidence for the K501, K340, etc. I do notice a slow roll-off in the HF, past 18.5-19kHz. I probably won't be able to hear that far up in a few years so it's all good. My box is ... wood colored. Not black.

I've been trying to figure out if mine is bass heavy or bass light and I just can't without comparing to another K1000. A lot has to do with positioning the drivers correctly, of course, but it pretty much just sounds like the frequency graph in the manual. Flat down to 50 and ~4dB down at 40Hz. I don't know how much different amps can improve this, I just have this plugged into the speaker outs of my receiver. Maybe I should try making a 1/4" adapter and plugging it into the headphone out, which is just the speaker outs with a resistor in series. Edit: Forgot to say serial number is 7k+.

Not sure what you mean by this. I always use standby or hibernate and it works fine for me. I actually shut down or restart maybe once a week.

Hm, I'm thinking about getting one of those eventually to act as a diffuse field equalizer for my Lambda Pro and maybe others if I can find the equalization graphs. Does the width function work well/sound natural? -

Does anyone here use a crossfeed plugin with foobar (or whatever else)? If so, which do you use? -
Audio Technica headphone question -- closest to leatherhead?

*makes mental note to ask you to hear VTGs next time* oceanwave, try to figure out what kind of sound you like first, then ask questions. Ie do you actually like the VTG or the HD650? Doesn't seem like it since you just seem to want to try new headphones. -
Congrats on one K1000's resurrection! Once Fitz figures out the problem on the second one and you get it back, I'd be curious to hear if you notice any differences in sound between the two. I'm betting on no difference since the serial numbers are so close, but you never know.

I think the only thing that really needs to be carried over is multitasking. Then the iPad would be quite revolutionary. Perhaps the processor can't handle excessive amounts of multitasking, or perhaps Apple just hasn't developed the software into the iPhone OS yet. The small drive space kind of sucks too, but that's where SSD is right now. Sort of.

Could you clarify on what you meant by 'technically better'? And almost every Stax is a good demo for anyone with the mistaken impression that Stax don't have bass. The same can be said about Stax headphones being extremely expensive.
