Yes, LR3 and CS5 both use Camera Raw 6, so their development processes are essentially the same, until you open the image up into photoshop. I tried using Adobe's Lens Profile Creator for a couple of my more obscure 3rd-party lenses today. Even just using rudimentary 8.5x11" test charts, the results for distortion and vignetting correction were very impressive. The CA correction wasn't quite perfect, but I was making my profiles in about the most quick and dirty method possible, so I can forgive that. With a little more effort (using full-size charts, profiling more apertures, and getting more precise framing via live view) this should be just about the perfect lens correction solution. Since they are DIY corrections, I suppose I could even create custom profiles for lenses which vignette when used with a CPL filter. -
Glad to see you didn't delete all the shots I took while putzing about with, err...safeguarding your camera!

Were you using RAW in your NR comparison? My comments about CS5 only pertain to how it handles the noise in RAW files. I haven't used DFine ever, or NN in a very long time, so I don't really know how they compare at any rate. I guess I just like how much CS5 has improved their NR system, which gives me better results than I got in CS4 without having to add to my workflow. -

If the lighting is super yellow/red, like the hotel bar in Chicago, "correct" WB will bring out a shitload of blue noise. That's just a fact of life. One thing you can try, is changing the WB while the shot is in B/W mode (I have done this in Adobe Camera Raw, not sure exactly how it would be done otherwise). It can greatly change the noise profile of the shot, if B/W is the look you are going for. If color, you either have to suck it up, accept the blue noise, and blast away with chroma NR, or let the WB look a bit more "natural" and a bit less corrected to proper. Definitely run some RAW files through CS5 ACR. Once you get used to it, it should definitely upgrade your camera's performance. I know it did for me. I have a bunch of compact camera RAW files from years ago that now look much better. -
That makes two of us! Good working Reks. If only I could be as inconspicuous Now where are Duggeh's pictures?

Yeah, bleh location, unless you actually like maze traffic I might be coerced into driving in for it, depending on what sort of a group we can muster.

Hmmm...I can see how that might not look so good at full rez, esp. in color, if that was all the detail left after resizing. Was the exposure pretty much spot on, or did you do any post kanoodling? I remember using noise ninja a bit years ago, but I was never that blown away with it. Have you tried LR3/CS5? The NR system is so superb, at least for removing color noise. I don't mind just letting the luma noise be, as luma NR usually looks worse that luma noise, to me at least. -

Yep, run Spybot and/or Malwarebytes in safe mode, might as well run an Avira scan as well while you're at it. Keep re-running the scans until they show up as clean. Reboot the system, and re-run the scans again to confirm that they are clean. If you can't keep the crap from re-generating, it's time to reinstall. But at least Win7 reinstalls much faster than XP or Vista, and no service packs to deal with. -
Well, I had to play it pretty loud to get over some room noise where I was demoing it, and it seemed to handle it with aplomb. I doubt I was pushing that high of an SPL though. I typically listen at 70-75dB, and this felt more like 85.

Damn you, Ed, we'll be going back in a few weeks

They reminded me a lot of 5 guys fries, but with a more unctuous and well, meaty flavor. It was a subtle favor, not overpowering, and the texture was superb. Ed liked them so much, he gathered up everyone's leftover fries, and munched them all the way back to the hotel, before handing Grahame and I a pile of crunchy last tidbits. Leftover leftovers, yum! We definitely missed you in Chicago, Dave. If you do ever make it out that way, don't forget to bring someone to pass the time standing in line with. A Sigma 150mm Macro. Most definitely glad it worked out for you. I had been anticipating it for months, and was still blown away by the tastes.

Much better this time, Al! I totally spaced on getting the pic for LFF, once the food came, my focus became singular.
-
I am not seeing Al's pics either.

That is precisely why you need to get your butt to the next one pronto. You need to catch up. Come hell or high water, we're getting you on that plane to SF for Al's next meet. They are digital, same camera as all the rest, processed in PS CS5. I didn't use any snazzy plugins, just basic curves/levels/color mixer. That's what I get for staying up too late after a long day just trying to get these pictures done and posted. Here is the picture that should be there (and will on HF, once I get around to posting there, which is now a huge PITA, since you can't just copy/paste image links used here):

After the bodies were cleared from Saturday night, the rigs fired up to play another day: Not even errant moisture was enough to keep the T2 down: JP#'s puts the LCD2 through its' paces: The HE5 was only one in a strong field of orthodynamics (none could compare with Duggeh's, of course): The Scot himself, taking in clips from Dark Knight in Smyth SVS-encoded surround sound: Across the room, a K702 waited for listeners: Elsewhere, the new Beyer headphone endured a chilly response: And Tyll kept himself busy all day, measuring every headphone possible: Meanwhile, KG and Justin settled a friendly wager...: ...with our northern friend never far away: The masses began to gather... ...and before you knew it, raffle time, again! One member wins a prize that should comfort him during the recovery from his inevitable liver transplant: And the wins only became more ironic as Ari's number was called: Then Shure gave out their big prize: And who else, but the raffle king, came away on top again!
-
Matt from Shure headed out...: ...just as the band came in to play: Later, Brittany and her crew found the bar...: ...while Tyll took Jerry for a wild trip...: ...and Doug from Westone joined the scene.

And so Saturday began at the JH Audio booth: The JH3A, about the size of a typical large portable amp (PR3, SR71, etc.): Edwood and Brittany Harvey actively discuss the JH3A: We presented Vicki with her one-of-a-kind t-shirt...: Just before Jerry swooped in to work his magic on her and Ryan: The beautiful graphics on the IEM of one JHA roadie: Duggeh contemplates selling a limb for the new JHA system: ALO, and their mis-wired LCD2 shared the room: While across the hall Justin put up Headamp's most impressive spread of gear yet...: Right next to Feng and his ever-growing list of audio creations: Downstairs, Ari's amp kept one half of the room warm...: ...While more pizza took care of the other half: Others clustered in the halls...: ...And at the registration desk: With the day passing quickly, a group organized to storm Hot Dougs', but not before a stop at the ice cream truck...: ...for a taste of everyone's favorite! This one's for Beeeeeeeleeeeeey! The line progressed slowly... ...but surely... ...and we finally crossed through the doors... ....and to Doug himself: Seemingly before we could sit down, we were overrun with encased meats: and duck fat fries: Al loves a good sausagefest: and so does Ed: Bloated and sleepy, we loaded back into the cars, and just made it back in time for the raffle...: ...where Ryan held court: ...and Brian did the heavy lifting: ...and KG kept a watchful eye on the roomful of misfits: Birgir, come on down! Bozebuttons files away another prize... ...while Absorbine prepares to hand out another: Shelley wins... ...and wins again! Ironbut waits patiently for his prize: Boomana could not muster such restraint, for her most convenient win:

Massive buttloads of pics to follow, first, a few more from Friday that eluded my late-night laptop editing session that day:

Yeah, well you don what you can, right? Or do we need to make it mandatory to arive by Thursday evening for all future major Head-Case meets?

See! Proof that I did not make up the story about where Al took his nap. Despite my liberal use of the red vodka bottlee, I managed to retain accurate records of the even...errrrr....morning.

Well, I have never had issues with foobar and EAC, both free. Foobar works great batch encoding hundreds of files on four threads simultaneously with a core 2 quad.
