  1. Congrats, but I hope you have an awesome tool collection and Mad handymanz skillz. @Dan Some of us have to use Windows because the software we use is supported only possible by because of Corporate America. And for me;
  2. But not Steve's wardrobe.
  3. Yep, totally agree, at that price I absolutely cannot see it having the I/V stage or PSU. I think if you are really clever and can scavenge parts, including a case, you could match that price with a Buffalo, but only if you consider your time worth 0 dollars. Anyway, it looks like it could be a great way to get in on the ESS DAC "bandwagon".
  4. Hope you make yourself a great birthday!
  5. It would be tough (not impossible) to build a Buffalo32 for that.
  6. Yeah, that is what I figured but it almost never hurts to ask.
  7. I use external drives with my mini and I see no advantage to internaal drives for me. They are certainly quiet enough for my office environment plus they are hella lot easier to change out when prices drop. Not sure I want the server one with the heat from two drives in there anyway. Is there an advantage to running snowy-server versus regular snow leopard?
  8. That just adds to the hero credentials. Hero's can't diss their moms.
  9. Jeff is officially my hero.
  10. x2. This was the one item Apple announced that I just needed to have immediately. QFT
  11. Well that is all well and good but unfortunately it does not answer your potential customers questions. Why should I pay 4 to 10 times as much for this device? Is it better than the cheaper products? Since I cannot do a reasonable in home test (Unless I want to pay $260 for the privilege) then at least some information could be made available. Who cares if other manufacturers don't believe your measurements. The measurements provide refutable eveidence while assertions are just that. Oh, and I refuse to take the comments of anyone who uses "scooter" in their nomiker seriously. When we used to call someone scooter, it was not a term of endearment.
  12. Hmm... personally I like to know as much about my competition as possible. It does not provide a frame of reference for how much better it is, or not, than other converters. But if you prefer I ignore the man behind the curtain I certainly have no problem with that.
  13. So after subjecting myself to the entirety of the "discussion" at head-fi I would like to know if you have the results of the above tests with other 24/96 converters? From my perspective your measurements are interesting but with no frame of reference relative to other converters they really don't mean much. Edit: Beefy you are too quick my man.
  14. Am I the only one here wondering how much of the $1299 price is cutting edge audio technology and how much is cutting edge industrial design?
  15. Have a Happy and Tubey Birthday.
  16. He is not the first that made that comment so I was just verbalizing what I think every time I read or hear that. They are making an extrapolation from a fact. It is certainly a fact that decoding a FLAC increases processor overhead. (Fact) Therefore, decoded FLAC will sound worse than Raw WAV (extrapolation). They also assume that there is no cost to using a bigger file, but that will be dependent on where it is stored as well as Bus speed. No free lunches, just lunches that are assumed free. I do not assume that would produce any audible problem unless the file was absolutely huge and the bus speed was ludicrously slow.
  17. I have a hard time believing that FLAC decoding causes significant processor overhead on a dedicated music server unless you are using this as your server.
  18. not anymore.
  19. Sometimes I'm a hot coed in my dreams, but that usually only occurs after someone tells me to go fuck myself.
  20. Happy Birthday to you good sir.
  21. The audioengine 5 definitely has a built-in ipod dock. I believe the audioengine 2 also has one but I am too lazy to check. I use the 5's in my office and every time I think I need to upgrade to better speakers I simply put on something I really like and the upgrade necessity disappears. Wish it would work for things other than speakers.
  22. premature expectation?
