  1. I actually took the photo before they were properly tightened, so everything is now all lined up. Obsessive compulsive for the win! But I managed to snap the head off the Toslink module...... it is going to be fun drilling a steel screw out of the plastic housing
  2. ....... I was thinking more for cabling, but yes, I suppose it works for 'that' as well......
  3. I actually prefer front mount for the back panels. Makes it easier to see where you are trying to stick things when looking from above.
  4. Panels arrived today, and all my measurements were good. I'm abso-freaking-lutely thrilled with how they turned out!
  5. 100% pure WIN
  6. And for IEM's, certainly not at the expense of going backwards with the volume control.
  7. And not only do they claim balanced input, but the pot looks like it is a two-fer. Oooooh, and it looks like a 3.5mm mini for each channel
  8. Ego then? I can't see it being altruistic......
  9. Re-reading that thread...... does anybody else get the impression that Ray has a financial stake in those connectors? He seems to be pushing awfully hard towards making them a standard.
  10. Well there hasn't been any snow for a couple of days, but my first time walking home from the pub in -20C wind chill was an experience and a half......
  11. That was exactly my first thought. Why not just use a TRRS plug and jack? But then I was concerned about what would happen if someone tried to plug in regular phones, though...... ...... if that can be done, its a great solution.
  12. Well the input impedance of PC soundcards can be as low as 1500 ohms according to one reference I found. You can't expect a line level output to drive that effectively, particularly if it has output coupling capacitors. So the headphone output will certainly give a better result into that sort of load. But increase the input impedance up to levels of typical amps, which is 10kohms and higher, the line level will start performing much better.
  13. Depends what is meant by 'no load'. The situation might be very different feeding different input impedances.
  14. I can't think of a way to physically wear more clothes when outside, yet still feel so very, very cold. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.......?
  15. Alright, updated forecast...... up to 10cm of ice pellets tonight, before rain tomorrow
  16. In Halifax we've got snow forecast tonight, heavy rain tomorrow, then a whole week of sub-zero temperatures. Going to have black ice everywhere
  17. I'd love to fill in his form, just to complain about the form, on the form.
  18. Heh, I wish. My discretionary spending is now officially exhausted well into next year
  19. My biggest Mouser order to date...... all the parts for an E24, Exstata SS, Gamma2 and extra bits for Marc's volume control. Also bought E24 and Gamma2 boards and Stax jacks. Should hopefully keep me busy over the Xmas break and into the Canadian winter
  20. Took a walk with the camera to take some photos of the: The snow was still falling so the shots are very rushed, but I'm happy with how they turned out
  21. Exstata SS board set, and a custom transformer from SumR to power them
  22. The distributor in Australia has just slashed prices, so something is going on. Perhaps there is finally some benefit from the Logitech takeover? Clearing old stock for new models?
  23. Sounds like a ground loop.
  24. Well it would make the sound more fluid.
