^^^ This. After numerous in computer drive failures ( all PCs at the time) I went external and never looked back. My main ripping drive is an external LG that is going on 4 years with no trouble. Has connected flawlessly to every Mac and PC I have thrown at it. Internal optical drives are so 20th century.

I have been comparing the Apple and Google Apps since IOS6 came out. Apple maps on the iPhone and Google maps on the iPad. During that time the only issue I had was the lack of a mass transit choice in Apple maps when I was in Chicago. A quick app download fixed that. No other issues so I updated the iPad to IOS6 yesterday. Sorry I waited.

With fast I/O ports, external optical drives (and storage) seems like the smarter way to go. But maybe I'm just an Apple apologist.

Probably update my iPad2 to the 4 after the holidays. Absolutely no interest in the iPad mini. Probably upgrade the 11" MBA in the summer. May go 13" rMBP, need to check it out in person first to see if the weight is acceptable.

13" rMBP makes the 13" MBA even less attractive.
