  1. Actually one of the problems with the K701 is how the headphones are wired. Recabling them directly to the right and left drivers opens up the frequency extension on both ends. As stated before, they are a bitch to drive (ala K340 bitchiness) and definitely suffer in the midrange when underdriven. However, recabled and edequately powered (balanced definately helps) I consider them keepers. My pair is a fairly low serial number, so keep that in mind. I also did not notice much burn-in effect on these phones. I need to get a pair of HD800's to be absolutely sure, but my current impression is that the closest phone I have heard to the HD800 is my K701, but I think the K701 trumps it in the midrange.
  2. ^^^You forgot and
  3. As others have said, I miss all the alcohol hanging out with you crazies. It looks like you are off to a roaring start. Keep up the good work, but I fear for Florida when Mike gets there and you guys reach critical mass.
  4. No arguement here.
  5. True, but their track-record with SlimDevices is not too shabby, so there is at least some hope.
  6. heh.
  7. Good to hear. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
  8. Different kind of metal.

  10. The problem with both XP and Vista is it takes a lot of tweaking to get them to be stable and perform well on a regular basis. At least that is my take. In addition Vista does some pretty intrusive shit that also takes up a lot of CPU time and cannot be turned off, at least not easily, without causing cascading problems. On the other hand OS X is not trouble-free either.
  11. And I may go that route at my next computer replacement at work. I think a maxed out MAC Pro might make a nice little workstation.
  12. If 90% of the specialized software I use wasn't Windows only, I would be Mac-only myself. XP and Vista are maddeningly random in their performance. So far Win 7 is much better, but really too early to tell.
  13. A very Happy Birthday to you sir.
  14. Indeed, I do still have that lovely stand. I would be willing to send it off to Steve if he needed to get the measurements. I could also measure it myself as long as it does not have to be measured in Tices.
  15. Different DSP algorithms or implementations?
  16. Happy Birthday Sir
  17. Our dogs absolutely loved 'possums. They loved to play tug-of-war with them, a little messy, but good times. A little harder with one dog now but 'possum tossing is a close second. To stay on topic, I did my best impression of Clark Griswald today.
  18. A few Westy look-a-likes to be sure.
  19. Well that certainly makes sense at any size.
  20. Dinny! Small sips of the GTS. Small sips!
  21. George T. Stagg - 2009 - 141.4 Proof. Good Stuff. Edit: They had another bottle if anyone is interested ($85.59 with tax).
  22. Attended the running of the retards at my local Wal-Mart this morning.
  23. Hmmm, you know if #3 gets the boot I know this guy who might be interested in taking it off your hands. Just sayin'
  24. I'm pretty sure that text was not there when I first saw the advert. and posted the link. So looks like somebody jumped the gun. They are a fairly well established company in pro-audio but only for several diffrent external clocking devices. Nevertheless, I am not a big fan of vaporware. Anyway Dinny, I am still waiting for the Zodiac+
  25. O.K. Now drink some whisk[e]y neat. Happy Birthday.
