  1. I'll bring a telescope with me to the top of Mt Baldy and keep a critter lookout for ya
  2. Certainly! Heck, I spend more time taking pics, than listening to gear at these shindigs lately.
  3. Tell me about it! The HE60/KGSS setup packed in many zingers. The HE60 is the only headphone that's ever made me enjoy the 007t. Now if you want to talk dark, we're talking OII+007t. The OII/KGSS is very nicely balanced to my ears.
  4. As an 'SC alum, I'll be the placeholder if no "real" LA people can make it. LOL sometimes I love being right in the center of this mess we call California.
  5. It's nothing to wet your pants over. I recall it being a bit more on the warm side than any of the other ~$1k DAC's I've used. Especially for an OII rig, I wouldn't bother, considering your feelings (shared) about PS Audio. Best bang for the buck is either the Pico (if you don't mind using a tiny DAC) or a Duet (if you don't mind having to use an Apple). Best bang for the buck in a standalone DAC is the DA100.
  6. I love that O2/KGSS setup. 33-50% the cost of an HE90, and so much more listenable. Enjoy!
  7. Yeah, they are laser etched. That lettering isn't going anywhere without the panel.
  8. I think I'm definitely on team relatively minimal for the time being...certainly compared to where I used to be with a tableful of gear.
  9. Nice, now we are almost to the point that Can Jam was a Head-Case meet, with some vendors, and JUDE!
  10. I've owned/heard the DACs on the list, except the Lessloss and Cyrus, or very close relatives (as in the case of the Apogee). I'd say that NONE of them that I have experience with are what I'd call "high-end". The cheapest DAC I've heard that I'd consider "high-end" is a used EMM Labs DAC, which can sometimes go as low as $3500 on A'gon. All the DAC's listed are in the same general level of performance, which is very good, and amazing to n00bs, but not amazing. I spent a lot of time leapfrogging from one mid-level DAC to another looking for a major performace gain, but I never found anything for that kind of price which yielded such a gain, just minor tweaks here and there. I'd pick your DAC based mainly on cost, features, looks, and whatever other factors might come into play, and not worry too much about sound quality, as it won't differ in a huge way amongst those players. I'd rather you pick up a used DAC1, DA10, or whatever for $700 or less, or just keep saving up until you have $3k+ to get yourself a real serious DAC. Also the Grace M902 does not have an impressive DAC, it is bested by quite a few internal PCI soundcards, a couple costing less than $100. It's a headphone amp with a DAC tacked on. Just as the Lavry DA10 is largely a DAC with a headphone amp tacked on.
  11. I've never had a problem to shipping to various foreign countries, but I've also only done it for folks with established feedback, and I've never shipped to the middle east. I'd be pretty wary of that offer, and ask the seller if he has any other feedback, or something you can rely on, or otherwise decline.
  12. Justin's rig was pretty smokin', I can completely understand, Vicki. I would be doing just what you are now, if it were at all feasible. I can only imagine how it might have sounded with a better souce. Oh right, I can, probably something like the HE90/ES2/R2R system from MOA, without that silly Sennheiser coloration
  13. Isn't that what the other gazillion pictures from Can Jam are for? It wasn't my goal to produce basic pics of every booth/table and piece of gear. If I was the only person there taking pics, perhaps I would have in the interest of information.
  14. Those were the days....15k rpm hard drive grinding away....8000 rpm 60mm CPU fan wailing....~65% efficient power supply burning up.....FUN! Not to mention the $10 Sony headphones
  15. The 307A sounded excellent to me, driving both the RS1 and K1000 with plenty of guts to spare. I'd probably stick with an uber-B22 for the simplicity factor, but if I wanted one of the best headphone amps out there, and it had to be a tube amp, this new Millet would be one of the first to be considered.
  16. Maybe you'll find the next picture just a bit more flattering, Tyra! Tyrion and n_maher share a moment between headphones: Little Tyrion helps dad dole out the prizes (at least the ones agile_one and JP#'s don't drop!) A lucky winner receives his Singlepower Square Wave from Mikhail: The madness at full throttle: She found the gear quite enthralling: And he optimistically approached the HD650's: Philodox's rig, proud to bring you Jeff Buckley, Jeff Buckley, Jeff Buckley, and more Jeff Buckley! Grawk teeters on the edge of sleepiness: Whilst Voltron feeds the need: What synergy!
  17. The calm before the madness begins inside: It
  18. Justin after a long night of packing...
  19. Here's a few pics of the new Singlepower amp, the "Odyssey". Anyone care to speculate on the design inspiration?
  20. That's my route. Indoor stuff just doesn't really require a zoom in such a moderate range as 17-50, from what I've done so far. I'm fine zooming with my feet and changing out for a serious wide-angle or tele lens when a drastic change in perspective is called for.
  21. Whew...10 USC players drafted! I found it pretty funny that some of the NFL network guys considered JD Booty one of the dumbest QB's in the draft, such a conclusion certainly speaks to his decision to stay in the game vs. Stanford. I'll be shocked if he does that well in the NFL, as USC generally won despite him, and Leinart has been a bust for the most part, he pwned Booty at 'SC. I also found it rather amusing that Cincinnati drafted Jason Shirley from Fresno State. This guy is a serious troublemaker, kicked off the team due to his numerous arrests ranging from drunk driving to hit and run. Just what orange jumpsuits from the 'Nati needed.
  22. Who pissed in Rex's fishtank again?
  23. As climbing in the Sierra is a regular outing for me, the though of bigger and better mountains certainly crosses my mind from time to time. The real challenge to Everest is the altitude, there are more difficult mountains out there in terms of terrain, elevation gain required, weather conditions, etc. While the idea of scaling the world's highest peak is certainly appealing on a sort of rudimentary peak-bagger level, I can't see actually doing it. Aside from the expense in both time and money, I have no desire to travel to that part of the world any time remotely soon. Many consider Denali at least equally challenging. Sure, the altitude is lower, but still enough to be extremely problematic for many, and the weather can be far more volatile and deadly. I'd be ecstatic if it were the "best" mountain I was ever to scale, and is a far greater possibility than ever doing Everest.
  24. Hell yeah KG! Now you can make the most of those full-size pics! What do you have on it for a lens?
  25. Indeed, the 4070 is a mean, lean, music analysis device....and I love it!
