  1. Black Hawk Cocktail 1 1/4 oz Plymouth sloe gin 1 1/4 oz Wathan's Single Barrel Bourbon 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice Shake, double strain and add a cherry garnish
  2. Hope your hubby is feeling better soon Shelly. Congratulations on the raise Chalk-man. Jacob - Sorry about the job. But based upon the salary issue seems like it was really a non-starter anyway.
  3. Happy Birthday Crusher
  4. I was not arguing what the correct astronomical definition of winter is. I am saying that they are defining it their own way.
  5. I said depth not girth.
  6. Hmm ... does 192kHz input. That could replace the Pico DAC/Amp. Wonder if it will work with the iPad2?
  7. I had the ref7 from the loaner program for a while. Comparing it to the DACMagic, it was better in terms of dynamics and ability to maintain separation in complex passages. Was not as good as the ULN-2 at anything. These are just my impressions but to me the sound was not impressive. The size (especially depth) and weight was pretty damn impressive.
  8. Yep, it depends if you define it by when it starts or ends. My guess is they are defining it by ending date. Makes more sense given the recent information.
  9. Envious. Have fun.
  10. Happy Birthday to you sir!
  11. A Martinez Cocktail 1 1/2 oz Ransom Old Tom Gin 3/4 oz Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth Scant teaspoon Luxardo Maraschino Dash Regan's Orange Bitters Dash Boker's Bitters Stir with ice to chill and strain into a cocktail glass. Squeeze lemon peel over glass. Add a (preferably luxardo or toschi) cherry if you so desire. This is definitely a drink where the maraschino works. Also superior to the special Martini (not that it did not disappear into my digestive tract).
  12. ^^^ NICE! ^^^ Having a Martini (Special) Cocktail that Marc was so kind to remind me of earlier.
  13. Or age the rye in the barrel and then use it for beer. I think they have just the barrel for sale on their web site.
  14. The Wasmunds rye is unaged and therefore tastes very different than any aged rye. To me it actually tastes more like a tequilla.
  15. The Champagne should provide the mixing in the Seelbach. I don't really care for it though. Now a Boulevardier Cocktail 1 1/2 oz Wathan's Single Barrel Bourbon 1 oz Campari 1 oz Carpano Antica Stir well and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry Ah Paris in the springtime.
  16. When I picked up the Blackwoods I asked the shop owner and he indicated that Blackwoods had just upped its distribution a bit so it may not be that much of a longshot. BTW I like the idea of a Vesper using Genever. Now drinking a Bebbo Cocktail 1 1/2 oz Bluecoat Gin 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice 1/2 oz Agave Syrup (Called for honey but I prefer the agave syrup) 2 tsp Fresh Orange Juice Mix all ingredients in a shaker until the agave syrup (honey) dissolves, add ice, shake and double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry. Stupid name but pretty good, if a little sweet.
  17. Nice setup Mike. The built-in desk really looks good in its new function.
  18. I got it at Friar Tuck's in Champaign (Savoy).
  19. I think the Junipero would definitely make it a fairer fight. Decided to see how good the Blackwoods really is by mixing up a Vesper 3 oz Blackwoods Gin 1 oz Glacier Vodka 3/4 oz Cocchi Americano Stir briskly and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a nice lemon twist. Yep, Blackwoods is good.
  20. It was so good I made another, this time with Blackwoods Gin Wooooo .. at least in this cocktail, the Blackwoods kicks Bluecoats ass without breaking a sweat. Scotland 1 USA 0.
  21. So the Plymouth gin worked very well in the Palm Beach and Park Avenue last night. The same cannot be said for the Seventh Heaven. Plymouth is much too smooth and mild and so the drink was overwhelmed by the 1/2 oz of maraschino liquor. My suggestion is to either cut back to 1/4 oz maraschino if you are using Plymouth or other less assertive gin or just use a ballsy gin like Junipero. Anyway, tonight I am revisiting the Twentieth Century Cocktail 1 1/2 oz Bluecoat Gin 3/4 oz Cocchi Americano 1/2 oz Mary Brizard Creme de Cocoa (The recipe calls for light but all I have is dark) 3/4 oz Fresh Lemon Juice Shake and double strain into a cocktail glass. Express a lemon peel and drop in.
  22. Pre-dinner Vodkatinis with Luksusowa vodka.
  23. How is that 16 yo rye Dinny? The rendevous rye is pretty damn good.
  24. The High West Ryes are the best thing to come out of Utah Nice Ramos Gin Fizz Marc. What do you think of the Junipero overall? Decided to go with a modified Seventh heaven 3 1/2 oz Plymouth Gin 1/2 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur 1/2 oz Creme de Violette 1/2 oz Grapefruit juice Shake and double strain into a tall cocktail glass. Garnish with a mint sprig. Since this is a modified Aviation I decided to modify the good Drs. recipe by substituting half of the maraschino with Creme de Violette. Of course he does not include Creme de Violette in his Aviation recipe. The one big I find in his book.
