I flew a LOT, and all my problems were a direct result of chicago in the winter and dallas in the summer.

That's a different problem. I've had to sleep in the Chicago airport twice and Newark once because a flight from Chicago made me miss a flight another time.

My #1 rule of winter airline travel is NEVER schedule a connecting flight through chicago. At least it's extremely likely the flight departing chicago is also delayed, as every flight in chicago in winter is delayed.
