  1. Happy Birthday Posty!
  2. On my way to work yesterday, I passed by a guy smoking a cigar whilst riding his road bike down the boulevard...that was a pretty funny site at 7am.
  3. Went out as far as I reasonably could last night, trying to catch a glimpse of the Perseids, and while we did see some nice activity, despite liberal intervalometer usage, I wasn't able to capture any of it in photos. However, I did come away with this fun play on light pollution, after the moon had set: Artificial Sunrise

    Top Gear

Yeah, and we thought the mortgage-CDO-backed-overbuilding scam here in the US was bad!!
  5. Finally got myself a bike today! Canondale Quick SL-2, and I'm loving it. I don't know how I haven't had a bike in over five years, but tonight's ride was as much fun as I've had in a long time! 7 miles down to the beach, and it felt like a breeze! Now, to find a mount for my Garmin Orgeon GPS
  6. Happy Birthday, Greg! Still gotta come see you this summer!
  7. I'm so good at that, it's not even funny. I think I've had it up over 30lbs, with a complete load of lenses, camera, flash, accessories, laptop, and portable music system Granted, that's the air-travel "no-way-in-hell-I'm-checking-THIS-bag" configuration
  8. Congratulations! Wishing you all the best!
  9. I'm not sure I see the point of using a large, heavy, limited range full-frame lens as a walkaround lens on a crop camera. I'd follow Jeff's lead, and get a nice, fast aperture prime at a focal length you use frequently and enjoy, to give you a different option from your existing zooms. Oh, and I've been using the UD35 for years, and really like it, though if you fill it to or near "capacity", it's a heavy beast for one shoulder, even with a Bihn Absolute strap. I like it for carting my gear around on trips, but if I'm going to be walking more than a few miles, the gear just ends up in an internal frame hiking pack.
  10. Happy Birthday Scott!
  11. Happy Birthday, Sheriff Justin!
  12. I thought you might like that!
  13. The "bacon chocolate crunch bar" from Animal here in LA. It was quite blissful:
  14. Is this where I get summarily punished for encouraging Larry's earliest efforts?
  15. Have a very biscuit-happy birthday ol' Brent!
  16. Econ minus algebra, yeah that would be kinda rough. At least it wasn't the kind of econ class you'd have needed calculus for.
  17. Bummer, Jacob! What sort of econ class was it?
  18. I just ordered a Verzion S4 for my girlfriend last night. She'd been making do with an original Droid X, so this should be quite the monumental improvement! I generally like the feel of the devices in their naked state. I do always store my phone in a belt case when not in use. However, it's naked all the way in actual use, and yes both my former Thunderbolt and current G-Nex have taken a few knocks, but never anything that caused any sort of serious damage. I'll keep taking the risk, and enjoying the phones as they were intended to be handled.
  19. YAY!!! Honda-McLaren? Now that makes for some good nostalgia!
  20. Have a very happy birthday, Chris!
  21. Happy birthday and happy shooting to brother in Nikon, Ari! May the world deliver you the opportunity for an amazing shot tonight!
  22. Carl, Edwood and I have been using the cases from this supplier for years: http://stores.ebay.com/EASECASE/Galaxy-S4-i9500-/_i.html?_fsub=8019064018&_sid=149381558&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 They are really nicely made, custom made to your order (you can request holes for charging, or any other customizations). It takes a few weeks to receive the case, but it's worth it. They're fairly indestructible. I've gotten one for my last two phones, and been very pleased with both.
  23. I've not used a Vari-ND filter, mostly just because I've not wanted to shell out for how expensive they are. The ones I've seen do seem pretty thick, so vignetting might be an issue on wide-angle lenses. I don't think that there's a variable filter that can get up to 10 stops (though perhaps I'm wrong, it's not something I've looked at much at all in a while).
  24. Interesting idea, don't know why I hadn't thought of it before. I can certainly see the benefit for certain types of shooting, where it's easy to overcook the long exposure effect. Of course, I've just about always got a CPL, 4-stop, and 10-stop ND's with me, just in case it's better off being done in-camera.
  25. Definitely the or what. That lens, the older, non-os version is definitely a favorite of mine. One of the last lenses I'd ever get rid of.
