Well I'm packing up now for the drive down to Ed's house tomorrow morning, before our flight early Thursday. I can't wait to get there. Good luck to the organizers, I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible for you. I spoke to Jasper994 yesterday while he was in the print shop on the holiday making sure the CanJam badges, posters, and whatnot would be done correctly and in plenty of time. Think of me when you drive past a Rudy's!

Nice work VPI, the white Porsche shot looks like a wall-hanger to me! -
Shirt is lookin' good Ed! I am so glad we ended up with a consistent theme and print with last year. If we can carry it on, it should make for an interesting collection in a few years. Nice. Edwood and I should be landing about 15 minutes earlier.

But at least you'll be on the plane to Chicago. Some haven't been so lucky.

I'll say it's going to be the 'hawks in 6.

Well, I didn't really look into it too heavily, but the couple of things I looked up were pointing that way. Anyway, that was my first proper set of hiking boots, and knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have chosen the ones I did then. But I certainly got to a lot of very enjoyable places with them, so it wasn't all bad.

Yeah, it'd probably be at least 50% the cost of replacements anyway. My understanding is that generally by the time the soles, or uppers are pretty thrashed, the all-important midsole has been toast for quite a while. The last 15-mile hike I did, they were getting pretty uncomfortable, so I knew their time had come. I probably got 350 miles or so out of that pair, not too bad for traversing a lot of unforgiving igneous.

Time for some new hiking boots, my last pair having bowed down to the rubber-eating granite gods:

Yes indeed! How many more locations do we have before potentially getting into reruns? DC, Boston, Dallas, Seattle, NC, perhaps Toronto? Oh yeah, that has been on my radar and to-do list from the very start!

All I know is that M4 certainly has my respect. It's a bitch to sharpen, but it hell if it doesn't outperform all my S30v and D2 blades in terms of holding a really nice edge with no maintenance.

Yes, very nice to have JHA @ d-_-b

Yeah, any possible criticisms of the lens are leveled by its' low price. Sure, the f/1.4 options have better performance below f/2.8, and nicer bokeh, but they are ~3x as expensive. Not to mention much larger; the 50 1.8 is a just a touch bigger than a pancake lens. My preferred stealth FX kit is this lens plus the Sigma 15mm fisheye. -
Maybe mine just shrunk more than yours, Dave.
-
So then, shouldn't you be getting on that boat pretty soon?
-
I did. I normally wear a large, but the funky sizing of these shirts make it tighter than I would prefer (based on the shirt from CJ'09, from the same supplier).
-
Yeah, at some point. I've got the kit that goes up to 1000 grit. It gives a nice mirror finish to the edge bevel, but not so finely that the scratches are completely invisible.

RIP RJD I just finished Rising, moving on to (the original) Heaven and Hell, to follow up with Holy Diver.

I have for the last couple of years. I can't say anything negative about the experience. However, it was for non-overly-critical use with my pair of rather ordinary powered studio monitors, so I'm not sure that I have any sort of confidence-inspiring detailed and/or analytical comments to add.
-
I'll give you that. But I can't argue with the results
-
Not to say that I couldn't bring the Edge Pro though
-
It wouldn't have been the same without you Reks! Glad to see that cooler heads prevailed.
-
Shoot, well at least we made the most of it while it was there!

I don't think I was. Isn't tongue-in-cheek kinda the offical m.o. around here? With everyone going on about ISO ratings, I thought I'd poke a little fun by with a couple of relatively mediocre pictures only remarkable in their lack of noise at extreme ISO. The D700S, should it ever show up, would be great. I am amazed every time I look at high ISO D3S files. It just really makes you wonder where things will be in ten years (considering that DSLR's were essentially a new item on the market ten years ago. You and ASR need to have a stead-hand shootout. I always chuckle when I stroll by him at a meet, and hear how ridiculously long his shutter speeds often are, handheld. -
Hope you had a great brithday Ari! See you in Chi-town!

Help Putting Together a Fanless PC
Iron_Dreamer replied to dsavitsk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
The fan in the Corsair 400CX is definitely not the quietest in the 120mm PSU realm, but far from the worst. The Corsair HX models, and the Seasonic S12-II's are a bit quieter, though still not quiet enough for me. I've always done a fan swap to an S-Flex "F" in my Corsair and Seasonic PSU's. Since they use traditional voltage van speed control, rather than PWM, it works perfectly. The Seasonic X650 is silent (no fan spinning) unless your system draws over 200-250w continuously, and the fan is very quiet even when it kicks in. This, and its' 750w big brother, are the best PSU's on the market right now for those of us who want quiet and efficient, but it'll cost ya, about $160.
