  1. I disagree with one thing strongly: L glass makes a HUGE difference. Good glass makes more of a difference than sensor, noise, post processing, etc. It is the #1 thing in making an image really pop. There's a reason why 2 lenses with the same specs, one is $200, and one is $1000.
  2. The key here seems to be your proximity to alex more than anything else. It was damaged in shipping, but you were able to drive up there to get it fixed. If he'd been in albania, he could be the best guy in the world, and it wouldn't have helped much. And shipping stuff to him to get fixed can reportedly take forever. I know todd had major problems getting his sacd player back, a few years back. The local guys have the advantage of being able to have stuff done while they wait. These small modding shops quickly become overwhelmed by their success.
  3. If I don't know any of the potential buyers, and one guy pms me saying "I need to get the money together" and the other guy has the money together, I'd tell the first guy sorry, sold. Even if I'd already sent my paypal info. As a seller, I've been dragged along by buyers enough that cash in hand is a trump card. That said, I'd sell to someone I know who will have money eventually over someone I don't know. Unless cash is short, or the other person is iffy about whether they really want it. Nothing says "I want this" like "I have a paypal cash balance, and can pay as soon as you confirm"
  4. Check out fredmiranda.com and dpreview.com for good advice on camera stuff from a much larger community of users Like headphones, there's a really deep rabbit hole for camera gear, so you should look for advice as to where the sweet spots are. For zooms, I prefer tamron over sigma, generally speaking, but every mfg has their lenses that are awesome.
  5. Damn. I have a monster head (7 3/4 hat size), and the jpns and vtgs were like buttah
  6. Isn't that always the case. Open source software is only free if your time has no value.
  7. apple aperture is better than lightroom. But doesn't run on XP And aperture is good.
  8. That's hardly a fair comparison. You're taking a high end pro full frame camera, and then taking a crop, and shrinking the result down. Of course you don't see noise. Take it the other way. Crop down to 1:1 pixels on screen at the same 3200 iso and see what your result is I'd bet that there's a lot going on to make that image look that good that the typical amateur with a 20D wouldn't be able to pull off, even with the exact same lens. (I also bet that's a pro lens).
  9. Funny, I think this is one of the best pop songs ever written.
  10. The ex dg isn't distorting, at least not with a 1.5 or greater crop camera. I loved mine, took spectacular pictures. I'm trying to dig up some shots I took with it.
  11. I really like the sigma 20mm ex dg.
  12. I almost always prefer primes. Better lenses, just decide what kind of shooting you're gonna do, and commit.
  13. F4 isn't fast enough to be a good indoor lens. You want 2.8 at a minimum.
  14. That's why you string up piano wire at 18", crisscrossing the room
  15. xin changed his focus to suit his market. More people wanted "wow", so he switched his designs towards that. The SuperMacro 3 with the right opamps sounds pretty darn good, considering.
  16. Amazon.com: ColorVision Spyder2PRO Win/Mac: Windows & Macintosh: Electronics When I was into photography, I saw the various spyder products recommended a lot.

He only bullshits when he's being paid by someone else...
  18. whatever length you'd need to sit comfortably in your normal listening position, and then an extension cable that would get you to your alternate listening position. So it's something that only you can know.
  19. nice
  20. Looks like they ripped off the natejeans cable design
  21. I've had a bunch of xin portables. I used to buy them whenever they'd show up cheap on hf, then listen for a month, and resell. I'd use them when I was between other amps, basically. Good, but not great, and I'd never wait ages for one. Better than the hornet and sr71 tho. And a great match for etys.
  22. Come on, you could come up with a scenario where the computer and stereo are 25 ft apart, but you can still hear the stereo, right?
  23. Oh, the cat liked me, it was play. he' was just damn accurate with his bites, and caught the inside of my fucking nose.
  24. Cat did stop biting me tho.
  25. No, I felt shitty for weeks.
