Yeah, the DDR3 premium is rough there. I don't disagree that it's a good price, it's just more than I'd rather spend right now. Marginal returns to the T400 over the T61 don't keep pace with the the price increase, at least for my uses, at this time.

What If I Were Looking For a Complementary HP for The 750..?
Iron_Dreamer replied to Contrastique's topic in Headphones
Way to show up the Bosies with that one! Boiling rubber poured into an orchestra pit never looked so good! -
'thanks for the message Grawk! At this point I'm hoping that the lappy I have arriving tomorrow will do the trick, but if not, it's Lenovo here I come. I'd go with the T400, but the way I'd deck it out, would end up being $1400+. When I can get a suitable, if not quite so wet-dream-worthy T61 for <$900, it's just a better investment.

What a freak! I can only imagine that he will continue lowering those records over the next few years. It's fun watching someone so tall in these events, simply due to how different his length dictates his running style must be. He's definitely the most entertaining track athlete since Michael Johnson and Carl Lewis.

Well I've used it before, and generally like most aspects of it. I have heard quite a few reports about mysterious hardware issues, which makes me wonder if a Lenovo really would be any more reliable than the other brands (the #1 appeal, in theory, to buying one). I nearly bought a nicely loaded machine in BB the other day (14.1", 2.0GHz C2D, 250GB HD, 4GB RAM, Vista 64), but I just couldn't pull the trigger. Two reasons; it was blue, and it was a Gateway. Though I've generally read that they make pretty good laptops, I just couldn't bring myself to take a flyer on a company whose name doesn't exactly resonate with quality in my mind. That, and it was a bit too tween looking.

Well then, here's a few for ya! -
Well after 3.5 years, 4 moves, 10+ headphone meets, a number of flights, and one hurricane, my trusty Fujitsu Laptop kicked the bucket recently (fried the graphics chip). Replacement incoming! I ordered this Toshiba U405 through Costco, so I have some margin for error. If this one doesn't suit me well enough, it's going back for a Lenovo T61.

How could you guys not care? I am very fascinated to see if they can make an even more awful album than what they've been doing for almost the last 20 years. The decline has been steady and linear, so I can't even imagine what this will sound like. How does Lars top the trash-can sound? By beating rocks together? And will they coin an even more moronic lyric than "frantic-tic-tock", which is might as well have been the heavy version of "mmmmbop"? See how much we have to look forward to? If nothing else, the release of a nu Metallica album is at least a chance to laugh your butt off for a few minutes solid.

The Headcase pico Lovefest: Post your impressions here

I imagine that Pico+AD2000 is a very nice combo, as they seem to have some similar traits. -

Micro Mini Meet at Eddie Current 7/18/2008
Iron_Dreamer replied to jp11801's topic in Meet Impressions
After discussing with Craig the merit of using the 307a in such a way at that last Bay Area meet, I can really see the potential there for this new BA. If it's in that ballpark with the HD2, it's a helluvan amp. And 909 isn't easily impressed -
Surprised it took you this long, ingwe! I thought for sure we would have rubbed it off onto you at the Head-Case...er Head-fi...National meet!

I'm surprised that it's taken you this long to figure out the charade that is Singlepower Audio. I can't imagine customers in almost any other arena tolerating such behavior, let alone continuing to send the man tens of thousands of dollars. I have no problem with Mikhail personally, heck, I think he is a fun guy to be around. But his business needs to be asswhipped in the worst way at this time. The sheer amount of annoyance and frustration he has caused neilvg alone over these last couple years is insane. -
You can put one item in one pocket, and one in the other. That's still infinitely more portable than any DSLR+lens, let alone with the flash. And good light makes all the difference, regardless of the camera being used.
-
Well, somewhat serious at least. Since you have a hot shoe, you can use bounce or diffused flash for times where you don't have enough light, and get nice looking shots. ISO100 is fine for flash, outdoors in good light, or for anything static if you use a tripod. You'd just be screwed trying to shoot moving objects in less than perfect light, but the AF performance of such cameras doesn't exactly tailor them for that purpose anyway. It's ironic, since I really like having that dedicated ISO dial on the G9, instead of having to go into the menus to change it like most P&S cams, yet to actually use the dial beyond the minimum setting is asking for trouble. From what I've seen the DP1, and Foveon cameras in general, just aren't very good at high ISO thus far, but that is in a comparison amongst DSLR's, not P&S cameras. Looking at the DPReview tests of the G9 and DP1, the DP1 to my eyes does much better in the noise department, with ISO800 on the DP1 looking like ISO200 on the G9. Not that it should be much of a surprise, considering the gulf in sensor sizes. Of course, the DP1 has plenty of it's own issues, not to mention price. Even with the noise issue, I'd buy a G9 before I ever bought a DP1, and with a nice external flash to boot still coming in at a lower cost. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sigmadp1/page10.asp http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canong9/page7.asp

Yeah, that's another major advantage of the G9. Just glue that ISO dial at 100
-
Hehe, I was just poking fun...either one would certainly be suitable for an amp of this caliber, a lot more so than a G08.
