  1. Congratulations JP on a job very well done.
  2. FTFY
  3. Yep, any real idea can be taken to the extreme of ridiculousness by the lunatic fringe. Sometimes it gets tiring trying to separate the wheat from the chaff. I think I'll stop now before I use up my quota of trite phrases ...
  4. Looks like you are getting closer to using those new tubes.
  5. Totally awesome Al, that sounds like a great line-up of talent. Makes me wish I lived on the left coast.
  6. I was talking more in the general dismissal of the phenomenon not in any specific case, but point noted.
  7. Well, if nothing else, that is just fuckin' cool.
  8. I absolutely agree. However, compared to the potential variation among living organisms due to the interaction of genotypes and environment as well as the non-linearities introduced by ontogeny the variation among computers is pretty small. A lot of people dismiss individual variation as a cop out when discussing audio comparisons. I do not. OK, enough geeky science talk, back to your regularly scheduled discussion.
  9. OK, now you have to post up those mods.
  10. Isn't this just a variant of the "we all hear things different" arguement? NTTAWWT.
  11. Well I have to weigh in here as this also seems to be excessively priced for what you get. I am very happy with all of my squeezeboxes (2), transporter, boom and duet. All run just fine and there is no lag when running squeezecenter (Now Squeezebox Server 7.4 although I am still currently running 7.3.4) off of the iMac (2GB RAM all music on one NAS). I also run my home office SB3 through a Musiland SRC-10 upsampler and then into the external DAC. This to me sounds better and has the advantage of using BNC for the output to the DAC (although that is not an option right now as my Buffalo32 is still partially [mostly] in pieces). Right now the only advantage the transporter has is that it can process native 24/96 files but the SB3 cannot.
  12. FOTM! FOTM! FOTM!
  13. This sounds just like what I have been looking for. I may need to give it a listen once my main system is back to "full strength". I was not impressed with a DA-50 I had in the system for a few weeks. Was one hell of a deal but it just didn't sound good. That was a while ago and things have changed on the amplification front since then so probably time to check it out again.
  14. How does the cord on the LCD-2 compare to that on the LCD-1?
  15. You'll probably have to wait until after RMAF. I bought mine used, so likely I will not get an email, so no ban for me (at least for this).
  16. Actually I think it is your source(s). IMO esoterics sound bright and a little "brittle". It could also be the recordings. It may not just be the popular stuff either, many "audiophile" recordings sound a bit strident to me. YMMV.
  17. Yep, I thought the cable was no big deal at first, but my perceived amount of fail increases with each use.
  18. It's a pretty good movie too.
  19. The enclosures look very nice and hopefully they will sound even better than the LCD-1. The headband is definitely fugly and see some upgrade options with it. Much easier than upgrading the enclosure.
  20. I also like vigor with my vim.
  21. If you could point toward the ES9018 data sheet that would be even better.
  22. I think you should call it Pat, as it looks quite androgynous.
  23. Yep, I believe all their cables are priced individually.
  24. He's a civil servant, just wait for his break.
