  1. 6 tubes runs it at ~$120 for just the sockets? But so long as nothing else in the amp is too exotic, it would seem pretty reasonable to me.
  2. You can do it Kevin! As 'bad' as the Exstata is seen around here, it was very compact. I would love to see another compact alternative.
  3. He is saying similarities to the 323 are coincidental.

    Barware

Bottle, glass, mouth. Glass optional. With respect to a helpful answer, I got nothing.
  5. The screen is going to be gorgeous. I really expected more updates to the software though, considering how awesome Windows 8 is looking for tablet usage.
  6. Excellent article. The 'spectrophiles' argument is something I hadn't considered before.
  7. In this day and age where even DVD players have Netflix capability, and Steam is becoming a ubiquitous delivery platform, it is entirely feasible that a 'Steam Box' could be used for accessing many different types of content. Lite games plus media on one box would be great for the mainstream, IF they can keep it under the Xbox/Playstation alternatives.
  8. Yep, 1x 4Gb stick is the best option as noted above. I don't think you can go lower than that with the T*20 in the Lenovo store.
  9. Indeed. The second RAM slot is easily accessible under the laptop. You don't want to have to change anything out of the first RAM slot though, which is under the keyboard and requires some effort to get to.
  10. Aftermarket RAM will save you a LOT of money. Start with 1x 4Gb, then just pop in a second 4Gb stick.
  11. Typing this on a Thinkpad T420 right now. It is very solid, and it handles docking and undocking with or without an external screen very gracefully.
  12. At the very least, safety first. You should not be able to touch 'high' voltage, high current pins, which you can do with male panel connectors.
  13. I like the gain options. Super high, and Stupidly super high.
  14. I've met several Faculty Deans and two VP's during my postdoc. Meeting the University President next week. Being involved in campus 'politics' is a great way to meet high-up people - even if they completely ignore you. Crappy, before you contact anybody else, you should make *absolutely* sure that you haven't broken any rules. Check and recheck the calendar, the course requirements, university legislation etc. to make sure that this course doesn't have any specific laws. You don't want to inadvertently end up wasting the Dean's time. And even if you haven't done anything wrong, tread carefully, and don't hit things too hard. The extra marks you may gain might not be worth all the people you are going to piss off.
  15. No need to go that far, just avoiding Acer should do the trick
  16. I am a pretty open minded guy, different strokes for different folks, whatever floats your boat and all that....... But seriously....... how can gay men not love the boobies?!?
  17. I am a fan of 'approached statistical significance' for p=0.05-0.10, then discussing it as if it was significant anyway. * What is the status of DIY products for USB at 24/192? I was following a few projects, but got busy.....
  18. Whether it is right or not, physiology universally uses significance at p<0.05. Anything just above 0.05 is usually fixed with more 'n'.
  19. Pretty standard biomedical stuff. Cells with a couple of different treatments, results measured for several parameters and compared to each other. Usually just a bog standard 1-way ANOVA, Dunnett post tests if we have a specific control in mind, Bonferroni if we don't. I can't see how Bayesian statistics could even remotely be applicable to experiments like this, but then again, I hate stats. My own personal statistical test is: does it stand out like dogs balls? p=yes/no.
  20. I'll give you my p<0.05 ANOVA when you take it from my cold, dead hands.
  21. Indeed. Even if I had the cash there is no way in hell that I would buy something so old, and so difficult to fix or replace. And lets say you absolutely love them - what sort of lifespan are you going to get out of them for the investment? For that money I would stick with new production.
  22. Oh, analogue side certainly. Indeed.
  23. And be careful of the turn-off thump.
  24. This looks like a Buffalo 2, not the newer Buffalo 3 that comes with the Tridents by default. But in regards to different power supplies on the digital side making that much difference...... I seem to have misplaced my massive rolleyes smiley, but I'm sure you get the idea.
  25. That's awesome. Love the idea of building a Mini3 right in
