  1. No good. The β22 needs a dual rail +/- power supply. The one you have linked is single rail + only. Really, the σ22 is the best option for powering a β22.
  2. Bed I could deal with. Where you don't want to see him is in the car. I used to live in an area where there are lots of 'huntsman spiders'. Dropping your sun visor at 110kmh on the freeway, and having one of these happy little fellows just a few inches from your face then falling on your lap...... not something I want to re-live. I'm glad you did
  3. Great stuff! I kept expecting him to leap towards the camera Is he an actual pet, or just something that you found in your backyard?
  4. What n_maher said. The Buffalo module itself can take SPDIF, PCM and DSD, and you can use any number of receivers, converters etc. to feed those signals. It outputs balanced audio natively, but needs an active I/V stage to achieve its full potential. The IVY that Twisted Pear supply does I/V and also balanced to unbalanced conversion, and can output both simultaneously.
  5. The front switch is for controlling the OTTO. Power is only switched from the IEC unit. Also, I didn't cut the hole for the IEC.... my lady friend works in an engineering department, and a hole like that costs me just two beers in their workshop Everything else I did myself with a Unibit. I would have gone with black connectors, but couldn't get them locally
  6. This is mostly a cross post from Head-Fi...... but hopefully there are enough interested Head-Casers that won't see that, that this post won't make you all crack the shits I know that a whole heap of Buffalo boards were shipped over the weekend, and surely other Head-Casers got in on the act for this batch. I'm keen to show off the progress on my all-but-finished casework prior to the arrival of my gear, as well as hear back from what others are doing with their builds...... I went with the Buffalo, IVY and power supplies combo and I also bought an additional LCDPS to power all the accessories and LEDs. Key accessories are a TOSLINK module and an OTTO which will perform SPDIF switching. The OTTO will be controlled by a Bulgin latched switch on the front panel. The LEDs on the front panel will also be switched by the OTTO. Power comes in and is DPDT switched at the back by an all-in-one filtered and double fused IEC receptacle. The two transformers are 15VA 2x0-15V that are currently putting out 18.1 VAC unloaded. RCA jacks are from Neutrik, XLR connectors are from Amphenol. The case is a 1U rack mount from Altronics. The front and rear panels are aluminium, and the sides and base are very tough steel... drilling the base has been a very steep learning curve! The case feet are from Jaycar. Some pics: So speak up, Head-Case Buffalo builders...... let us all know what you've been up to!
  7. As soon as I receive it and it is built/assembled/functional, I will definitely report back
  8. Well this thread has somewhat moved on, and it is quite apparent that nobody here cares what I say regardless, but I've just got word from Brian that my Buffalo DAC is shipping today or tomorrow. I did volunteer to give up my 2 LCDPS, but should be able to get the DAC happening without them for the time being. The delay will also give me more time to finalise the casework......
  9. Funny you should say that....... I just got an email from Brian saying that he has oversold the LCDPS and needs volunteers to receive their Buffalo orders without them - in exchange for a couple of freebies. So yeah, it seems to be a bit of a shambles but I can forgive that for two guys doing it in their spare time. I just hope the wait is worth it.
  10. There is no way that I am a professional...... but the BOM for my own Buffalo/IVY build is coming out at ~US$700 including case, XLR/RCA outputs, teflon SPC wire, transformers, extra LCDPS, OTTO, TOSLINK module, switches and LEDs. You could easily substitute in the USB receiver for the TOSLINK module and come out not much worse off on parts alone. Though the price to get someone to build it for you, I can only guess! And availability is enough of a problem to make it unfeasible. I did get in before the orders closed on the second batch, but I don't think I was fast enough to actually get allocated one. It may be months
  11. Holy shitburgers, that amp is a shocker! It boggles my mind how Singlepower has stayed in the game this long - regardless of how good the amps actually sound.
  12. A lot of scientific software is incompatible as well
  13. Ouch indeed! Perhaps the dam has finally burst?
  14. ^ x4 I'm still an audio noob, but there is no way I would compromise on anything for power conditioners, power cables or exotic/boutique interconnects or speaker cables. IMHO, all of these accessory things can be managed with very solid but inexpensive options, which will give very good performance per $$$, and beyond which you get very diminishing returns.
  15. I've been playing this whilst pretending to be working N: Inadvertently Homicidal Robots, Evasive Ninjas and A Whole Whack of Style - guaranteed to keep you busy for days. Never liked those find-the-URL games......
  16. Room acoustics, absolutely. Power conditioners, perhaps. But for equipment 'health' during surges and brownouts, NOT sound quality. Power cables, not a freakin chance. MAYBE if I had a power conditioner, and MAYBE if I won the lottery.......
  17. Would hand 'winding' give me a 'stiff' transformer? Because I showed a picture of my t-shirt to my cousin and he wanted more 'stiff'. He also said something about Blacks give more stiff.
  18. I wonder if there are huge differences in looks if the gilmore t-shirt is modified with better parts. maybe better resistors, caps, and a hand wound power supply???
  19. I understand that you can actually get really good performance from a modded unit...... but I can't help but think that it is analogous to putting Type R stickers and a Milo tin exhaust on a Civic. If it were me dropping 6 grand on an amp, I would absolutely buy something that is top-shelf to start with and not screw with it.
  20. I think that there was a deleted post in there........ quite the potty mouth from memory.
  21. Collectively, you folks have the fucking best collection of intraweblog phunnies I've ever seen
  22. Absolutely. Functional and imposing. In comparison, the B52 is just covered in stupid bling - LEDs everywhere, seemingly pointless panels with gold screws, huge farken knobs and logos...... it wouldn't look out of place next to a Hello Kitty lunchbox.
  23. Oh crap, I need a towel.......
  24. Just a flipside to this....... I always feel MUCH better when something I buy sounds/performs/tastes good, but I know I haven't wasted money on useless crap that offers no tangible/measurable improvement.
  25. Amongst all the stuff I am unable to read, there is a photo of a WM8740 DAC and Oscon caps...... so at the very least, it has some potential. Anandtech are the exception that proves the rule. Very good computer hardware site, and their gadget/audio/camera sections are constantly improving.
