  1. this exploit puts "the adversary" in the middle of your encrypted connections (and anyone else's) if they've taken control of the network. Network sniffing is a different problem. Both are solved with a mifi.
  2. if the students are on the network you use, I'd to the opposite, and VPN home
  3. It's probably never a bad idea to change important passwords, and enable 2 factor authentication whenever you can. Do it from home or work tho... Also, 15 character passwords, mixed for anything that matters. There are lookup tables for almost anything less than that readily available in the black hat world.
  4. cool My job has me so paranoid about network activity in general...
  5. Does UC have separate real and student networks? Because I know at the university of alaska, the student network was a cesspit.
  6. it's the "afaik" that's important. You don't know. You have no way of knowing. I personally won't use a mac except on my home network at this point. Tho in all likelihood, the damage has been done, if it's going to be. That said, I'm not particularly worried about personal consequences so much as potential work consequences. I stopped using my work computer on non-work/home/mifi networks 2 years ago tho, and all traffic is vpn on it.
  7. I think it's fair to say everyone's being targeted if you get on a network that's been hacked. As to what you have to lose, well, it depends on what you use your computer for. This one isn't minor.
  8. unless sprint's network's been exploited you should be fine
  9. it's only bad if you use your mac for work, financial transactions, shopping, or email. Oh, or calendaring.
  10. yes more specifically: immediately upgrade your iphone, and stop using safari on your mac.
  11. Thanks Matt, you too!

I guess that also adds in all of the moogerfoogers with drive circuits, too. MF101, ladder filter + drive
  13. Yes, but there's nothing about Luis's background that would suggest that he could design a better closed headphone than the current manufacturers. He's a nice guy, but he's not an engineer.

  15. factor in that they sound great out of almost any headphone jack, so no amp investment necessary.

  20. I think the trick is that the older ones aren't from the Stitzel-Weller distillery, so the 17/18 are (reportedly) better than the 25. Jefferson's is from someone who buys up casks and markets them, rather than from a distiller.

today's amazon deal of the day might be relevant to you, Wayne.
  22. Just put a stax plug on the extension cable
  23. bitching about too much snow is a humble brag, from my perspective anyway.
  24. We hit the low 50s, which was plenty balmy for me.
