  1. Welcome back Al and congrats Claire. I want to change my reaction to the Bonal and Rye from yummy to fucking brilliant! If you like Manhattans you need to try this drink. I also tried a Vesper # 2 1 1/2 oz Ransom Old Tom gin 1/2 oz Germain-Robin brandy 3/4 oz Cocchi Americano Stir and pour Extremely meh Tonight a Little Italy 2 ounces rye whiskey 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth 1/2 ounce Cynar Maraschino cherry Orange zest Combine liquid ingredients in an ice-filled mixing glass and stir until cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry, then flame a wide strip of orange zest over the top. Nice and nice. The Griottines kirsch steeped cherries are much better than Luxardo. The flamed orange zest was cool and worth the singeing
  2. Absolutely.
  3. Congratulations to the US women's soccer team on perhaps the greatest comeback victory I can remember in recent history. It is gratifying to see grit, determination and raw talent win out over terrible (horrendous) refereeing and egregious diving. I only hope that the referee is not allowed to call a FIFA match for the rest of humanity's existence. And just to put the exclamation mark on it the president of the university was driving by as Karen was doing her Brandy Chastain in our driveway. It was nice of him to wave.
  4. At least my android phone doesn't die from water damage when I cry on it because it's not an iPhone.
  5. I gave up waiting for the next version in 1981.
  6. Nice. Looks like a California King Snake.
  7. A Hemingroni? I would lose the grapefruit juice, but that's just me. EDIT: I totally misread the intent of the thread. My new suggestion is NecronoDaiquiri. But I like Dinny's suggestion. Japanese Cobbler 3 ounce sake 1 ounce fresh lemon juice ½ ounce orange curaçao ¾ ounce simple syrup Shake all ingredients and strain into a large goblet, top with sweet or dry soda to taste. Garnish with a sprig of mint and fresh fruit. Courtesy of Dale DeGroff
  8. Nice Mezcal John. Let me know how you like it. Currently in the cart at Drinkupny.
  9. Per the recommendation from DOTU a Bonal and Rye 2 oz Redemption Rye 1 oz Bonal 1/2 oz Cointreau 2 dashes Regan's Orange Bitters 1 dash Angostura Bitters Orange twist garnish Yummy and the redemption rye has a nice bite.

J&R has the PogoPlug Pro on sale for $49. Been wanting to try one for a while and this seems like an easy way to try it out, even if it sucks.
  11. That is an absolutely gorgeous photo. Very nice!
  12. In honor of our man in München
  13. WAT? That could be dangerous!
  14. That aviation looks yummy. That looks and sounds like an awesome bar. It appears that The Bitter Truth guys have an entire line of liquers now. Interesting.
  15. BTW if anyone wants a bottle of Blackwoods let me know. My place had none last month but yesterday they had 5 bottles. Now 4. It's not cheap at $53 per but I think it is worth it. Ok. Have Shelly, Todd and Marc down for one. I should be able to pick them up tomorrow. We will go from there once I actually have them.
  16. Nice choices by you both, Al. Shelly, dew eeet!
  17. You do know that clothing is optional in the Englischer Garten, right?
  18. Friar Tuck's in Champaign has a good supply of the black barleywine and grand cru. this will be my first pass on the black barleywine but I really like the grand cru, and of course, the Norton Reserva.
  19. well since a Rosita Cocktail is 1 oz tequila 1 oz campari 1/2 oz dry vermouth 1/2 oz sweet vermouth how about a Dry Rosita?
  20. Well since it was originally made with Sazerac Forge et Fils cognac I prefer to think of it as melding the old and new Sazeracs but Vieux Sazerac will work. And the red hook is a definite win.
  21. Nice Shelly. Made a nice Sazerac using the traditional two glass method and my now preferred 50:50 mix of rye:cognac.
  22. Trying to keep up with the ... errr ... drinkers.
  23. Earlier today had lunch at the Sunsinger Cafe. Started with a Two Brothers Dog Days Dortmunder. Then 1/2 of a German pretzel sandwich and a cup of gazpacho. And for dessert, a caipirinha
  24. I actually like the claw better than the Bihn absolute on the gator. With the weight of the gator the Bihn strap moves and slips but the claw lives up to it's name. With the additional weight of the Sunchaser, absolute all the way.
  25. Very nice (the hotel and drinks not the crazy train ride). Make sure you send me the name of that hotel for our next Munich excursion.
