  1. Alright, let me explain it slowly...... You come across as an arrogant, cocksure individual. Your opinions on the burn in on the GS100 started with assumption and hope. You subsequently 'confirm' these assumptions based on a skill in which you have extreme faith - and you react rather violently when this skill is challenged. So ask yourself this honestly...... what ongoing training/skill building/self assessment do you do to keep yourself sharp? Are you absolutely sure that you can overcome any preconceptions you have that challenge what you hear?
  2. When you rely solely on your training and reputation, rather than critically self-examining your own skills and opinions, it only leads to mediocrity.
  3. Hello? You don't see the confirmation bias problem here?
  4. But you managed to listen to the GS1000, which you say yourself sounded like shite, for 400+ hrs? Holy crap, that's a big logic fail right there. Find something new that you like, AND gets the job done!
  5. Oh, I certainly don't expect a schematic nor have any desire to reverse engineer. But being a hack DIY'er I am keen to learn...... thus I'm guessing that what I thought was voltage regulator ICs are actually the pass MOSFETs of a discrete regulator?
  6. Mismatched modules, ie 2Gb and 4Gb can have the same effect, depending on the chipset, and the effects it has depends on the applications you are running. But as MPI says, see if you are paging to disk first. If you aren't, you don't need MOAR RAMZ - that's all I'm saying
  7. Depending on the chipset, it can be a halving of bandwidth to install a third module to drop back to single channel addressing. So depending on the software you are using at the time, it can be significant.
  8. Welcome! Saw the internal photos on Head-Fi...... looks like you have dual LM3** (or fixed?) regulators for the power supply, a pair of paralleled MOSFETs at the output of each channel, and a handful of JFETs or BJTs in between. Anything I've missed or got wrong? Looks really great for the price point. I suspect it will be far better than the OPAMP+BUF634 of something like the Corda Swing.
  9. Depending on the chipset on the motherboard, more memory may actually result in lower performance. Having three modules installed from 6Gb may prevent it from running in dual channel mode.
  10. Ouch! My sensibilities!

Thanks folks, I might take the plunge. Going to Win7-64 is a good excuse to get that 4Gb RAM upgrade I've been hankering for as well

My email address is valid, but while my status is similar to that of a grad student I am not technically a student, and cannot provide proof of enrollment if requested. Wonder what the chances are that they will check......?

Post doctoral fellow, which does inherently require frugality.
  14. Here it is: Capacitors, Resistors, Connectors, LED, Varistors from WIMA, AOP, PIHER, NEMCO, FISHER, CAPAX, ARCO, SAURO, SFI Ah, too slow!
  15. Is it the 505-M10.1/1000/10? That is the part that the Exstata uses in its bias supply, that they got from a distributor other than Mouser. Let me have a search for you......

Oh man, I wonder if PDF's qualify? I work at a valid institution in Canada, but while PDF's are not employees, we're not technically students either......
  17. Just double check that it is rated for the high voltage......
  18. Yeah, football is an odd game in that it is more fun to watch at the non-professional level. It is at its best in little village vs village rivalry games...... more physical contact, more aggressive offence, at least one big punch up, and if the ref doesn't go home in fear for his life it would be disappointing.
  19. I've always thought that attitude pretty funny coming from a country so fond of baseball...... But then again, nobody beats cricket in this respect. Five day games that frequently end in a draw!
  20. I'm going to start a campaign to have platinum renamed to platinium.
  21. Nuh-uh. Soccer came from informal slang of Association Football.
  22. Doesn't really help your existing problem..... but a virus scanner is something that I no longer rely on free versions for. Kaspersky Internet Security has served me and family/friend computers I oversee very well for the past few years.
  23. Beef over here isn't too bad. But the lamb is awful, and very expensive. I miss lamb
