  8. At work, our systems are starting to move toward using laptop class processors because of the power savings. The GPU could aways be added via thunderbolt and a PCIe chassis if you need them.

  10. the quad 2.6 i7 mini seems like a reasonable little system. Dunno if it's fast enough for maths tho. I'm pretty happy with my 2008 mac pro.
