Hmm well I went back and fiddled around with the files a bit more, but I didn't come up with anything I found preferable, the current results just look better to me than something more conservative. Of course, I wouldn't sharpen people pics to the same extent, but for conveying the sleekness and precision of the Pico, I think it works.

I'm guessing your T42 isn't dual core (at least they weren't back when I was considering one). Dual core is definitely the single most effective way to increase the perceived speed of a computer these days, as it is nearly impossible to overload on doing normal tasks. Unfortunately, I don't think it would be very easy to change this without changing your laptop. Laptop HDD's are pretty slow, but a 7200 RPM drive is definitely a noticeable upgrade over a 4200. SSD's will definitely have to wait a few years until I get one, but damn if some of the benchmarks aren't tempting, eh?

They're all from a Nikon D200 with a Nikkor 35mm f/2 I received at the same time as the Pico. The lighting is from a Sunpak 522 (big old off-camera flash), bounced from a standard height white ceiling.

True for the most part. I'm still learning post-processing and sharpening is something I'm not overly confident about, I just sharpen to a point that looks good to me without pushing artifacts or looking like overkill (these are around 120/0.4/0 USM in CS2). So I'm sure that my point of view in that regard may or may not be what someone else considers correct. I did take some pics at smaller apetures, but the meager amount of extra sharpness was not worth the tradeoff for smoother, less distracting OOF areas. I'm going to compare the performance of the two for a while, including using the Pico to amp the Apogee's analog output. At this point I'm not sure if I'll keep the Apogee or not, it is more convenient for speaker use.

Perhaps, indeed. Perhaps there was no good outcome possible. But it didn't take long into that campaign before it became obvious that ol' Bushie was major trouble. Whatever. Anyway, it's either up from here, or we're all slaves to the Chinese in a decade or so.

But the point is that nearly anyone you talk to agrees that it's a shitfest (too bad more of 'em didn't see it coming 7 years ago), so push has to come to shove eventually here.

The adjustable crossover in the TOTL IEM is somewhat cool, and makes since, as much debate over IEM's comes down to "too much bass vs. too little bass." In theory now one could have their ER4S and UM2 in the same package, with the twist of a screw.

White balance issues aside, I am psyched to also recieve a bronze Pico. I've loved that finish since I first saw it on an AE-2, and it happens to mate well with the L3000.

5-8 feet of snow with hurricane force winds coming to the Sierra Nevada tomorrow. 'makes me glad I don't live at 8,000 feet anymore.

Nomadic headphones!

Indeed, the W5000 is one of the best looking headphones ever. I certainly miss it if only for the eye candy. It certainly didn't feel or smell quite as nice as the L3000 though...

Speak for yourself I almost got taken out the other day by some crazy jackass sliding his pickup across the two-lane mountain road with a wall and a cliff for curbs. All it took was two stinking inches of snow. Thank god for good brakes and new tires.

The DA100 is probably the best flavor of sound for those two phones. And it's cheaper than the DA10. And it's built quite a bit better to boot.

Yeah, narrow heads and W5000's are not the best of friends.

As a Nikon guy, I'd say be glad that you can get an F2.8 "normal" zoom that has IS. I am definitely realizing the benefits of VR, and not even on an F2.8 lens. So long as your subjects aren't moving, you'll be set.
