    ^^ Excellent! Ordered 4 more, so now I have 5 + 1 spare.
  3. Godspeed Heidi
  4. Happy Birthday, Dan! Hope you have a spectacular day!
  5. This! Redux
  6. Thanks Steve but the right speaker needs a 10' cable. Don't worry as Nugget Audio is on the case.
  7. Yep, but this is Head-Case after all. Seriously, I had to change the switch anyway and most of the cables were cat5 so it seemed like a good idea to just go cat6 for a little future proofing.
  8. I bought them when they had a coupon code and they were under $150 each.
  9. Thanks for the feedback guys, it has been helpful. So I finally decided on the 1512+ since it is way more than I need now by itself and when I need to expand in 2 years, I can add a 5 bay expansion unit. I'm definitely going to take my time and make sure I set everything up right. I bought a new gigabit switch that is compliant with the link aggregation capability of the NAS and will switch out all Ethernet cables to and from the switch with Cat6. Also bought a dedicated UPS for the unit. Should be plenty fast enough as my main concern is reliability and constancy of data access. Currently have 2 WD red 3Tb HDDs and have just ordered 4 more. 15 Tb should be a good start. Oh, and the 2 HDDs came from Newegg and each drive was bubble wrapped, put in its own box and then the two boxes were packed in a larger shipping box. Looked good but I have not tested them yet. Anyone have a MAC or Windows counterpart to badblocks? Not going to mess with Linux.
  10. Well I finally went up to Champaign to pick up the Airmotiv 5 speakers from FedEx. I have them hooked up suboptimally through the SE loop outs of the GSX (until I can get long enough XLR cables) and they still sound great. This is a really clear and clean sounding near field system. Really glad I did not get the 6s since they would have been pretty imposing on my desk and the 5s are plenty at this distance. They are hooked up in my office system at work. Mac mini ---optical--> Emotiva xda-1 ---XLR--> HeadAmp GSX ---RCA--> Airmotiv 5
  11. Happy Birthday Al!
  12. Happy Birthday Colin!
  13. Happy Birthday Steve!
  14. Noice! Damn, I need to get out to the range.
  15. Good point, and they're expensive. Both will eventually change hopefully.
  16. Happy Birthday Ed! Edverine!
  17. You can daisy chain.
  18. Don't sweat it Trav. Dealing with the hotel reservations was one of the most frustrating aspects of CanJam'10. What I found out was that there was very poor ommunications between the conference staff and the front desk staff. They were seperate organizational units so I basically had to act as a liaison between the two groups.
  19. All of this. I will certainly keep this thread updated.
  20. 4 nights, Thursday through Sunday. Leaving Monday.
  21. That is my impression from what I have read as well. Thanks for the link to the demo.
  22. I use that now for time machine backups now. I need a system where I can consolidate all the personal family files as well as my work files and have access to all of them from anywhere. Right now that would be a little under 4Tb of data. It will need to be pretty stable and have good fault tolerance to drive failure.
  23. I actually made cutouts of the base and sides of the 5s and 6s. The 5s are approx. the same size as the Audioengine 5 which I used until it developed static in the right channel. Also about the same size as the Quad 9Ls.
  24. I went with 5. Would have gone with 6 but they are a little big for my desk
  25. So I am tired of being a cheapskate and using limited capability storage solutions. I need to get a real NAS that will not be limited for a while. Anyone have experience with recent Synology NASs? I am looking specifically at either the DS413 or the DS412+. Any experiences positive or negative with these units or the Synology software interface would be appreciated.
